So maybe not? One of the biggest wrestling stories over the last year has been the return of several former WWE stars. After multiple years of mass releases, a bunch of the former WWE wrestlers have been brought back into the company. These returning stars have had varying levels of success but now we know a little more about their internal reception with possibly the most important person around. They Got It: WWE Went To Extreme Lengths For Royal Rumble Surprise

That’s some secret keeping. Wrestling receives a lot of criticism for being planned in advance. There is some truth to that, but at the same time, there is a lot of work and effort that goes into making fans believe that what they are seeing is at least somewhat realistic. Every so often you see a genuine response in wrestling though and that was double the case this weekend. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: Popular AEW Star Backstage At WWE Royal Rumble Last Saturday, WWE presented its annual Royal Rumble event. The show opened with the surprise return of Pat McAfee to the commentary team, ending a four month hiatus. According to PWInsider.com, WWE made McAfee’s return as much of a surprise as possible, with co-commentators Michael Cole and Corey Graves having no idea he would be back. There was also a “quick scramble” to get McAfee a chair and headset. It is currently unknown if McAfee’s return is full time or just for the Royal Rumble. It was a big night. Two Times: Injured WWE Star Forced To Undergo Second Surgery During Recovery

Yes again. Injuries are one of the most complicated things in wrestling as you never know when someone is going to be put on the shelf for any amount of time. The injuries can result in a long recovery time and some of them often have complications on top of that. Unfortunately that is the case again as a WWE star who was already on the shelf had to deal with another issue. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He Has To Pass: WWE Legend Announces He Will Not Be At Raw XXX Despite Being Rumored Back in November, R-Truth injured his knee during a match in NXT. R-Truth recently participated in a live stream, revealing that he had to undergo a second surgery due to an infection. While R-Truth said that the second surgery set him back, he expects to be back in the ring sooner than expected. Opinion: AEW’s Future Should NOT Involve ex-WWE Talent

Last week on Dynamite, MJF and Ricky Starks had a match that tore the house down. The storytelling was fantastic, the action was great, and the build up leading into the match made me very emotionally interested to see what was going to happen. This was Starks’ breakout match, and I hope it leads to him being a main event player in AEW for a long time. However, as I was watching the show the last week, I realized something very, very important. And it’s something that could be the foundation for how AEW operates in the future. In my opinion, the future of AEW does not involve ex-WWE talent, but rather the stars it is creating on its own. I’ve said for a long time that Tony Khan has relied too much on talent from other promotions that were either released, or decided to leave, because they thought the grass would be greener on the other side. R-Truth Suffers Torn Quad, Needs Surgery

You hate to see it. It had been previously reported that R-Truth had potentially suffered an injury during a match with Grayson Waller on the November 1 episode of NXT. Unfortunately, the news is as bad as was suspected. Truth took to Twitter today to confirm that he had, in fact, suffered a torn quad and that it would require surgery to be repaired.
