More On WWE Airing Hell In A Cell Match On SmackDown

Call it a scheduling curiosity. WWE is ready to present its annual Hell In A Cell pay per view event, which will of course be centered around shows taking place inside the show’s namesake structure. That makes for some major matches to take place in the Cell, but this year featured a twist as Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio met in the Cell on the SmackDown before the pay per view. Now we know a bit more about the change.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the idea behind moving the match was to have it available to as many viewers as possible, hence moving it to SmackDown on FOX. The match took place as it would have at the pay per view and Reigns is not expected to wrestle at the show. The move was not seen as a big deal and now Bianca Belair defending the SmackDown Women’s Title against Bayley will take place inside the Cell as a replacement match.
It was a heck of a fight. Check out how the match went down, plus how we got there:

NXT Stars Work SmackDown Dark Matches, In Line For Possible Callups

You have to start somewhere. NXT is a rather unique kind of promotion, as it serves as both the official developmental territory for WWE but it is also the third brand. That means stars coming up from NXT to the main roster are probably going to have been seen more than a few times. Now we might know who the next big name coming up from NXT might be.
According to PWInsider.com, both Karrion Kross and Bronson Reed worked dark matches before this week’s SmackDown, with Kross facing Dolph Ziggler and Reed facing Robert Roode. This is being done before the next WWE Draft in September, when more talents could be called up. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Kross is expected to be moved up to the main roster, which was expected from the day that he was signed to WWE. It is not clear if WWE is expected to call Reed up as well.
Kross was signed to WWE in 2020 and became the NXT Champion by defeating Keith Lee at Takeover: XXX in August. He was forced to vacate the title the following da..

Major Update On Becky Lynch’s Return To WWE

I’m sure there is a place for her. The WWE Women’s Revolution changed everything about women’s wrestling in America and in a rather positive way. After spending years as little more than a side attraction or eye candy, female wrestlers were suddenly being featured and even headlining pay per views. This included WrestleMania 35 in the biggest women’s match of all time. Now we might be seeing one of the participants back soon.
According to PWInsider.com, former Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was back at the Performance Center this week training in the ring, including working in the ring with Indi Hartwell. According to Fightful Select, Lynch was said to look “jacked” and “like she never left” while training. Lynch has not wrestled since WrestleMania 36 as she took time away for maternity leave and gave birth to her daughter, Roux, in December. There is no word on when Lynch will be returning to WWE television.
They could use her. Check out what Lynch can do for WWE:

Hell In A Cell 2021 Preview, Predictions and Thoughts

The calendar has been changed around a bit this year so the October show is now in June and the show’s namesake match took place on the Smackdown before the show because….I’m assuming a ratings ploy. We still have two matches inside the Cell for Sunday though, because having three of them in about seventy two hours is perfectly acceptable. Let’s get to it.
Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn The eternal feud continues as these two somehow aren’t inside the Cell, despite it being something that would make sense. Owens has been banged up by Commander Azeez as of late and Zayn thinks it’s pretty funny so of course it’s time for these two to fight again. Granted I’m not sure if they needed that much thought put into it, as these two could probably have a fight over a stale sandwich.
We’ve seen this before:

For once I’ll take Zayn to win here, as he lost at Wrestlemania and Owens is coming in banged up after Friday. Owens would seem to be a likely challen..

Bray Wyatt Advertised For Return To Monday Night Raw

Welcome back. There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster today and it can be difficult to make someone stand out. Every now and then you see someone who gets your attention in a hurry though and it can be a lot of fun to watch them no matter what they are doing. That makes it all the more frustrating when they are off of television, but we might be getting one of them back.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, the Fiend Bray Wyatt is advertised for the August 9 Monday Night Raw in Orlando, Florida. Wyatt has not appeared since the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 37 in April, when he said he needed to take some time away. There is no word on why Wyatt has been off of television and it is possible that he will return prior to August 9.
The Fiend is advertised for the August 9 Raw.
Edge is advertised for the September 3 Smackdown. Both from on sale ticketing promo material.

Tony Khan Discusses The Origins of AEW, AEW Grand Slam, More

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan was recently a guest on ESPN’s SportsNation where he discussed a number of topics. These included the origins of AEW, the company’s upcoming show in New York this September, the hiring of Jacksonville Jaguars’ new head coach, Urban Meyer and more.
You can see the interview in its entirety below:

The interview began with Khan stating how
On the origins of AEW:
“I’ve been a wrestling fan my whole life and sometimes when you’re in the moment, something strikes you. I was actually at a party in Beverly Hills with a good friend of mine and a mutual friend of ours, who was the president of TNT and TBS was at the same party and I saw him and sometimes you just get a lightbulb idea to talk to him about starting a wrestling company. That was April 2018 and a little over 3 years later, the show is the No. 1 show on Wednesday nights. With dynamite and AEW, it’s a lifelong goal for me personally, but really I never kne..

