Extreme Rules 2021 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

It’s time to go EXTREME, but I don’t think anyone has told WWE about that part. This is Extreme Rules, and of the six (yes only six) matches announced so far, a grand total of one has anything beyond a standard match structure (at this point, triple threats are a way of life and hardly extreme, or even out of the ordinary. I’m sure a few more matches will be added, but it would be nice to have some stipulations added, just to spice things up a bit. Let’s get to it.
Carmella vs. Liv Morgan We’ll get the least important one out of the way first. This is a feud that started when Carmella did her best Mandy Rose in NXT impression and suffered a face injury during a match with Morgan. That set a feud between Morgan and Carmella/Zelina Vega, the latter of whom defeated Morgan this week on Smackdown. Do you have any idea how far you’ve fallen when you’re losing to Vega?
How it got started:

I’ll go with Morgan here, if nothing else because I can’t ..

AEW RUMOR: Update On Wrestling Legend’s Health Issues

That could be worse. There are all kinds of reasons that someone might be out of action from wrestling. It can be even scarier when someone has a history of bad health issues. Some of them are going to be more serious than others, but it can be quite the relief to hear that things are not as serious as they could have been. Now we might have some better news about a certain legend.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Jake Roberts was undergoing health issues that had him in a wheelchair and using an oxygen tube. According to Bodyslam.net, Roberts is in a wheelchair due to undergoing foot surgery, including having pins inserted into his toes. This is the reason he has been away from AEW television. Roberts has been managing Lance Archer.
Roberts has had a big time in AEW. Check out some of his moments there:

VIDEO: Special Tribute Entrance Before This Week’s SmackDown

Sticking to the classics. There are a lot of things that go into making someone a star in wrestling and some of them are a bit more obvious than others. One of the most important things is their entrance music, especially if it is part of a grand entrance package. That has been the case more than once over the years and someone paid tribute to a classic this week.
A video has been posted to Twitter showing SmackDown broadcaster Pat McAfee making his entrance to Metallica’s Enter Sandman while carrying a Singapore cane. McAfee beat on the announcers’ table with the cane before taking his seat. This was done as a tribute to the Sandman, who wrestled in the original run of ECW. This week’s SmackDown took place in Philadelphia, ECW’s home city.
This was pretty amazing. Check out the entrance, the original, plus what else McAfee can do:

REVIEW: ECW One Night Stand 2005: This Is Fun

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
One Night Stand 2005
Date: June 12, 2019
Location: Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City, New York
Attendance: 2,500
Commentators: Joey Styles, Mick Foley
Oh boy this is a different one. So back in 2004, WWE put out an outstanding DVD about ECW called the Rise and Fall of ECW. It was one of the best looks back at a company that was certainly influential and had a heck of a cult following that you could ask for and made the fans want to see something more. Therefore, this show was born as a celebration of ECW’s histo..

WWE And FOX Have Huge Meeting, Here’s The Good And The Bad

They’re the bosses. WWE is a huge wrestling company but it has its own bosses to answer to. Some of the biggest are the networks that broadcast the company’s television shows, with NBC Universal on one side and FOX on the other. That can make for quite the balancing act, and it seems that one side is not quite happy with how WWE has been doing as of late.
Fightful Select has released a report on the relationship between WWE and FOX. Vince McMahon and WWE President Nick Khan met with FOX executives the night before Summerslam. According to Fightful’s sources, FOX is disappointed with SmackDown’s viewership, though it is understood that the majority of their relationship has taken place during the Coronavirus pandemic, making the numbers a bit harder to gauge.
On the other hand, FOX was happy with WWE stars appearing on FOX programming to promote Summerslam. FOX was also pleased that WWE brought Becky Lynch, John Cena and Brock Lesnar to SmackDown as a way to bring back interest now th..

WATCH: WWE Star Makes Return After Year Long Absence

Welcome home. With so many stars on the WWE roster, it can be hard to find something for all of them to do. WWE has a lot of television time available, but there are only so many places to put everyone. It can be even more frustrating when someone shows up and then disappears just as quickly. That was the case with a Monday Night Raw star, but he seems to have found a new home.
Riddick Moss returned to WWE television this week, appearing on SmackDown as Happy Corbin’s new associate. Corbin brought out Kevin Owens to be the guest on the first edition of his Happy Talk talk show, with Moss attacking Owens during his entrance. Moss has not been seen for over an entire year, last appearing on Raw Underground in 2020. He has been out of action with a torn ACL, but worked a dark match before last week’s SmackDown.
You might need a refresher. Check out Moss’ return and his time in WWE:

