Ring Of Honor Going On Hiatus, Wrestlers Being Released From Contracts
That doesn’t sound good. The Coronavirus pandemic changed the way the world worked, including professional wrestling. Almost everything underwent some kind of a change and some of those changes are still being felt today. While some things are back to normal, there are still a few pieces that need to be adjusted, and now we are seeing some of the fallout for one company.
Ring of Honor Wrestling has announced that they will be going on hiatus following the December 11 Final Battle event. The company’s statement, released on Twitter, says that the company has kept everyone full contracted for 18 months without running a live event. They now need to change their business operations and pivot to a new strategy and mission. The company will take the first quarter of 2022 to make changes and plans to return in April 2022 with Supercard of Honor.
In addition, Dave Meltzer is reporting that Ring of Honor has released all of its wrestlers from their contracts. According to PWInsider.com, several Ring of Honor wrestlers were told that if their contracts are expiring at the end of the year, they will not be renewed. Those wrestlers will be able to sign anywhere immediately, but other wrestlers will remain under contract through March or April 2022. Ring of Honor’s weekly television show will continue with mostly archival footage.

Opinion: I’m not sure what to think of this, but ultimately, I’m not the most surprised. Seeing a lack of fans in the arena for months on end and losing a lot of their big stars has not helped things. The wrestling has been very good, but that does not make things good from a business sense. I have no idea how Ring of Honor will look when they come back, but I don’t think we’ll ever see it again as we know it after Final Battle.
