That’s worth celebrating. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster and they portray several different characters. Watching any given WWE show offers a big mixture of different looks, styles and personae, but it can be fascinating to see them mix together. One thing they all have in common is that they do other things once the cameras stop rolling, which was the case in a big way recently. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Vince McMahon Pushed WrestleMania 39 Match Onto Card As shown in a series of photos on Instagram, WWE Superstar Solo Sikoa has announced that he got married over the weekend. They needed to do that. We are less than two weeks away from AEW Revolution and that is going to be a big night. AEW only runs four regular pay per view events in any given year so they have to make the most they can out of every show. The company knows how to stack their cards with a bunch of big matches and they moved closer to doing that this week, with more matches being added. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He Did It: Jon Moxley Is First To Reach Major AEW Milestone Two more matches were added to the Revolution card during this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. First, Ricky Starks issued an open contract for a match at Revolution and talked Chris Jericho into facing him in a rematch. Jericho also agreed that the Jericho Appreciation Society will be banned from ringside. Second, AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter agreed to defend her title in a three way match against Saraya and Ruby Soho, both of whom have wanted title shots. There is no word on how many more matches will be added to the s..
That would have been a tribute. There are certain images in wrestling that are absolutely iconic no matter how you look at them. These are the shots that you have seen for years and will continue to see for years to come, as they were some kind of a game changer in wrestling. Occasionally you will see someone pay tribute to such a moment, which was almost the case again recently. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They’re Next: WWE Discusses Bringing Back Two Former Champions During a recent interview with Metro, Ricochet revealed that he was attempting to recreate the classic Steve Austin bleeding visual from WrestleMania 13. Ricochet was busted open on the December 23 SmackDown and attempted to make himself look like Austin in the match. As a result of the cut though, medics came to the ring and wiped away the blood, despite Ricochet’s protests. It would have been different. Check out the original and how Ricochet tried to recreate it, plus some classic Austin: [This post contains video, cli..
That’s one way to do it. Title shots can make for some of the most important matches in any wrestling promotion. The chance to have a new champion crowned means that something might be changing soon and that can make things all the more interesting. It means a lot when someone gets such a shot and now several wrestlers have the chance to earn one. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Triple H And Stephanie McMahon Opposed WWE Sale This week on SmackDown, WWE executive Adam Pearce announced the launch of a new tournament to crown #1 contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. The only detail announced for the tournament is that Drew McIntyre and Sheamus will face the Viking Raiders in the first round next week. There is no word on how many teams will be involved, brackets or the date of the title match. There is some talent involved. Check out the three teams in the whole situation so far: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..
That’s pretty awesome. There are all kinds of people in the wrestling world and all of them have lives going on outside of the ring that we rarely see. They have the same kind of lives that we do, including some things that can be rather positive to hear. Now another WWE personality has some more great news and is sharing his family’s announcement with the world. WWE broadcaster Pat McAfee and his wife Samantha have announced that they are expecting their first child in may. Samantha revealed that she has lost two pregnancies in the past and this one was conceived via IVF. Pat thanked everyone who has helped them through the rough times to get to this point, including friends and family. Pat is currently on hiatus from his job as SmackDown commentator and is expected back after college football season ends. After about 150 shots, a surgery, a transfer, countless blood tests, waiting on embryos, genetic testing, hoping for a big fat positive on a pee stick. So much support from family..
There it goes. WWE offers several annual traditions, many of which involve championships and shots at them. There are ways to earn a guaranteed title shot at some point down the line, but there is one that lets the challenger choose their shot whenever the feel like it. That was the case this week, but it was in a completely different way than it has ever been done before. This week on Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins issued an open challenge for a shot at the United States Title. Before the match, Bobby Lashley came to the ring and attacked Rollins, putting him through the announcers’ table. Mr. Money In The Bank Austin Theory came to the ring and cashed in his briefcase for a title shot against Rollins. Theory went on to lose the title shot after Lashley interfered. This marked the first time the briefcase has ever been used for anything but a World Title shot. Opinion: It was very different, but I like the idea a lot. There was little reason to believe that Theory was going to win t..
That’s just awesome. There are a lot of ways to film a wrestling match and some of the best involve making the fans feel like they are right there watching things live. It is difficult to figure out how to make it work that well, but every so often you get a special moment that is a lot closer than anything else. That was the case this week in one of the coolest shots you will ever see. The main event of WWE Crown Jewel 2022 saw Logan Paul unsuccessfully challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. During the match, Paul laid Reigns on the announcers’ table and hit a frog splash to drive him through it. However, before he dove, Paul picked up a phone and filmed himself diving, with the clip having now been posted online. You don’t see this every day. Check out Paul’s video: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you do not get to see very often and it is absolutely awesome. Getting to see Paul crash down onto Reigns from ..
