REVIEW: Elimination Chamber 2017: Last One

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?

We’re two weeks removed from the Royal Rumble and that means it’s time for another pay per view. This time it’s Smackdown only with the big namesake match setting up the Wrestlemania World Title match for the blue brand. The winner seems pretty obvious but that’s never stopped WWE before. Let’s get to it.

Tread Carefully: Brock Lesnar Reportedly Faces Backstage Heat Over Royal Rumble Tirade

He’s not like everyone else. There is no one quite like Brock Lesnar in the history of professional wrestling. With his amateur skills, mixed martial arts training and pure strength, Lesnar is not someone who can be duplicated. WWE knows this and has presented him as one of the biggest stars in the company’s history. That does not mean Lesnar is immune to criticism though and now he is in a bit of hot water.

Lesnar took part in the Men’s Royal Rumble match last weekend but was eliminated by Bobby Lashley in less than three minutes. Following his elimination, Lesnar through the ring steps onto the announcers’ table and attacked a referee. According to Fightful Select, there was some heat on Lesnar over the reaction, as some of it was not planned. However, heat is said to be a subjective term for Lesnar, who is not expected to be in trouble over the incident.

Blast From The Past: Cody Rhodes Hints At Bringing Back Winged Eagle WWE Title

He would have some sway. Titles are the most important part of most wrestling promotions and it can mean a lot for a wrestler to win them. Several wrestlers have been boosted up above the rest of the roster by becoming a champion and getting to hold a shiny title belt. A title has to have the right design and it can make a big difference when the design is changed. Now a WWE star is teasing bringing back a classic title.

Earlier this week, Cody Rhodes won the Men’s Royal Rumble match, earning a title shot against Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Rhodes appeared on this week’s edition of the Bump and spoke about his admiration for the classic “Winged Eagle” WWE Title belt. The design was used from 1988 until 1998 with Steve Austin being the last to hold it. When Rhodes win the Intercontinental Title in 2011, he brought back the classic title d..

Ouch: AEW Faces Lawsuit Over Using Luchasaurus Mask Without Creator’s Permission

That’s not a good look. The right attire is one of the most important parts of a wrestler’s presentation. Making a wrestler look good is a great way to give the fans a reason to care about them, which can be incredibly tricky. That can involve some very unique looking material, but in a recent case, it is not going well for a current star, as a certain part of his gear is getting him in legal trouble.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s New: AEW Announces Series Of Non-Televised Live Events
According to Wrestlenomics, AEW and Luchasaurus are being sued by a company called Composite Effects LLC (CFX) for using and profiting from their design in Luchasaurus’ mask without permission. While Luchasaurus was allowed to use the mask in the ring, there was no permission to use it in merchandise. CFX provided emails from Luchasaurus talking about a possible modification of a mask the company had created before, which became his signature mask. When CFX attempted to come to a licensing agreement, no..

That’s a big step. The rise of streaming technology has been a complete game changer for wrestling fans, as they now have access to more content and options than ever before. Several promotions run events throughout the country but it is always special to get to see one of them in person. Now one of the biggest promotions is adding a completely different kind of show.

Big One: Former Champion Makes Surprise Return On AEW Dynamite

Welcome back. With so many talents on its roster, it can be difficult for AEW to find something for everyone to do. That can make for some complicated situations and occasionally a wrestler will be on the sidelines for one reason or another. An injury can make that even more of a problem, but now a missing star is back and he has vengeance on his mind.

Charlotte Flair: “I Didn’t Find Out I Was Winning The Title Until I Got There”

WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair was recently interviewed on “Out of Character” with Ryan Satin, where she discussed a number of topics. Among them were her return to WWE, dental issues that kept her out of wrestling, how she found out she was winning the Smackdown Women’s Championship and more.
Below are some highlights from the interview:
On returning to WWE:
“I didn’t feel any ring rust. The only difference is being a good guy instead of a bad guy, you know, wanting to tell my bad guy what to do (she laughs), but keep your mouth shut. But no, it’s been great. This is the first time I’ve really committed to being a good guy. Like, I’m all in. There’s no on the fence or I don’t want to do this or I feel awkward. I’m gonna go for it.”
On dental issues that kept Charlotte out of the ring:

Dynamite

We are about a month away from Revolution and that means it is time to start hammering down the card. You can probably guess a good bit of it from here and that is a strong sign for the show. This week will feature a pair of title matches, including Jade Cargill’s latest conquest and Samoa Joe getting his rematch for the TNT Title. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Page Moxley comes through the crowd with Wheeler Yuta and….his own father. Moxley starts the fight in the crowd and takes it into the audience as we are waiting on the opening bell. Page gets in a whip into a barricade and they keep brawling back to ringside. Moxley wraps the chair around Page’s leg but Page throws said chair at Moxley to take over.
They finally get in the ring and slug it out, with Moxley’s eye busted open. Moxley is fine enough to grab an armbar but Page is back up ..

WATCH: Title Change Takes Place On AEW Dynamite

He got it back. Titles are one of the most important things in the wrestling world. A championship is the way that fans figure out who the top stars in the company are supposed to be. In addition, they are often the focal point of major storylines as wrestlers try to win any championships they can. A title change can mean something and now that has taken place again.

Not A Fan: Former WWE Star Slams Logan Paul, Credits Shawn Michaels For Paul’s Success

I guess he isn’t impressed. Celebrities appearing at wrestling events has been a concept that has been around for decades. It can be interesting to see famous people from outside of the industry getting a chance to step inside the ring. Occasionally you will find someone who feels like a natural and looks quite good in the ring. That has been the case with a celebrity coming to WWE, but a former WWE star is not impressed.

Logan Paul wrestled his first match at WrestleMania 38 and went on to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at Crown Jewel in a losing effort. Paul’s matches have received positive reviews, citing his lack of experience. Former WWE star John Morrison spoke about Paul’s career during an appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, saying that while Paul had good matches, a lot of it was due to his coaching from Shawn Michaels. He’s Busy: You Probably Won’t Be Seeing John Cena Before WrestleMania 39

He’s busy. We are officially on the Road To WrestleMania 39 and that means it is time to start getting everything in order. This includes setting up the biggest matches possible, some of which can be a bit difficult to pin down. WWE likes to have as many big names on the card as they can, but if they want one of the most important, they are going to have to do it without much time in between.
