Stephanie McMahon Announces Major New WWE Streaming Deal

That’s what matters most. WWE does a lot of things and has their hands in a lot of industries around the entertainment world. At the end of the day though, they are a wrestling company and what matters most is getting as many eyes as possible on the product. That makes one of their latest announcements all the better, as more people will be able to view WWE programming.
WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon has announced that the company has reached a new streaming deal with the Foxtel Group in Australia, resulting in BINGE being the new streaming partner for WWE in the country. According to a press release, the service will offer a 24/7 streaming channel, all major WWE television shows and other events at no extra cost.
Opinion: This is something that seems run of the mill for WWE but it also shows you just how big the company is. Getting a new deal with a company big enough to go all over Australia is a major deal and for WWE it feels like something so normal. It brings in more money to WWE..

Goldberg Offers Huge Update On His WWE Status And Future

He’s not next? There have been a lot of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and some of them have made quite the impact. Those are the names that you do not see very often and as a result, the biggest stars are often going to be the most remembered. Now one of those stars has revealed that he might not be wrestling again anytime soon due to a contract situation.
WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg appeared on this week’s edition of the Bump and revealed that he has no matches left on his current WWE contract. Goldberg however did say that he owed Roman Reigns a receipt for Reigns choking him out in Saudi Arabia. Goldberg’s last match took place at Elimination Chamber in February. There is no word on when or if he will return to the ring.
Opinion: While one of the common responses to something like this is a sigh of relief at no more Goldberg, there is certainly a place for Goldberg in WWE. It would be great to have him show up to run over some loudmouthed heel or as a special enforcer or surpr..

REVIEW: Royal Rumble 2008: The Shock Factor

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Royal Rumble 2008
Date: January 27, 2008
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York City New York
Attendance: 20,798
Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole Jonathan Coachman, Joey Styles, Tazz
I believe this is my fifth time reviewing this show but I’m always curious to see how much different it feels having recently watched the TV leading up to it. The show has been set for a long time now and that means we need to get on with the pay per view already. Of course there is the Royal Rumble, but the Raw W..

Sasha Banks Changes Twitter Handle; No Longer Includes WWE

She’s The Boss of something different. Sasha Banks caused a buzz on social media earlier today when she abruptly changed her Twitter handle. She is now using her real name, with no mention of WWE in the handle.
She went from “SashaBanksWWE” to “MercedesVarnado”. You can see the change below:
Tweets by MercedesVarnado
Banks has been away from WWE programming since her and Naomi walked out of the company on May 16 of this year. They were the Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time, but were unhappy with the direction that the company was going. On that day, they walked into WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis’ office with their suitcases in hand, placed their tag team championship belts on his desk, and walked out.
It had been previously reported that WWE was trying to mend fences with the two following the transition of power from Vince McMahon to Triple H, but nothing had been solidified.
We will continue to monitor the story and provide updates as they become available.

Dynamite Results – September 28, 2022

Dynamite
Date: September 28, 2022
Location: Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz
We continue the road to Full Gear and that means we need to start laying the groundwork. Before we get there though, World Champion Jon Moxley has a title match coming up in about three weeks against Hangman Page. That should make for some good weeks of build so let’s get to it.
Here is the Jericho Appreciation Society (all in purple), plus Luigi Primo, who has made some NEW YORK PIZZA for….well no one here because this place is full of losers. Anna Jay says no one gets pizza and it’s all about Jericho. She threatens to choke everyone out but seems to get a bit shaken by the WE WANT PIZZA chants. Jericho gets the mic and says he is now the most watched and viewed Ring Of Honor World Champion of all time.
Tonight he is ready to take out Bandido, who no one saw as Ring Of Honor Champion because no one knows what Ring Of Honor is. Jericho even has a pres..

Shawn Michaels Reveals Changes To NXT’s Hiring Strategy

They have a type. There are all kinds of wrestlers under the WWE banner and most of them come from a few select backgrounds. You can probably figure out some of the most common, with amateur wrestling, football and mixed martial arts being very prominent. That leaves off some of the most obvious, but WWE does still have their eyes pointed elsewhere.
Shawn Michaels was recently interviewed by My San Antonio and revealed that NXT was still looking for both independent and Japanese wrestlers. Michaels said that nothing is off the table when it comes to finding new talent, which will continue to be the case in the future. This comes after reports that NXT was no longer looking for independent wrestlers but rather focusing on athletes that could be turned into wrestlers.
Opinion: This is far from a surprise and something that is still nice to hear. What matters is that WWE is trying to look through the more traditional areas for future talent. I understand the idea of bringing in athletes..