NXT LVL Up Date: October 28, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Byron Saxton And here we go again, with more of the same batch of people having matches against each other over and over. There are very few people who can rise up the ranks (or Level/LVL Up if you will), save for maybe Miles Borne in the last few weeks. Maybe that ride continues this week so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Stacks vs. Tank Ledger Tony D’Angelo is on commentary. Stacks bounces off of the bigger Ledger to start and it’s time to crank on the arm. Ledger runs him over with a shoulder and a slam sends Stacks outside. A kick to the face drops Ledger on the floor as D’Angelo invites Saxton to dinner next weekend. The chinlock doesn’t work very well for Stacks and the comeback is on including a running crossbody for two. Stacks is right back with some running shots to the face, setting up a running elbow drop for the pin at 5:41. Result: Stacks b. Tank Ledger ..
She has a point. There is a lot that goes into being a professional wrestler and some of the more difficult aspects are often taken for granted. Unfortunately sometimes these aspects can be turned into negative situations that see the wrestlers treated far worse than they deserve. That has happened again and this time a WWE star is not taking any more of what she is hearing. Monday Night Raw’s Alexa Bliss recently spoke with Metro about the issues of dealing with negative fan reactions online. Bliss talked about the comments that she and fellow wrestlers receive after going out and trying to do their jobs while nowhere near 100%. In addition, Bliss said that taking shots at the wrestlers themselves rather than their characters was over the line. Here are some of Bliss’ comments: On Fans Trolling Wrestlers “I feel like a lot of people don’t really understand – nine times out of 10 when you see us performing, we are going on no sleep, we are going on beat up bodies because we do trave..
NXT Date: October 25, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T. We’re fresh off of Halloween Havoc and that means not much has really changed. The only new champion crowned was Wes Lee, who won the vacant North American Title. In other words, pretty much everyone should be on to something new as we are coming up on Deadline in about six weeks. We do have a pair of Tag Team Title matches though, which feel like matches that they just couldn’t fit on Halloween Havoc. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Halloween Havoc. Women’s Tag Team Titles: Kayden Carter/Katana Chance vs. Zoey Stark/Nikkita Lyons Stark and Lyons are challenging. Carter and Lyons start, with the latter busting out some splits. Stark comes in for a chinlock which doesn’t work very well, allowing Carter to kick her away. Chance slingshots in with a flipping splash for two but a headscissors gets Stark out of trouble. Lyons comes in and works on Chance’s back unt..
That could be a long one. There are all kinds of ways to write a wrestler off the shelf for more than a little while. One of the easiest ways is to have a wrestler suffer a storyline injury, which can get rid of a wrestler for about as long as you need. That was the situation this week as a SmackDown star was written off of television for what seems to be a pretty long time. The opening match of this week’s SmackDown saw Solo Sikoa defeat Sheamus. Following the match, the Usos helped Sikoa crush Sheamus’ arm and elbow with a series of chair shots. During the show, commentary announced that Sheamus was taken to a hospital. After the show was over, WWE sent out a tweet, announcing that Sheamus has suffered a non-displaced fracture near his elbow. There is no word on when Sheamus will be returning to the ring. BREAKING: Due to the attack earlier tonight by #TheBloodline, @WWESheamus has a non-displaced fracture near his elbow and is still under observation. #SmackDown — WWE (@WWE) Octo..
Dynamite Date: September 21, 2022 Location: Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York City, New York Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Excalibur, Taz It’s probably the biggest Dynamite of the year as we are in a stadium for Grand Slam. As expected, the show is going to be a huge one with a World Title match between Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley for the vacant championship. Other than that, Swerve In Our Glory is defending the Tag Team Titles against the Acclaimed in an All Out rematch. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Ring Of Honor World Title: Chris Jericho vs. Claudio Castagnoli Castagnoli is defending and starts fast by gorilla pressing Jericho onto the top rope. A big boot knocks Jericho outside and Castagnoli follows him, only to have Jericho hide behind former Ring Of Honor owner Cary Silkin. That’s enough for Jericho to get in some cheap shots to stagger Castagnoli but he’s right back with the uppercuts back inside. They fight to the apron and fight over a suplex before forearming it out ..
NXT LVL Up Date: July 29, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Nigel McGuinness We’re fresh into the non-Vince McMahon era and that gives me a bit of hope that we might be in for something different around here. Then again those changes might not take place for a good while as WWE has more than enough to take care of with, you know, the company being all over the place. Maybe we can get a little something this week though. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Javier Bernal vs. Myles Borne They shake hands to start and it’s Borne taking him to the mat without much trouble. Borne does it again but grabs an armbar this time to mix it up a little. For some reason he lets it go so Bernal grabs a hammerlock, which is quickly tossed to the floor. Back in and Bernal goes with some shots to the face before grabbing a chinlock. Borne fights up and gets kicked in the face, setting up another chinlock. That’s broken up and Borne grabs a suplex, only t..
