It can happen to anyone. You never want to see a wrestler get hurt but it is something that can happen to anyone at any given time. Wrestlers can go from on a roll to having to sit on the sidelines while they heal up. At the same time, you can also have someone get hurt without even noticing it at the same time. That seems to be the case again, as a WWE star is on the injured list. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Gotcha: Surprise Heel Turn Takes Place At AEW Revolution Last week on Monday Night Raw, Candice LeRae defeated Piper Niven in a match. Following the show, Niven attacked LeRae during a backstage interview and laid her out. This week on Monday Night Raw, it was announced that LeRae had suffered a sprained AC joint in her right shoulder. There is no word on when LeRae will return to WWE TV, though she did wrestle at live events over the weekend. This would suggest that the injury is just part of a storyline. LeRae is quite talented when she is around. Check out what she can do in the ..
They aren’t done yet. WWE has a lot of television time in any given week and they often fill it with a good deal of action. That is the best way to advance storylines, but there is often more stuff that needs to be done after the show is over. You will occasionally see something take place after the show is over, which was the case this week as the violence continued after Monday Night Raw. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: What Could Have Been: Here Are WWE’s Original (And Different) John Cena WrestleMania Plans WWE has posted a video to its YouTube page showing Piper Niven attacking Candice LeRae after Monday Night Raw. LeRae was talking about how important her win over Niven had been and was being asked about Nikki Cross’ involvement when Niven attacked. Niven also told LeRae that she was coming for Cross. Cross’ distraction allowed LeRae to roll up Niven for the pin earlier in the night. Things got violent. Check out the attack, plus what led us here: [This post contains video, click to p..
She’s back. WWE has had a number of returns in the past 48 hours, with names such as Chelsea Green and Rick Boogs returning to the company. However, there was an additional name that also made her presence felt on television. Carmella made her return to WWE programming on tonight’s episode of Raw. It was also announced that she would be in a Fatal-4-way match on next week’s show, along with Candice LaRae, Michin, and Piper Niven. The winner of that match will qualify for the upcoming Elimination Chamber match, where the winner will face Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. After the announcement, Carmella was interviewed backstage, where she was confronted by Asuka, who had blue liquid running out of her mouth. Editor’s Opinion: F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! I have been a fan of Carmela’s for a long time and it is great to see her back on television. I’ve always thought that she had something to offer the company and with the momentum that the Raw women’s division has..
This is her brutality. After entering the match at No. 1, Rhea Ripley went the distance and ended up becoming the winner of the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble match. Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Royal Rumble 1991 Date: January 19, 1991 Location: Miami Arena, Miami, Florida Attendance: 16,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper So it’s 1991 now and the US is at war (kind of). Therefore, the main event here, other than the Rumble of course, is Warrior defending the world title against Slaughter. This is a major changeover from the old Rumble formula which was a bunch of nothing matches followed by the big battle royal to close the show. Well at least on PPV that is. This would become the norm after this..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Survivor Series 1990 Date: November 22, 1990 Location: Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, Connecticut Attendance: 16,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper This is a somewhat different show that in recent years as we have a main event of sorts. It was never tried again and that’s probably the best idea. It’s called the Grand Finale Match of Survival in which the survivors of each team meet in one final Survivor Series match. The winners get absolutely nothing, which continues to prove that these..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Summerslam 1990 Date: August 27, 1990 Location: Philadelphia Spectrum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Attendance: 19,304 Commentators: Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper I watched this show more times than I can count as a kid as it was the first wrestling show I had on video. I’ve seen it so many times that I can probably quote at least a bit of the commentary from every match and know most of the matches by heart so looking back at it should be fun. It’s a double main event as Hulk Hogan returns to face Earthquake and Ultim..
Another look. There have been all kinds of wrestlers over the years and several of them have some very interesting stories. That is the kind of thing that can make for some fascinating looks back and in recent years, a good many more of those looks have taken place. Now we seem ready to see even more, as some fresh wrestling documentaries are in the works. According to Fightful Select, the Reelz movie channel is planning to release several new wrestling documentaries this summer. Names that are confirmed for such documentaries are Roddy Piper, Steve Austin and Chyna, though it is not clear if the living people or their families will be involved. These are not part of the A&E documentary series and are not expected to have involvement from WWE. Opinion: This is an interesting idea, but at the same time I’m not sure how well things will go with limited participation. At the same time, Piper and Austin are names who have been documented before, with Austin’s story being fairly well know..
