It’s only September, but one team for the 2017 NJPW World Tag League has apparently already been set. Dave Meltzer gave the name of a rather interesting team that is set to appear on this year’s tour on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio.

The Chosen Bros, Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb, will apparently debut in NJPW during this year’s tournament. This is more than a bit of a surprise considering Matt Riddle’s position with WWN, PROGRESS, and EVOLVE, who all have working relationships with WWE. One wouldn’t think that Riddle would not be working for such a vocal competitor of WWE, but it appears that he really is a free-agent in every sense of the word.

The World Tag League is held under a points system, with 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. It runs along the same rules at the G1 Climax tournament, only with tag teams instead of singles of competitors.

This year’s World Tag League tournament is scheduled to take place from November 18th through December 11th. The winner of the tournament will get a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles a WrestleKingdom 12 at The Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2018.
