You never know when you might see someone get injured and be put on the shelf. Sometimes wrestlers need to get a piece of themselves fixed up and that seems to have taken place again.

AEW’s Griff Garrison has revealed that he underwent a surgery in North Carolina this week. Garrison did not reveal the nature of his injury or how long he expected to be on the shelf recovering. Garrison, 24 years old, has not wrestled since the October 21 edition of AEW Dark, though there is no word on if the surgery is related to his recent absence from the ring.

Out of her league? After a seven month ordeal, it seems that Sasha Banks’ time with WWE is about to come to an end. While there is always the chance that something could change at the last minute, Banks seems to be heading over to New Japan Pro Wrestling, ending her ten year tenure with the company. Now we might know an important detail that led to the two sides splitting.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of the issues involved the value of the contract Banks was looking to receive. Banks reportedly wanted a deal close to the same value as Charlotte and Becky Lynch, but was not being offered numbers near those. Internally, WWE is said to not believe that Banks, 30, will be a top star for the next five years. During her time in WWE, Banks headlined multiple pay per views, including the first night of WrestleMania 37.

One of the best is a mystery, as it gives the fans a reason to keep watching to see where things are going. However, there are also instances where the reveal is given very quickly, which was the situation this week as the mystery lasted about an hour.

The opening match of this week’s SmackDown saw Tegan Nox and Liv Morgan challenging Damage Ctrl for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Late in the match, a mystery woman in black attacked Nox, ultimately costing her team the match. Security took the mystery woman away and, in a digital exclusive, she was revealed as SmackDown star Xia Li. WWE executive Adam Pearce ordered her into his office to end the video.

We are just over a month away from the Royal Rumble and it’s time for a pretty big title match on the way there. This week will see Gunther defend the Intercontinental Title against World Cup winner Ricochet, which should make for a solid main event. Other than that, Roman Reigns is here so let’s get to it.

Women’s Tag Team Titles: Damage Ctrl vs. Liv Morgan/Tegan Nox Damage Ctrl, with Bayley, is defending. Nox takes over on Sky to start and hits a gordbuster, setting up a double suplex for a near fall. Morgan comes in and knocks Sky to the floor, where she gives chase with the kendo stick. Both champs are sent outside for the big dive from Nox and we take a break.

Over a long, distinguished career, Cena became the face of WWE and helped carry it for several years. While Cena has mainly moved on to Hollywood, his appearances still mean a lot. Cena said that he wanted to continue his twenty year streak of having at least one match in WWE alive. We are less than a month away from Hard To Kill and the title situations are rather interesting. We have the Major Brothers coming after the Tag Team Titles, Jordynne Grace vs. Mickie James set for a title vs. career match and Josh Alexander defending against Bully Ray. Eddie Edwards vs. Delirious This was going to be last week’s main event but then Josh Alexander vs. Mike Bailey almost hit an hour so it was punted to this week. They go technical to start and that’s good for a standoff. Edwards can’t grab an O’Connor roll but he can chop Delirious down, only to have Delirious come back up with a leg lariat.

Last week on Dynamite, MJF and Ricky Starks had a match that tore the house down. The storytelling was fantastic, the action was great, and the build up leading into the match made me very emotionally interested to see what was going to happen. This was Starks’ breakout match, and I hope it leads to him being a main event player in AEW for a long time.
However, as I was watching the show the last week, I realized something very, very important. And it’s something that could be the foundation for how AEW operates in the future.
In my opinion, the future of AEW does not involve ex-WWE talent, but rather the stars it is creating on its own.
I’ve said for a long time that Tony Khan has relied too much on talent from other promotions that were either released, or decided to leave, because they thought the grass would be greener on the other side. Sasha Banks is currently set to debut with New Japan Pro Wrestling at the January 4 Wrestle Kingdom 17 event. A report earlier this week said that she would be making $100,000 per appearance, which was said to be more than Chris Jericho made for his appearances with the company. Jericho has since responded to the rumor, saying that he never had a flat appearance deal and was paid according to the event. In addition, Jericho said that he made more per event than he made for “MOST of my Wrestlemania matches”. Jericho wrestled six matches with New Japan from 2018-2020.

Run it back? WWE has been undergoing a lot of changes in the last few months and those changes seem to be continuing for the time being. This includes some things that might have been prominent in NXT but are only starting to make their main roster debuts.