Back to the old. A name is one of the most important parts of a wrestler’s overall persona as it tells the people a lot about what they are seeing. The wrong name can cause a lot of problems for a wrestler but thankfully there are ways to fix the problem. WWE has a lot of fixing to do and for once it seems like they are actually going to do something about one of their problems. According to Wrestlingnews.co, WWE has filed a trademark on the name “Piper Niven”, which is the former name of current Monday Night Raw star Doudrop. During Doudrop’s debut earlier this year, Eva Marie said she did not want to hear her name and dubbed her Doudrop instead. The name has stuck, even after Eva Marie’s departure from WWE. There has been no mention of the Niven name so far on Monday Night Raw. Doudrop has been a force during her time on Monday Night Raw. Check out some of her work on the show: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post conta..
Dynamite Date: December 8, 2021 Location: UBS Arena, New York City, New York Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz We’re in New York again and this time around it’s the homecoming of MJF, which should be interesting. Other than that we have the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal as the company has some traditions going for it already. I’m not sure what to expect here, but Bryan Danielson kicking John Silver’s head in should be good. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is MJF…..’s music to start, but CM Punk comes out instead. The fans aren’t pleased, so Punk asks if that’s all they’ve got. Punk: “I’ve figured out why the Islanders have yet to win a game in this building.” Punk says the fans don’t disappoint, unlike their guy, MJF. It’s getting hot in here so he takes off his hoodie, revealing the AEW pillars, including Britt Baker. After explaining that he can respect Baker without trying to get in her pants, Punk says MJF was talking about being better than Roddy Piper in Por..
It’s something new. When Roddy Piper tried to get into acting, he was told that he was just a wrestler. When Piper was wrestling, he was told he was just acting. While wrestling is built around athleticism, there is also a lot of performing included. Some wrestlers have been able to turn that into an acting career, and now another wrestler seems to be trying to do the same. According to Fightful Select, Windham Rotunda, formerly known as Bray Wyatt, has been taking inquiries about opportunities in Hollywood for various projects. Rotunda was recently seen on the Warner Brothers property in Burbank, California with Jason Baker, who designed Wyatt’s lamp in WWE. There is no word on where Rotunda will wrestle next, following his release from WWE in July. Just another day at the office with @WWEBrayWyatt pic.twitter.com/zqZyyyZUFa — Jason Baker (@bakingjason) October 28, 2021 Rotunda can do a lot of things. Great American Bash 1998 Date: June 14, 1998 Location: Baltimore Arena, Baltimore, Maryland Attendance: 12,810 Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan We’re at the big summer PPV which originally gave us everything between the first War Games and the worst major PPV of all time, so it’s hard to say what to expect here. There’s a double main event with Sting vs. Giant for control of both tag titles and an actual tag match of Hart/Hogan vs. Piper/Savage with Piper and Savage agreeing to fight each oth..
It’s another way to go. Roddy Piper had a great line about acting (paraphrased): “When I was a wrestler, they said I was just an actor. When I was an actor, they said I was just a wrestler.” There is absolutely a connection between wrestler and acting but very few wrestlers have actually managed to pull it off. There has been some success though, and now another wrestler is interested in taking her shot. During a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, WWE’s Alexa Bliss mentioned that as much as she loves wrestling, she would love to try her hand at acting. Bliss said that she would always be at home in WWE but she has been working with an acting coach for the last ten months. There is nothing to suggest that Bliss will be leaving or taking any time off from WWE to pursue acting anytime soon. There is something to this. Check out the interview and some of Bliss’ time in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains..
