REVIEW: Halloween Havoc 1997: The Old One

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?

This was another request and since I want to get some WCW PPVs done I have no problem knocking this one out. We’re two months out from Starrcade so this show doesn’t mean much. We have something resembling a double main event with Hogan vs. Piper in a cage and DDP vs. Savage in what would be called a last man standing match. Let’s get to it.

“Massive” Face Turn On Monday Night Raw That You Probably Missed

That’s where it goes. There have been a lot of changes in WWE over the last few weeks and some of them have been rather big. With so many moves being made, it can be difficult trying to figure out what has been going on. This involves some people moving from one show to another but some have also stayed where they were before the Draft. One of the latter is making another change.
Over the last few weeks, Lana has been attacked by Nia Jax one time after another, including being driven through the announcers’ table four times in a row. However, Lana managed to survive until the end of a battle royal on last week’s Monday Night Raw and became #1 contender to the Raw Women’s Title despite being put through a table. It turns out that WWE has a little more in mind than just making a #1 contender.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lana winning the battle royal after being put through a table was designed to be part of a “massive” face turn. The idea is that the fans will cheer..

WWE RUMOR: Vince McMahon Doesn’t Care If People Don’t Like This Wrestler

His opinion matters. While your opinion on him may vary, Vince McMahon is the most powerful person in all of the wrestling world. His sole opinion can determine what happens to anyone in the wrestling industry in the blink of an eye. This can also cause some issues, as McMahon alone can keep something going no matter what anyone else wants and that seems to be the case again now.
One of the surprises on last week’s Season Premiere of SmackDown was Goldberg appearing in the virtual crowd for the main event. Goldberg watched Roman Reigns defending the Universal Title against Braun Strowman, who had defeated Goldberg to win the title at WrestleMania 36. Goldberg has been around the WWE on and off for years and McMahon thinks that’s a good thing.
According to Inside The Ropes, McMahon thinks that there is still value in the Goldberg name and does not care about any negativity that people see in him. Goldberg is expected to continue wrestling for WWE for at least a few more years to come…

AEW Dominating All Other Wrestling Television Audiences (In One Place)

I’d call that a win. WWE has been the undisputed king of professional wrestling for a very long time now and that is still the case for the most part. However, for the first time in decades, WWE has some serious competition in the form of All Elite Wrestling. The company has made an instant impact on the wrestling world and it turns out that they are a big deal outside the United States as well.
Over the last year, AEW has been fairly regularly defeating NXT in the Wednesday Night Wars television ratings and audience. NXT has picked up a few wins here and there but for the most part, it has been the AEW Dynamite show. This has been quite the selling point for AEW so far, and it seems that they have another point to brag about, even if it is from around the world.
AEW Vice President Cody has sent out a tweet detailing AEW’s success on television in the United Kingdom. The tweet includes the following information:
• AEW Dynamite is beating the first-run broadcast of all of its competi..

WWE May Be Giving AJ Styles A Very Big Upgrade

What might be. WWE is undergoing a lot of changes at the moment and a lot of that has to do with the WWE Draft. Several of the wrestlers on both the Monday Night Raw and SmackDown rosters were shifted around, opening up several new doors for storylines and character development. That could involve someone who is new to the main roster and needing his big break.
One of the more important changes in the Draft was AJ Styles being moved back to Monday night Raw. After spending the last year on SmackDown, it was time for Styles to see what he could do elsewhere. Styles is the kind of person who can work well with anyone and that could be the case with a lot of people on Monday Night Raw, including someone you might not have expected.
According to Fightful Select, WWE had considered making Jordan Omogbehin into a bodyguard for Styles. Omogbehin has been serving as the security for Raw underground and had a brief staredown with Braun Strowman on Monday Night Raw. He also portrayed the giant..

Big Show Earns Acting Award Nomination

He’s getting better. Wrestlers are in a weird place when it comes to entertainment. They are portraying characters, but for some reason there are always going to be people reminding you that it is fake. You don’t get this in other forms of acting, but wrestlers are treated differently for some reason. That doesn’t mean they can’t act, and that was on display for one notable wrestler recently.
The Big Show, real name Paul Wight, really is one of the most unique wrestlers in the world. In addition to his size and physical attributes, Big Show has a great charisma and comedic timing that you don’t get from a lot of other wrestlers. That is the kind of thing could serve him elsewhere outside of the ring and it seems to have done that in a place you might not have expected to see.
Big Show has been nominated for an acting award for his role in the film Marcus. The film has been nominated for several awards at the Eastern European International Film Festival, with Big Show receiving a nomi..