WATCH: Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton From Hell in a Cell 2020

The show must go on. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship from the 2020 Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, inside the structure of the same name.
You can see the match in its entirety below:
[This post contains video, click to play]

From WWE.com:
Orton ambushed The King of Claymore Country, dressing as a member of the stage crew and attacking him from behind before the match started. But McIntyre, all too familiar with Orton’s ploys by now, seemed prepared and quickly collected himself before using the cage to his advantage early in his first-ever Hell in a Cell Match.
Cracking Orton across the back with a steel chair and blasting him with steel steps, McIntyre showed he was more than willing to match The Legend Killer’s renowned sadism. But an early Claymore attempt backfired, and Orton unleashed an assault of his own with a chair, wedging it into McIntyre’s previously fractu..

Another WrestleMania Rematch Set For Hell In A Cell

The card continues to grow. We are less than two days away from WWE’s next pay per view with Hell In A Cell. The show is centered around the namesakes structure but there is a little bit more to the card than that. In addition to the matches taking place inside the Cell, there is also a collection of matches to fill out the show. WWE has added another match to the card.
This week on SmackDown, WWE confirmed that Seth Rollins will face Cesaro at Hell In A Cell. The match has been teased for several weeks now, with Rollins attacking Cesaro to put him out of action. Cesaro returned last week and attacked Rollins while also ripping off his suit. The match was announced this week, with Cesaro shoving Rollins down during a backstage interview. Cesaro previously defeated Rollins at WrestleMania 37 in April.
The two have been feuding for a long time now. Check out how we got here:

WWE May Be Cross Promoting With The NFL And NASCAR

They have some other ideas. One of the best ways to draw up some interest in anything related to wrestling is to add a gimmick of some kind. It might be to a wrestler or a match, but sometimes it is to a complete show. That can make for some interesting events, some of which are often better than others. Now we might have an idea of what we could be seeing in the near future.
According to Fightful Select, FOX and USA/NBC are pushing for WWE to present more themed events. This would include ideas such as a World Cup of Wrestling, featuring wrestlers from all three of WWE’s rosters and a points month, where a wrestler would receive points for things like using signature moves, winning matches, or various other things. Also, NBC is pushing the idea of more crossover events, such as tie-in with NASCAR or Sunday Night Football, such as a football themed show. There is no word on when or if WWE will run a show like this.
WWE has done some things like this before. Check out some of their ot..

REVIEW: Armageddon 2005: Undertaker In The Cell

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Armageddon 2005
Date: December 18, 2005

Attendance: 8,000

We’re almost done with the year and we’ll wrap it up inside the Cell with Undertaker vs. Randy Orton in the final blowoff. Other than that, it’s the Raw Tag Team Champions vs. the Smackdown Tag Team Champions as Big Show/Kane face Rey Mysterio and Batista. I think you can tell they’re wrapping the year up with that second big match. Let’s get to it.

WWE Has Some Brand New Royalty (And Someone Cried)

The one true king. There are a lot of titles in wrestling these days and some of them are a lot more prestigious than others. Sometimes things can be made even more confusing when you factor in unofficial titles, which can also be defended despite not officially counting. That was the case again this week, and now someone has something new to wrap around their head.
This week on SmackDown, Shinsuke Nakamura defeated King Corbin to become the One True King of WWE in a match billed as the Battle For The Crown. The match was the fifth between the two in six weeks with Nakamura winning the series 3-2. As a result, Nakamura gets to keep Corbin’s crown. Nakamura was crowned King after the match as Corbin cried. It is not clear if the crown will be defended going forward or if Corbin will still be referred to as King Corbin, a title he has held since September 2019.
WWE previously had an unofficial King’s Crown title in the 1980s, with names such as Harley Race, Jim Duggan, Haku and Randy S..

AEW Dynamite Results – June 18, 2021

Dynamite
Date: June 18, 2021
Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida
Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Excalibur, Jim Ross, Taz
The Friday series continues with a special match inside an MMA cage. That may or may not be your taste, but it is certainly something different, which you have to do at some point. This time around it is Jake Hager vs. Wardlow, which is about as logical of a move as you can get. Let’s get to it.
Jake Hager vs. Wardlow Chris Jericho and Shawn Spears are the seconds here and it is a full octagon, complete with cage. Wardlow makes sure to turn his back on Hager during the intros, just to show off a bit more. We have three five minute rounds here and you can only win by submission or knockout (no judges).
They circle each other for a bit to start until Hager starts going with the striking. Wardlow doesn’t seem to know what to do with him here as Hager hits a few shots and then walks off to let Wardlow think about it. Hager’s attempt at a double leg gets him ..
