Lucha Underground Returning For A Fourth Season?
What was once the hottest new promotion on the wrestling scene has been slowly fading into obscurity lately. Lucha Underground had two very strong seasons, but the current third season has seen all the hype and hubbub surrounding the promotion slowly but surely dissipate.
It’s being reported now, though, that there could be some good news for the El Rey show. There is a potential source of funding for a fourth season, but the budget for the show would have to be slashed to almost bare bones levels. So, while the future of the promotion still looks bleak, it’s not as bad as it was once made out to be.
It’s also being reported that most of the talent contracted to Lucha Underground want out, and one of the promotion’s biggest names, Prince Puma (Ricochet) is already finished with the company. But, even though his contract has expired, he’s said that he has a 90 day no-compete clause that kicks in only when the third season finishes airing on El Rey.
“My contract finished last June. I’m on the no-compete for the rest of Lucha Underground’s season three, then I have 90 days after that. I can be on any TV as long as it’s not American TV. I can work indies, I can do iPPVs, most anything, really, just not on American TV. I’m not sure about a Season 4 with Lucha Underground. I’m busy until October, and I might take November off to heal up again.”
So, with names like Ricochet no longer associated with the promotion, it will be interesting to see what, if any, direction the promotion would take for a fourth season.
