New Direction Coming For NXT Stars

It’s a different way to go. NXT is in a unique place in the wrestling world as not only does it serve as its own television show, but also as the place for new WWE stars to get their start. That can make things a little trickier than usual, but it also means you can see some interesting things take place. We might be seeing that again with a rather specific group of people.

According to Fightful Select, WWE is currently planning to focus more on the cruiserweights in NXT. This will involve a focus on Kushida, the reigning Cruiserweight Champion. These plans have been in place for several weeks, as NXT has been very high on Kushida since he debuted. Kushida was in action in the main event of this week’s edition of NXT, losing in a non-title match to Kyle O’Reilly. Following the match, the Diamond Mine debuted and attacked Kushida, with manager Malcolm Bivens holding the Cruiserweight Title in front of Diamond Mine member Roderick Strong.

WWE reintroduced the Cruiserweight Title in the finals of the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016. The title and the division would be moved to Monday Night Raw, along with the new weekly series 205 Live. The Cruiserweight Title moved to NXT in October 2019, where it has been defended since. There is no word on if the title or NXT wrestlers will be appearing on 205 Live more frequently in the future.

This could be some great news. Check out the Cruiserweight Champions of recent memory:

Opinion: This is certainly a chance and I could go for more of it, though I’m not sure how it is going to go. One of the bigger issues is the fact that so many high level NXT wrestlers already are cruiserweights, making it a little strange to have more of a focus on the division and title. Maybe there is something that can work out well for it, but it is going to be a little confusing.

What do you think of the change? How much will it help NXT? Let us know in the comments below.
