She has potential. One of the most common criticisms of wrestlers is that they are only acting. Wrestlers are seen as people playing roles in fake stories. At the same time, they are rarely given credit for their acting skills, as they are often told that they are wrestlers instead of actors. You will occasionally see the two paths cross, and now another top WWE star may be interested in such a move. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE And AEW Couple Hit The Weights In The Gym Earlier this year, WWE star Becky Lynch appeared on the third season debut of Young Rock. Lynch’s husband Seth Rollins was interviewed by WQAD News (ABC affiliate in Moline, Illinois) where he talked about Lynch’s acting career. Rollins said that Lynch’s acting career is starting to “perk up a little bit and that’s where she wants to go”. He went on to say that if the two eventually went “out west”, so be it, though they would be fine to stay where they are. Lynch has dabbled in acting on and off throughout her t..
Crossing company lines. The rise of AEW has changed the wrestling world. After years of WWE dominating the industry, AEW has offered a new platform for the wrestlers and fans to go. There are several prominent stars on the AEW roster, including many former WWE names. A WWE star has now posted a video of herself and her significant other, a member of the AEW roster, getting ready to work. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Almost: WWE Faces Visa Issues Preventing World Champion From Working WrestleMania WWE’s Rhea Ripley has posted a video her of herself and her boyfriend, AEW’s Buddy Matthews, training in the gym. The video shows Matthews spotting Ripley as she lifts weights and encourages her during the workout. This comes as Ripley is being portrayed as the on-screen girlfriend of Dominik Mysterio on Monday Night Raw. Matthews is currently part of the House Of Black in AEW. It’s a unique setup. Check out the two of them training, plus the two of them in action on their own: [This post contai..
As people outside of the big promotions like AEW, we often forget that we see these performers for maybe 30 mins of television time per week, which could be much less for underutilized talents. If you compare this to the standard 40 hour work week, we’re seeing so little of what actually goes into becoming a star in the wrestling business. For instance, Fuego Del Sol has been training extensively despite limited appearances on AEW programming over the course of 2022. He took to Twitter on Thursday to share his progress and goals into improving his craft as well as being prepared for any future opportunities. I bought a wrestling ring to take my in ring training to another level. Developed a new gym discipline. Working out 6 days a week and already see a difference in my body! Wrestling on the indies more so I stay ring ready and prepared for bigger AEW matches. Confidence way up! https://t.co/3rt9qzaiMn — Fuego Del Sol (@FuegoDelSol) November 17, 2022 During an exchange on Twit..
We have some sad news to report today as former WWE superstar and Tough Enough winner Sara Lee has passed away at the age of 30. Her mother announced the news on her Facebook page. WWE Tough Enough 2015 winner, Sara Lee has sadly passed away at the age of 30, as shared by her mother on Facebook. Heartbreaking. RIP. pic.twitter.com/wbaYLGx6nR — Wrestle Ops (@WrestleOps) October 6, 2022 From Bleacher Report: Lee appeared on the comeback season of the WWE reality competition series in 2015, earning a one-year contract with the company. She was released from her contract in 2016. The cause of Lee’s death has not been announced. She posted a photo of herself on Instagram two days ago with a caption that read, “Celebrating finally being healthy enough to go to the gym 2 days in a row … first ever sinus infection kicked my butt.” She was a surprising winner of Tough Enough, as she had been up for elimination five times before being named a finalist. The fans voted her as the winner, a..
It still doesn’t feel real. Vince McMahon retired from WWE last month, ending nearly forty years of him in control as the company. It seems that retired might be the nice version of what really happened, as McMahon left amid an investigation into sexual misconduct with various employees. As a result, McMahon did not leave on the best of terms, but what has he been doing since? According to PWInsider.com, McMahon has had no official contact with WWE since retiring. McMahon has not been at Titan Towers, including not even going to the building’s gym. McMahon is not legally allowed to run the company in any capacity due to his retirement and could face legal issues if he did something behind the scenes. In addition, John Laurinaitis is officially still part of WWE but is likely to leave as soon as the investigation into him ends. Opinion: I know it has been a few weeks now but this is still hard to actually accept. McMahon did not get to leave on his own terms (at least in theory) but h..
