REVIEW: Survivor Series 2013: The Dark Ages

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Survivor Series 2013
Date: November 24, 2013
Location: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
Attendance: 13,500
Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, John Bradshaw Layfield
It’s the final show before the 2014 edition and for the most part I have no idea what happens here. If I remember right it’s something about Orton and then Reigns destroying a bunch of people. It kind of amazes me how easy the last year is to forget while I could snap off the main event of almost every PPV 2005 or so. Let’s get to it.

You Might Not Be Seeing Kenny Omega For A Good While

It might be a bit. Injuries are one of the few universals in the wrestling world. No matter how experienced or talented a wrestler may be, there is always the chance that they are going to suffer some sort of an injury. It might come all at once or be built up over time, but it is always a possibility. That is the case in for a rather prominent star, and he might be gone for awhile.
According to PWInsider.com, former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega may be missing an extended period of time due to injuries. Omega is likely to undergo shoulder surgery and there is no word on how long he will be out, assuming he does undergo the procedure. Omega lost the AEW World Title to Hangman Page in the main event of last weekend’s Full Gear pay per view.
AEW would miss Omega if he has to go away. Check out what he can do while he is around:

RUMOR KILLER On AEW’s Women’s Division Being Limited

That’s a different take for AEW. The Women’s Revolution has changed the way women’s wrestling works in a very positive way. After years of women’s wrestling having next to no value whatsoever, it is now treated as something with value throughout the wrestling world. It is fascinating to see how far it has come, but what if someone with some more pull does not like it as much?
Fightful Select has an update on WarnerMedia’s, the parent company of TNT and TBS, stance on women’s wrestling on AEW television. Last year, a rumor began circulating that WarnerMedia had only allowed one women’s match on any show on their networks. According to Fightful Select, there was no such rule ever handed down and there was no request or suggestion about less women’s wrestling to AEW. All that WarnerMedia cares about is “good content” and having high social or TV ratings.

WWE Star Lands Regular Role On ABC Series

It’s a bonus. Wrestlers are a lot of things, but to outsiders, they are often called actors who are pretending to do a lot of things on any given show. Somehow that rarely turns into success in the acting world, though every now and then you see someone getting a chance to show what they can do in Hollywood. Now it seems that we will be seeing that again with a prominent WWE star.
Former WWE Champion and current SmackDown star Jinder Mahal has announced that he will be appearing as a regular character on ABC’s series Big Sky. The show airs every Thursday night at 10pm EST, with Mahal playing a character named Dhruv. Mahal’s first appearance will be on November 18 and he says he will be appearing on the show every week.
The Maharaja has joined the cast of @BigSkyABC season 2 as Dhruv. Starting Tomorrow and every Thurs at 10/9C PM on @ABCNetwork and @hulu. #bigskyabc pic.twitter.com/ptarZWqkXm

It’s time for the big patriotic show, which is actually taking place closer to Thanksgiving this time around instead of the usual Christmas season. This one is airing on FOX to make it feel even bigger, though it is just a one hour edition which was taped last month at Smackdown. In other words, they don’t seem to be putting in as much effort this year. Let’s get to it.

Big E. vs. Dolph Ziggler Non-title and commentary does give a brief recap of their history. Robert Roode is here with Ziggler and dig those red, white and blue ropes. Big E. powers out of a waistlock to start and sends Ziggler flying, setting up some gyrations. A kick to the ribs slows Big E. down and Ziggler gyrates a bit as well. That just earns him the abdominal stretch with rhythmic shots..

Monday Night Raw Might Be Getting Two New NXT Callups

That’s kind of the point. NXT is one of the most unique wrestling shows in the world, as it is not only its own show but also the official developmental territory for WWE. There are only so many things that a wrestler can do there without being ready to be called up to the main roster. That can make for some interesting moments, as a promotion can make for a rather special moment. Now we might be seeing some new promotions.
Two NXT names seem to have been called up to the main roster. Referee Aja Smith has appeared on Monday Night Raw in recent weeks, including refereeing this week’s match between Bianca Belair and Tamina. In addition, backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell has posted a photo to Twitter, showing her backstage at Monday Night Raw. There is no word on if these callups are permanent or just tryouts.

