Missouri Couple Charged With Toddler’s Death After Wrestling Move

On May 16th, Addie Cook, 2, was suffering from a seizure when EMS arrived at her home where they noticed obvious signs of trauma. Police say the mother’s boyfriend, Richard Gamanch Jr., 24, was performing wrestling moves on the child, including a “Batista Bomb”,  prior to the injuries. Addie died at the hospital a few days later. Gamache had initially denied abusing the little girl but eventually said Addie may have suffered from a head injury from a wrestling move. He told police Addie had struck her head on a concrete wall near his bed.

Police say Addie’s mother was afraid of losing custody of her child or endangering her relationship with Gamache as the reason she did not stop the abuse. Cook and Gamache lived together for only six days before the child was taken to the hospital. Texts messages discovered by detectives from Gamache include a photo of bruising to Addie’s face and forehead on May 13th saying “playing too rough”.

Gamache was charged with abuse of neglect of a child and has a $500,000 cash-only bond. Cheyenne Cook 19 was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She has a $2,500 cash-only bond.

The child’s organs have been donated to Children’s Hospital. The child’s extended family has launched a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral costs.

WWE Issues Statement On Child’s Death

WWE issued the following statement about this tragic situation.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic death and hope that the guilty parties are brought to justice. There is no excuse or justification for the brutal and ultimately fatal beating of a 2-year-old child by a grown man. This is a clear case of criminal intent and a lack of parental supervision.”

WWE always tells fans and viewers to not try the moves the see at home. This is another real example of the consequences. We at Top Rope Press express our sincere condolences for those affected by this tragedy.