Money talks. Celebrities have a long history of being involved in wrestling and it makes a lot of sense. Fans are interested in seeing what someone from outside the wrestling world can do there and it can make for some interesting results. That is the case again in WWE with a new signee, and it turns out that the new star has a bit more authority than most regular wrestlers. Last week, social media star Logan Paul officially signed with WWE. During his signing, Paul cut a promo on the Miz, promising that he was coming for him. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is because Paul is reportedly “calling the shots” with WWE and wants to be presented as the hero in the story. The two are expected to face off at Summerslam following Miz attacking Paul at WrestleMania 38. Opinion: This is one of those things that you do not get to see very often but it does make some sense. Paul is a star and someone who does not need WWE to be seen as a big deal. It makes sense for WWE to let him h..
Dynamite Date: June 29, 2022 Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone It’s another major show here as we go from Forbidden Door on Sunday to Blood & Guts tonight. That would be AEW’s version of WarGames, albeit with twelve people this time as the match needs to be bigger, but it does look good on paper. Other than that, I’m not sure what else we have as so much has been put into the New Japan stuff for the last few weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Ethan Page vs. Orange Cassidy Before the match, Dan Lambert complains about the Best Friends being here because they aren’t official managers and we have regulations in his state. Oh and Cassidy is skinny and has no muscles whatsoever. Page starts fast and knocks him down but Cassidy nips up and grabs an armdrag to the floor. There’s the suicide dive, followed by the high crossbody for one back inside. Page is back up with some shots of his own and Cassidy gets knocked into the..
Forbidden Door Date: June 26, 2022 Location: United Center, Chicago, Illinois Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone It’s a special show as we have a host of international guest stars from New Japan coming in for a bunch of big time matches. The main event is for the Interim AEW World Title as CM Punk being stripped of the title was off the table. Other than that, we have a series of title matches which should make for a great show. Let’s get to it. Buy-In: Hirooki Goto/Yoshi-Hashi vs. QT Marshall/Aaron Solo Solo and Hashi start things off with Hashi working on a headlock. A running shoulder drops Solo again so it’s off to Marshall vs. Goto, with the latter knocking Marshall around without much trouble. Solo comes back in and cheap shots Hashi though, allowing Marshall to get in a cheap shot on Goto. That lasts all of a few seconds before the big beatdown is on to put Solo back in trouble. Everything breaks down and Marshall’s cartwheel tumbling dive drops Goto and Hashi. ..
Monday Night Raw Date: June 20, 2022 Location: Pinnacle Bank Arena, Lincoln, Nebraska Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton We are less than two weeks away from Money in the Bank and that means we are probably in for some qualifying matches. Those can make for some interesting showdowns, though I’m not sure I would get my hopes up for that around here. On top of that, Riddle gets to deal with the fallout of losing to Roman Reigns on Smackdown. Let’s get to it. In Memory Of Tim White. Here is Bianca Belair for a chat. After getting in her catchphrases, she says that the match with Rhea Ripley isn’t happening….for now. So who gets the title shot at Money in the Bank instead? Tonight we have five women competing, in the form of Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Carmella, Asuka and Becky Lynch, in a fatal five way match to see who gets the shot. All five competitors come out one by one to say they should get the title shot while also taking shots at each other. Belair says she is..
Dynamite Date: June 15, 2022 Location: Chaifetz Arena, St. Louis, Missouri Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone The road to Forbidden Door continues and as has been the case with AEW in recent weeks, things have gotten a little bit screwy. This time around it is Jeff Hardy getting arrested for driving under the influence, meaning that he will not be around for this week’s Tag Team Title match. Hopefully this doesn’t throw the show into chaos so let’s get to it. Chris Jericho vs. Ortiz Hair vs. hair, the Jericho Appreciation Society and Eddie Kingston are here, and William Regal is on commentary. Ortiz charges in and knocks Jericho to the floor for some biting of the face. Jericho takes over outside and hammers away inside, only to have Ortiz get in some shots of his own. The suicide dive is broken up though and Jericho hits a suplex off the apron to the floor as we take a break. Back with Ortiz clotheslining his way out of trouble and hitting a quick cutter. Jericho rol..
Dynamite Date: May 25, 2022 Location: Michelob Ultra Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone It’s Double Or Nothing weekend and that means it is time to get in the last Dynamite before the pay per view. That means it is time to find out who will be in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments, which should make for some interesting matches for the pay per view. It’s also the third anniversary of the first AEW show so this should be good. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Wardlow vs. Shawn Spears In a cage with MJF as the referee and Wardlow has to win here to get MJF on Sunday. Wardlow is still handcuffed to start so Spears gets in a few shots, allowing MJF to stomp away in the corner. The double teaming is on, including sending Wardlow into the steps. MJF stops to talk too much trash though and gets hit in the face, allowing Wardlow to drop Spears. The Swanton connects but MJF won’t count, allowing Spears to get up. One heck of a chair ..