He’s getting there. Injuries are one of the few things that can slow down any wrestler no matter how hot they are. Someone can be just fine one day and then be out for months starting on the next, and that can be absolutely devastating for a wrestler’s career. That was the case earlier this year, and now we have a positive update on their long road to recovery. Earlier this year at WrestleMania 38, Rick Boogs suffered a torn quadricep muscle that would require surgery and put him on the shelf for several months. Boogs has posted a new video of himself lifting weights in the gym while standing. There is still no word on when Boogs will be back in action, though it has been about four months since he had his surgery. He is certainly energetic. Check out what Boogs has been up to: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: That is quite the impressive feat, as Boogs has only been out of action for a few months and is already starting to get back to his old form. The acquisitions continue. Today, WWE announced its next “Next in Line” class of collegiate athletes who are allowed to profit off of their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). This program allows students to begin training in WWE while still attending colleges and universities worldwide. The class is as follows: Ali Mattox of Ole Miss, a 5-foot-7 cheer & dance athlete from Little Rock, Ark. Case Hatch of Arizona State, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound football player from Gilbert, Ariz. Chandler Hayden of Tennessee, a 5-foot-11 track & field athlete from Pittsfield, Ill. Cohlton Schultz of Arizona State, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound wrestler from Parker, Colo. Derrian Gobourne of Auburn, a 5-foot-4 gymnast from Sarasota, Fla. Ericka Link of Elon, a 5-foot-6 volleyball player from Hedgesville, W.Va. Keshaun Moore of Hampton, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound football player from Suffolk, Va. Luke Ford of Illinois, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound football player from Carterville, Ill. Maliq Carr of Michigan State, a 6-foot-5, 2..
So that’s where he has been. When a wrestling promotion has a lot of wrestlers on its roster, it can be difficult to keep track of where everyone is. It can be even more difficult when someone misses a bit of time for one reason or another, as fans will forget them even more quickly. If someone is gone for a significant amount of time, it makes things far worse. Now we know where one missing star has been. AEW star Miro has revealed that he is currently living in Brooklyn filming a pilot of some sort but without elaborating on what it is. There is no word on when Miro is expected back on AEW television. He has not wrestled since the Full Gear pay per view in November 2021 due to a hamstring injury, though he has reportedly been ready to return to the ring for a while now. Super excited about this upcoming pilot. Living in Brooklyn has definitely opened my eyes about living in a city, walking to a gym and groceries. #Dushkin pic.twitter.com/cqByK9UURV — Miro (@ToBeMiro) March 28, 202..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Summer Bash 2016 Date: June 24, 2016 Location: Evolution Sports Gym, Elizabethtown, Tennessee Commentators: Matt Rhodes, Mike Cooper, Heath Snead This is from NWA Smoky Mountain as I continue a trek through some random independent companies (or as independent as the NWA is). As usual, I have no idea what to expect from this show but it’s the NWA in Tennessee so you can imagine the fans are going to be pretty into the show. Let’s get to it. Keep in mind that I have no idea what is going on here from a storyline or..
She’s good at that too. Wrestlers get a bad reputation when it comes to athleticism. While they are certainly athletes, they are often looked at differently because the matches they take part in are pre-determined. That is something that can make people skeptical of what they can do athletically, but it can be made better when you see them succeed elsewhere. That was the case again this week. Impact Wrestling’s Jordynne Grace announced on twitter that she competed at the Owen’s Gym Unsanctioned Power Lifting Meet over the weekend, winning first in her class in her weight class and overall while being named the strongest female at the competition. Her team also won the Team Award. Grace regularly competes in power lifting competitions and has won awards and trophies in previous efforts. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jordynne Grace (@jordynnegrace) Opinion: That is the kind of thing that you do not get to see very often and it makes what Grace can do that much more impr..
AEW superstar Jade Cargill was recently interviewed by Bleacher Report where she discussed a number of topics. Among them were transitioning from Basketball to Pro Wrestling, winning the TBS Championship, her dream opponent, and more. Below are some highlights from the interview: On transitioning from basketball to wrestling: “I have a much later schedule now. I used to wake up probably around 5:30 in the morning, do some cardio and start my day,” she said. “But because now my training classes are later in the day, I wake up probably around 11 if I don’t have to drop my daughter off in the morning. Also, I do less cardio in the gym. “I do more cardio in the ring. More than anything to be honest. I think wrestling training is the best type of cardio workout you could do. So I do everything when it comes to cardio in the ring right now unless I can’t get in the ring. Then I probably do a hit like a hit workout or something like that. I still lift weights the same.” On winning the TB..
That’s it for her. There have been a lot of changes to WWE in the last year and a half, with more names leaving than most people can hope to remember. That is not a good thing to see, as it leaves a lot of wrestlers without a place to go. Some of them are a bit luckier than others though, and now one of them has officially wrapped up her time as part of WWE. Earlier this week, former NXT star Kairi Sane officially removed WWE references from her social media accounts. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sane’s WWE deal has officially expired and she is allowed to work anywhere. WWE had wanted Sane to return to the company to wrestle, but Sane had no interest in living in the United States again. Sane recently opened a gym and wants to return to wrestling, though it is not clear where she will go. Sane was a heck of a star in WWE. Check out some of her time in the company: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post c..
It was a unique bet. There have been some major changes to the wrestling world in recent months and a lot of them have been very interesting. Several names have moved from one promotion to another, with some surprises coming out of nowhere. That was certainly the case last month and now one of the surprises is turning a table on someone who never saw it coming. CM Punk returned wrestling in August and announced that he would be getting back in the ring. On Sunday at AEW All Out, Punk defeat Darby Allin in Punk’s first match since January 2014. According to Wrestlinginc.com, Punk posted a since deleted tweet, featuring a screenshot of a fan saying he would eat his shoes if Punk ever returned. Punk said “it is time to address this” and the fan has seemingly replied, tweeting out a photo of his shoes and saying they would be lightly salted and cooked at 450 degrees. Punk has not responded to the other tweet. Gym Shoes, lightly salted, roasted at 450°. Deal’s a deal, Punk, let’s do this...