Redditors Share Their Very “Worst” Ideas For WWE/AEW And It’s Hilarious

Say that again? Wrestling has a long history of outlandish ideas, including Robocop making an appearance, a walking/dancing turkey and a beer swilling redneck from Texas who fancied beating up his boss.
Sometimes the zaniest ideas can come from the fans themselves. Redditor u/anonymouspotatoskins recently asked, “What’s the worst idea you’ve had lately but too afraid to share?” Commentors weighed in and thousands of fans upvoted their favorite of the “worst” ideas.
Brock Lesnar Channels His Inner IRS IMG Credit: WWE There may be no one more intimidating in the wrestling world than Brock Lesnar. The Beast Incarnate has destroyed almost everyone he has come into contact with over the years, mainly as other worldly strong former amateur wrestling champion. That has worked very well, but what if he had another interest?
Lesnar has a reputation of being out to make as much money as possible, and Redditor Tom_Dynamite would like to see that get a sharper focus. He suggests, “Brock becomes..

WATCH: Popular Star Gets Major Change To His Look

That’s a big change. A wrestler’s look is one of the most important parts of their entire presentation. You can get a lot of people’s attention by having someone look so different that they can’t turn away. That can be a good or a bad thing, but having someone change their look can be rather jarring. That was the case this week, and it wasn’t exactly something positive.
This week’s edition of NXT included a poker showdown between Duke Hudson and Cameron Grimes. After Hudson lost the game when Grimes bluffed him, he attacked Grimes and pulled out a pair of scissors. Hudson cut Grimes’ beard and hair, which comes after rumors of Grimes getting a new look from a few weeks ago. There is no word on if Grimes’ look will be changed again.
It was a big change. Check out what happened, plus some of Grimes’ better moments:

AEW Full Gear Finish Changed Due To Injury, Possible Heat On Wrestler

They might have a point. There are so many things going on at a wrestling show that it can be hard to keep track of everything. This includes during every match, as some of them are a lot faster pace than others. One constant throughout the matches though is the possibility of someone getting hurt. That was the case over the weekend and it has landed someone in some hot water.
Last weekend’s AEW Full Gear event featured a match between the Lucha Bros and FTR. About ten minutes into the match, Dax Harwood was legitimately knocked out by Rey Fenix, leaving Cash Wheeler to face the Lucha Bros on his own. According to Fightful Select, some of the AEW locker room is not happy with Fenix for failing to check on Harwood after the match, as it is considered common courtesy. There is no word on how bad Harwood may be hurt, though there is also nothing to suggest he will miss ring time. The ending to the match was also changed, as Harwood was supposed to be involved as part of the illegal man b..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE TV Show May Be Returning To TV-14

Like the old days? NXT has been changed in a big way over the last few months and that very well may continue to be the case. The roster is almost unrecognizable since its relaunch in September and there is nothing to suggest that WWE is done shaking it up. However, we might even be in for another huge shakeup, which some fans have been wanting to see for a long time now.
According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, the original plan for the NXT 2.0 relaunch would have called for NXT to switch from TV-PG to TV-14. There is still a chance that this could happen in the future as the USA Network has signed off on the idea. However, it is not clear if WWE wants to go through with the change. If they decide to do so, it is not clear when the change would be or how long it would take.
Within the origins of this NXT 2.0 concept was an idea that the programs rating would shift from TV-PG to TV-14. Source confirms that’s still very much on the table and USA Network is not opposed. If / when..

WATCH: We Have Most Of A WarGames Match

That would be a big one. We are on the way to the next big NXT event with WarGames on December 5. While it is not a Takeover event, it seems it will be having all makings of one of them. This includes theshow’s namesake match, which could make for some interesting changes. The NXT roster has been decimated by changes and injuries but now we might know something big on the horizon.
This week’s NXT featured a main event of Dakota Kai vs. Raquel Gonzalez. When Gonzalez seemed to have the match won, Toxic Attraction interfered to cause the disqualification. This led to Cora Jade and Io Shirai making the save. After the ring was cleared, Shirai issued the challenge for a WarGames match, though it has yet to be made official. There is no word on who would team with Shirai and Gonzalez.
This was a big moment. Check out the brawl plus what WarGames looks like:

We’re back to whatever NXT has become but this time it’s all about WarGames. Somehow NXT thinks they have a matchup that will work there, though I’m almost scared to know who is going to be included. Maybe we find that out tonight, plus get what should be an obvious setup for Breakker vs. Ciampa II. Let’s get to it.
Tony D’Angelo vs. Dexter Lumis Fallout from D’Angelo suggesting Lumis was about to get whacked. Lumis has a drawing for D’Angelo, showing him asleep in a school of fish. D’Angelo bails away to start and gets caught with a Thesz press. Back up and D’Angelo gets in a few shots of his own to take over and we hit the chinlock. Lumis fights up again but D’Angelo snaps his throat across the top. With Lumis staggered, D’Angelo grabs the easel the drawing is sitting on, which is quickly taken away. That’s all D’Angelo needs as he pokes Lumis in the..