WWE Plans To Introduce Several New Titles

Shine them up real nice. Titles hold a special place in wrestling as any fan can understand the idea. Someone with a shiny belt is one of the most important wrestlers around or in this case, the reigning champion. That is something that has made sense in wrestling since its inception and it is still the case today. Now though we seem likely to be seeing some brand new titles.
According to Fightful Select, WWE has at least three new sets of titles on the way and already in their possession. There is no word on which titles WWE will be changing or when the new belts will be unveiled. WWE occasionally debuts new championship designs, with the most recent change being the newly designed Intercontinental Title, which was unveiled back in 2019.
Opinion: The term “sets of” titles has my interest as that might mean tag team titles or something else. New titles would certainly be welcome, as some of the belts that have been around for a long time now are showing their age. It would be great t..

Tony Khan Had Surprising Original Plans For Ring Of Honor

So the plan was no plan? While WWE and AEW are the most high profile wrestling promotions in the United States, they are far from the only companies in the industry. There are several other promotions out there who can offer all kinds of high quality wrestling action. One of them found a new owner this year, but it seems that the plans were not as intricate as expected.
Back in March, AEW President Tony Khan announced that he had purchased Ring Of Honor. The company has since run two events and its titles have been regularly featured on AEW television, but it does not have a television deal of its own. According to Wrestling Observer Live, Khan originally had no plans for Ring Of Honor and purchased it so that other bidders, including WWE, could not acquire it. There is no word on what Khan plans to do with the company long term.
Opinion: Well ok then. I do get the idea of purchasing a promotion so someone else can’t, but it is a little weird to think that Khan bought one of the thre..

Seth Rollins And Becky Lynch Reunite With Former WWE Stars

It’s a reunion. There are all kinds of wrestlers who pass through the WWE roster at one point or another. Some of them make a huge impact but the majority are often little more than footnotes in the company’s history. While they may be talented, they might not have gotten the kind of a chance they needed to go somewhere. Now two top WWE stars have reunited with two talented wrestlers who never got much of a shot.
Former WWE stars the Bollywood Boyz (better known as Sunil and Samir Singh) recently visited Seth Rollins’ CrossFit and posed for a photo with Rollins and his wife Becky Lynch. The brothers also praised Rollins Deadboys Fitness program while referring to Rollins and Lynch as their “road family”. The Boyz were released from WWE in June 2021 and have worked on the independent circuit since.
Just like ol’ times with the “road” family. @deadboysfitness
In a business full of adversity & uncertainty, you can only stay inspired & disciplined around individuals who have reached th..

AEW President Tony Khan Issues New Rule Regarding Releases

That is pretty cut and dry. Over the last three plus years, AEW has gone from an idea to the second biggest wrestling company in the world. As a result, there are now several more spots available for wrestlers to show what they can do on a bigger stage. This certainly has its advantages, but it does not mean that everyone on the roster is pleased. Now management is taking some steps to keep people around.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW President Tony Khan has issued a new edict saying “nobody’s getting released”. This comes amid rumors of WWE contacting several AEW wrestlers with the hopes of them requesting their releases and coming back to WWE. Rumored names include Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews, though Black has denied the rumors.
Opinion: This is a tricky one as while the wrestlers do want out of AEW, they also signed contracts saying that they would be around. That only leaves so much room for negotiations or an attempt to get out and I’m not sure how well that is..

NXT Match Stopped Due To Injury This Week

He’s down for a bit. One of the worst things to see in wrestling is an injury. You never want to see someone put on the shelf for any amount of time but unfortunately there is almost no way to prevent it from happening. Anyone can get hurt at any time and there is very little way to know it is coming. That was the situation this week and a match was stopped as a result.
This week’s NXT featured a match between Tony D’Angelo and Wes Lee. About eight minutes into the match, Lee tripped D’Angelo face first into the middle turnbuckle. D’Angelo could not get back to his feet and the match was stopped as a result. While not confirmed, commentary suggested that D’Angelo had suffered a knee injury of some kind. The match was taped on September 14 and D’Angelo has not wrestled since. There is no word on when he could return to the ring.
Opinion: That is horrible to see and now all we can do is wait and see just how bad things are for D’Angelo. A knee injury has the potential to be one of the ..

WWE Hall Of Famer Rips Sami Zayn For Trusting Roman Reigns

He isn’t a fan. There are a lot of things going on in WWE at the moment but the top story continues to be the Bloodline. Headed by Roman Reigns, the stable has dominated WWE for well over a year now and there is nothing to suggest that it will be stopping. The team has grown in recent weeks, but one legend does not seem pleased with the group’s new honorary member.
Earlier this month, Sami Zayn was made an official honorary member of the Bloodline, as Reigns gave him an “Honorary Uce” shirt. During an appearance on the SmackDown Low Down, WWE Hall of Famer gave an in-character interview where he said the Bloodline does not respect Zayn and called him a waste of skin. Lawler also said that when Zayn had no shirt on, he looked “like one of those baby birds that just fell out of the next and has no feathers yet.” Zayn has not responded to Lawler’s comments.
Opinion: Lawler is the person you call if you need an over the top statement like this and he did his job well in this case. Zayn i..