One more final time? There are all kinds of wrestlers in the world but a lot of them have things in common. One of the biggest is the inability to finally hang up their boots and walk away. It is rare to see a wrestler who truly retires for good, as almost everyone makes a comeback of some sort. Now we might be seeing another one, which could get people talking for the wrong reasons. Free agent Ric Flair has posted a pair of tweets, including a photo of himself in the gym showing off his bicep and a video from a Monday Night Raw of himself saying he will never retire. While not confirmed, this could suggest that Flair, 72, is looking to return to wrestling, possibly in a physical role. There is nothing to suggest that Flair has already signed a new deal since his release from WWE last month. His most recent match took place on August 18, 2011. Damn Right! ?? Do You Think An Airplane Crash, Being Struck By Lightning, And Almost Dying Four Years Ago Can Stop The Nature Boy? Hell No! WO..
That would be crossing a line. Wrestling is a lot of things, but ultimately it is a medium for the masses. Fans are going to want to see what is going on with the wrestlers and their feuds, but sometimes you see or hear something that is going to rub people the wrong way. That was the case this week and now one of the bigger wrestling promotions had to make a change. This week on AEW Dark, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, Max Caster performed a rap on the way to the ring. The rap referenced United States Olympic gymnast Simone Biles’ mental health issues as well as the Duke University lacrosse team rape allegations. The rap was heavily criticized on social media and has since been edited off of the YouTube video of the show. There is no word on if Caster will be punished in any way. This wasn’t going to go well. Check out the rap, plus some less controversial stuff from AEW: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This po..
He’s still got it. Love him or hate him, there is absolutely no one like Vince McMahon. He is about as unique of a personality as you will ever find with an insane commitment to almost anything he does. This is mostly the case with business and the wrestling world, but McMahon does have a few other interests. One of those was on display recently and is rather impressive. WWE’s corporate trainer Michael Monteforte has posted a new video to Instagram showing McMahon working out at WWE’s gym in Stamford, Connecticut. McMahon is doing a leg workout in a machine where he is leaning backwards and using his legs to push the weight up. There is now word on when the footage was shot. McMahon appeared on this week’s edition of SmackDown from Houston, Texas. This is pretty impressive. Check out McMahon’s workout, plus some other stars in training: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: McMahon ..
That could be anything. There are a lot of different ways to present a new star or group of stars, some of which are more effective than the others. One of the more interesting ways to go is to build up some intrigue in a debuting star and then eventually pay it off. That is what NXT is trying again, though this time around they have given very few hints. Now though, it is time to find something out. During this week’s edition of NXT, a vignette aired saying that the Diamond Mine will be opening next week, on the June 22 edition of the show. This is the latest vignette in a series advertising the Diamond Mine, with the visuals showing an unknown person or group of people training in a gym. There is no word on who will be involved in the Diamond Mine or what they will be doing. The Diamond Mine has been teased for a while now. Check out some of the vignettes and one of the most important Diamonds in wrestling history: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vi..
Night one of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s G1 Climax 30 Tournament took place at the Osaka Perfectual Gymansium in Osaka, Japan on September 19. It was the opening night of a tourney that will stretch for 19 total events throughout the month of September, concluding on October 18. Pro wrestling fans from all over the globe tuned in to the first night on New Japan World with big expectations. The September 19 event featured Block A, which showcased some of the company’s heavy hitters. Of the six matches on the card, five were G1 bouts and the opening match was a Young Lion exhibition, which saw Yuya Uemura get the win over Yota Tsuji. When the final bell sounded on that match, the G1 Climax 30 was officially underway. -Will Ospreay defeated Yujiro Takahashi ? ????? #G1CLIMAX30 ??? ?????A???????? ? ?2???A????????? ????????????????????? ? ????????? × ????? ? #njpwworld ?????#G1CLIMAX30 ??????https://t.co/Tj7UBJ4PjP#njpwworld #njpw pic.twitter.com/Pdw6Pmiud9 — njpwworld (@njpwworld) Se..
The big man stepped in. We are in an unprecedented time in wrestling at the moment with government orders being used to fight the spread of the Coronavirus, but at the same time they are doing a lot of damage to the wrestling industry. Since there are only so many people in one place at one time, wrestling companies are having some issues with getting their shows out there. It almost got a lot more complicated than ever before. AEW is one of the two wrestling companies that has been able to hang in there every week with new shows. Some of them are taped in advance but having so many resources at their disposal can help them a lot. However, there are limitations to what they are capable of pulling off and that limit was on display earlier this week, when things almost got shut down. According to Wrestlinginc.com, this week’s AEW television taping was nearly shut down by the state of Georgia. The show, which was taking place at QT Marshall’s gym in Norcross, Georgia, was interrupted by..