It’s another career. Roddy Piper once said something like “when I was a wrestler, they said I was acting, but when I was acting, they said that I was a wrestler”. Wrestling and acting would seem to go hand in hand but that has not exactly been the case most of the time. Occasionally you will see a wrestler who can make it work, and that might be the case again this time. CM Punk is appearing in a new horror film, called Jakob’s Wife, which will be released on the Shudder streaming service on August 19. The film tells the story of a woman who gains powers after meeting a strange man, causing her husband to have to try and save her. Punk plays a supporting role in the film as Deputy Colton. Since leaving wrestling, Punk has dabbled in acting, most notably in the Girl On The Third Floor. This sounds cool. We have some sad news to report today, as WWE Hall of Famer “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff has passed away at the age of 71. From WWE.com: Orndorff was a standout running back at the University of Tampa and joined Mid-Southern Wrestling after a brief stint in the World Football League. Early rivalries with Jerry Lawler, Ted Dibiase and Jake “The Snake” Roberts gave way to NWA North American Heavyweight and National Heavyweight Championship reigns. Orndorff joined WWE in 1983 and was tabbed with the “Mr. Wonderful” nickname by his then-manager “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. With his awe-insipring in-ring style and umatched swagger, “Mr. Wonderful” turned his talent into a prototype for the modern-day Superstar. He made a memorable debut on January 23, 1984, with a win over Salvatore Bellomo at Madison Square Garden and launched right into the main event picture with matches against World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan. Mr. Wonderful achieved sports-entertainment immortality by competing alongs..
There are a lot of candidates. It takes a lot of different things to make a wrestling show work, but ultimately it all comes down to the matches. Over the years, there have been countless wrestling matches to see, but only some of them are the kind that stand out above the rest. It takes something special to be a match that makes a difference, and now WWE is trying to figure out which did the most. During this week’s edition of the Bump, the three hosts discussed the most important match in WWE history. The three matches discussed were Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. vs. Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper in the main event of WrestleMania 1, Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant in the main event of WrestleMania 3 and Hulk Hogan defeating the Iron Sheik to win his first WWE Title. The hosts then moved into a discussion of the matches which had the most influence on them as fans. These choices were their opinions rather than a definitive choice from WWE. This was a heck of a discussion. Check out the talk,..
That is going to get them in some trouble. It can be rather interesting to see a new star debut on WWE television, even if they have been on another show before. That can make for some fun situations as you do not know how the new star is going to be received. However, that might not be the best thing in the world in some situations, which seems to be the case this time around. This week on Monday Night Raw, NXT UK’s Piper Niven made her debut, wrestling in Eva Marie’s place to defeat Naomi in less than a minute. Niven has wrestled for NXT UK since 2017, following an appearance in the Mae Young Classic. She was not given a name and commentary did not recognize her, but it seems that someone has some problems with Niven already. Since Niven’s debut, various fans have posted messages to Twitter, many of which have been critical of Niven’s size and weight. Various WWE and NXT stars have responded as well, criticizing fans for making such comments. Niven herself has responded as well, sa..
That’s what’s in a name. A name can mean everything in wrestling and the higher of a level that the wrestler reaches, the more important it becomes. It can make all of the difference in the world to whether someone is a star or little more than a warm body on the roster. WWE has a hit and miss track record for their names and now they are trying something new with an established name. This week on Monday Night Raw, Eva Marie made her return to WWE television and was scheduled to face Naomi in her first match. However, an unnamed woman wrestled on Eva Marie’s behalf and defeated Naomi in less than a minute. The woman, who wrestled in NXT and in the Mae Young Classic under the name Piper Niven, was not identified by commentary, who did not seem to recognize her. Now we might be seeing her under a very different name. According to Fightful Select, WWE is considering the names “Doudrop” or “Dew Drop” for Niven. It is not clear if WWE is looking at any other names or if this is the direct..
Welcome indeed. WWE has so many different people on its rosters because there are so many different rosters. Some of these shows are treated as a bit more important than others, but there is still time for a lot of different people to get some attention. Every now and then you see some of them move around too, and that seems to be the case again, with a new name making their Monday Night Raw debut. NXT UK’s Piper Niven debuted during this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw. Niven came to the ring with Eva Marie and wrestled in her place, defeating Naomi in less than a minute. Eva Marie then announced herself as the winner and posed. Commentary did not recognize Niven and did not refer to her by name. Niven made her NXT UK debut in 2019 after appearing in the first Mae Young Classic. She had been rumored as a possible enforcer for Eva Marie. This was a cool debut. Check out Niven showing up and her time in NXT UK: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video,..