VIDEO: Former World Champion Makes Surprise AEW Debut

Welcome aboard? AEW has come a long way in a short amount of time and a lot of that is due to its roster. The company has put together a great balance of rookies, current stars and veterans, which has made for a great selection. It can always help to bring in someone else though, and that might have been the case this week as a former World Champion made his debut.
The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Rampage saw Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston team up to face Minoru Suzuki and Lance Archer. Near the end of the match, former Ring of Honor World Champion Homicide appeared and helped Moxley and Kingston win the match. There is no word on if this was a one off appearance or if Homicide will be sticking around. Homicide has been wrestling in Ring of Honor, and was half of the Tag Team Champions earlier this month.
Homicide would be a nice addition. Check out Homicide’s appearance and how good he can be:

WWE Teaming With MGM To Relaunch Classic Competition Series

It does kind of fit. There are very few forms of entertainment like professional wrestling. You have all of the different emotions that go into a show, but ultimately it is a bunch of muscular people in ridiculous outfits fighting each other in an over the top contest. That can make for some interesting moments, and now the biggest promotion in the world is branching out into something similar.
According to Dateline, WWE is partnering with MGM to relaunch American Gladiators, with a variety of WWE stars appearing on the show. The series a competition style show featuring a roster of athletes competing against contestants in athletic events, originally aired from 1989 – 1996 and was relaunched in 2008, with Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali as hosts. There is no word on when or where the show will air or which WWE names will be attached.
There are some names who could do quite well on this kind of a show. Check out some WWE stars who could fight right in:

AEW Rampage Results – September 24, 2021 (Grand Slam)

Rampage
Date: September 24, 2021
Location: Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium, New York City, New York
Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Ricky Starks
It’s the second half of AEW’s New York Adventures and that’s not a bad thing. This week’s Dynamite was huge and this is the biggest Rampage to date, clocking in at two hours instead of the usual one. I’m not sure what that is going to mean, but odds are it’s going to be fun. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
CM Punk vs. Powerhouse Hobbs Hook is here with Hobbs. Punk, in trunks for a change, goes after Hobbs to start but a single shot sends him down on the ropes. Hobbs plants him down and we hit the neck crank to keep Punk in trouble. Punk’s comeback includes a knee to the ribs but Hobbs runs him over again and seems to be toying with him so far. A running crotch attack on the ropes hits Punk and we take an early break.
Back with Punk fighting out of a bearhug and striking away, including a running shot to the face to put Hobbs down. The top rope..

AEW Star Off Television Due To Health Issues

That doesn’t sound good. There are all kinds of wrestlers in the world and some of them are in different stages of their careers. While you can find several in the ring at any given point, there are some who have long since retired from active competition. There is still a place for them in the industry, but one of the legends is now having some serious issues of his own.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Jake Roberts has been missing from AEW television due to health issues. While it is not clear exactly what is wrong, Roberts recently made an appearance at the Connecticut Horrorfest, where he was in a wheelchair and was using an oxygen tube. There is no word on when or if Roberts will return to AEW, where he has been managing Lance Archer.
Roberts has had a very nice run in AEW. Check out his time there, plus elsewhere:

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results – September 24, 2021

Smackdown
Date: September 24, 2021
Location: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee
It’s the go home show for Extreme Rules, which is mostly minus the extreme. The one stipulation confirmed so far has been Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor in an Extreme Rules match, though maybe we can get some more added this week. There is also an Intercontinental Title match scheduled so let’s get to it.
Here is Becky Lynch to get things going and we see a clip of her interrupting Bianca Belair’s homecoming last week. Becky talks about how much fun she had last week and wonders where her celebration is. She never lost the Women’s Title, then came back less than a year after having a child and won the title in record time. Last week, Becky tried to come out and offer Belair a handshake but she wouldn’t let go of Becky’s hand. What choice did she really have?
Becky wanted to give Belair time, but then she was goaded into a rematch at Extreme Rules, so what c..

Impact Wrestling Results – September 23, 2021

Impact Wrestling
Date: September 23, 2021
Location: Skyway Studios, Nashville, Tennessee
Commentators: D’Lo Brown, Matt Striker
We are a month away from Bound For Glory and it seems that we have a main event. At Victory Road, X-Division Champion Josh Alexander announced that he was using Option C to cash in his title for a shot at Christian Cage’s World Title. This has been teased for a few weeks now and is the absolute best idea that they have at the moment. Alexander feels unbeatable and that comes from months of putting in the effort. Let’s get to it.
Opening recap.
Opening sequence.
Here is Scott D’Amore to get things going. He explains Option C and brings out Josh Alexander, but reminds him that once he hands over the title, a tournament begins to crown a new champion. Therefore, make sure this is what you want. Alexander talks about having neck surgery six years ago and having doubts about his future. He has no doubts this time though, because he knows he can be the face of t..
