AJ Styles Wins WWE United States Championship At MSG
AJ Styles won his first WWE United States Championship on Friday night in a sudden win at Madison Square Garden. The Phenomenal One defeated “The Face of America” Kevin Owens in front of thousands in New York City following the phenomenal forearm from the top rope. The win was a shock for most fans in The Garden who were expecting Owens to win since the event was a house show and not immediately televised on WWE programming.
This is Styles’ second championship in WWE. His previous run with the WWE Championship lasted from September 11, 2016 until the Royal Rumble (January 29, 2017).
In a WWE video, Styles spoke about his victory.
Styles was scheduled to challenge Owens for the U.S. title at WWE Battleground. This was due to the Georgia-native’s victory during the SmackDown Live Independence Day Battle Royal last week to determine the No. 1 contender for the WWE United States Championship.