VIDEO: R-Truth Joins A Viral TikTok Challenge

His other talents. Wrestlers are incredible performers as they have to mix together athleticism, action, drama and occasionally comedy, romance, intrigue and more, all in front of a live crowd. That is a heck of a trick to pull off and it should be praised even more than it already is. Every now and then you find someone who is even more talented than most and that is the case with a current WWE star.
R-Truth has been in wrestling for a long time now but he also has another passion which may be even bigger. For more than twenty years, R-Truth has also maintained a music career, which includes him performing his own entrance music. His music career has been around for a very long time with R-Truth often releasing various songs and music videos. That is the case again, but in a bit of a different way.
This is a different one. Check out what R-Truth has gotten into this time:

Opinion: 2020 WWE Draft; Day 2 Thoughts

On last week’s episode of Raw, Day 2 of the 2020 WWE Draft took place. While there were some shocking moves on Day 1, the landscape changed even more on Raw, with some moves that will allow for some new and very exciting feuds to close out the year and lead up to Wrestlemania 37.
Let’s get into it with some of the bigger moves:
“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt moves to Raw
I can get behind this. I’ve said many times that I believe that “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt will end up becoming the greatest character of our generation, and I’m guessing that is that they are eventually going to have him challenge for WWE Championship. However, WWE has ensured that this move will work for the time being, because is Alexa Bliss is also now on the red brand. That HAD to happen.

The Street Profits to Smackdown
Swap-for-swap with The New Day for the tag team championships, which is fine. My only fear is that they will immediately put them into a program with Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro, who were drafted to Sma..

Impact Wrestling Results – October 13, 2020

Impact Wrestling
Date: October 13, 2020
Location: Skyway Studios, Nashville, Tennessee
Commentators: Josh Matthews, Madison Rayne
We’re almost up to Bound For Glory and that means it’s time to add in a few more matches before building up everything that has already been set. The show is still lacking that one big match to really make it feel special and I’m not sure what could fill in that role. That’s kind of a problem on the biggest show of the year. Let’s get to it.
Opening recap.
Moose is yelling at Scott D’Amore for being put in a match in an undisclosed location. D’Amore reminds him that it will also be against an opponent who doesn’t work here for a title he never won. Moose has no time for this and storms off.
We cut to EC3 saying Moose is controlling his narrative. EC3 holds up the title and we cut to Moose, saying he knows where he needs to go.
Opening sequence.
Rosemary/Taya Valkyrie vs. Tasha Steelz/Kiera Hogan vs. Nevaeh/Havok Rosemary waistlocks Nevaeh to open thing..

WWE RUMOR: Becky Lynch Backstage At SmackDown

Back where she belongs. The Women’s Revolution has done so much good for WWE over the last few years that it is hard to imagine that anything could have been done otherwise before. Women’s wrestling has become a featured part of any WWE show and that is likely to be the case for a long time to come. The biggest star has been missing for a few months now, though there might be some plans coming in the future.
The Women’s Revolution began with the debut of three women from NXT, including Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Charlotte. While the other two have cone on to become stars in their own right, Lynch has become the biggest star women’s wrestling has ever seen. That is the kind of thing that you can’t exactly plan, but you are certainly going to miss her when she is gone. Lynch is currently out of action on maternity leave, but that does not last forever and WWE seems to be making preparations.
According to Ringsidenews.com and confirmed by Talksport.com, Lynch was backstage at this wee..

Chris Jericho Releasing Detailed List Of All 2,725 Matches In His Career

That’s a unique read. There are some wrestlers who pop in and out of the industry from time to time and others who are around for the long haul. On top of them, you have wrestlers who are absolute lifers who can survive no matter where they go. Some of them have the most fascinating stories in all of wrestling and now we are going to get one of the better stories around.
Over the course of the last thirty years, Chris Jericho has become one of the biggest stars in the history of professional wrestling. He has wrestled in almost every major wrestling promotion of the modern era and has held more titles than he knows what to do with over the years. Jericho has been everywhere but he has also kept track of his matches. Now we are going to be getting to see what he has done in incredible detail.
During the most recent edition of his Saturday Night Special, Jericho announced a new book which will cover his entire career up to his 2,725th match, which will take place on Wednesday’s AEW Dyn..

Netflix Cancels GLOW’s Final Season Over Coronavirus

So close yet so far. Wrestling is the most unique form of entertainment in the world as it is some weird mixture of action, drama, comedy, romance and theater, plus the athletic side of it adding an entirely different layer. That makes for some of the most fascinating viewing to be found anywhere, but also an incredibly interesting industry for outsiders to look into. That was the case with a pretty big show, but now it has been cut off just before its ending.
Back in 2017, GLOW debuted on Netflix and offered a different look at the world of wrestling. This was a very unique take on the industry as GLOW was based on the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling series from the 1980s, which was more of a show about wrestling than a wrestling show. The Netflix series has been well received and has even won a few Emmy Awards, but the series is not going to have the best finale.
According to Deadline.com, Netflix has decided to cancel the series, meaning there will be no fourth and final season. The ..
