ROH Best In The World PPV Main Event Confirmed
It was revealed last night that the main event of Ring of Honor’s Best in the World pay per view on Friday, June 23rd will see ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels put his title on the line against Cody Rhodes.
The announcement comes after “The American Nightmare” had sought a chance at the title one on one after narrowly missing out on the gold in a triple threat bout that included Jay Lethal at the War of the Worlds event earlier this month. The match came to a dramatic conclusion when Rhodes, while applying a figure four leg lock on Lethal, was pinned by a retaining Daniels after landing his Best Moonsault Ever.
Following the event, Rhodes complained on ROH TV with the backing of color commentator Colt Cabana and his lawyers that as Lethal’s shoulders were on the mat as the referee counted the pin, he had a rightful claim to the gold.
Heading into the event, it is expected that Rhodes will play the role of an outsider after the Bullet Club man recently u-turned on earlier claims that he was ready to settle on a full time home professionally. The storyline of the fairytale champion defending the company’s title against an untrustworthy free agent, as well as the hype of these two facing off alone, ensures that excitement levels are high for the showdown in a few weeks time.
The fourth annual Best in the World event will broadcast live from The Lowell Memorial Auditorium on a host of platforms including ROHWrestling.com and the Fite TV app at 9:00 EST/6:00 PST.
