NXT Results – December 13, 2022

NXT Date: December 13, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T We’re done with Deadline and that means it is time to start the rather long road to Vengeance Day in February. Deadline saw the crowning of new Tag Team Champions and a pair of new #1 contenders. That should give us some places to go for the next few weeks and we should be in for some fun, though maybe not so soon after Deadline. Let’s get to it. We open with a long recap of Deadline. Here is Roxanne Perez to get thing going….but Grayson Waller interrupts from the parking lot. Waller has the camera walk us into the arena where he brags about everything he can think of until Perez cuts him off. She says he wasn’t the only Iron Survivor but Waller isn’t impressed. Cue Bron Breakker to say Perez did a great job at Deadline and promises she’ll be the next Women’s Champion. Waller brags about outsmarting Breakker, who he’ll outsmart again for the title at Vengeance Day. Bre..

Gold Day: Six New Champions Crowned Over Two Different Events

Hand them over. Titles are one of the most important concepts in all of wrestling. They represent the best and often most talented stars in the promotion and are often the main focal points. It can mean a lot when a title changes hands and there are nights when several of them change hands during the same show. That was the case this weekend, with a special double shot. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Better Than Nothing? Tony Khan Announces Upcoming Weekly Ring Of Honor Series There were two major events held on Saturday, with Ring Of Honor Final Battle and NXT Deadline. Between the two shows, there were eight title matches with six title changes. The following titles changed hands at Final Battle: • Athena defeated Mercedes Martinez to win the Women’s Title • The Embassy defeated Dalton Castle and the Boys to win the Six Man Tag Team Titles • Wheeler Yuta defeated Daniel Garcia to win the Pure Title • The Briscoes defeated FTR in a Double Dog Collar match to win the Tag Team Titles • Claud..

Oh No: AEW Star Seemingly Injured During Rampage Taping (Contains Mild SPOILER)

You never want to see that. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to get injured in a match and none of them are good. One of the worst parts is wondering how long someone is going to be out before you know just how serious everything is. The waiting can be excruciating and now we are going to be waiting a bit longer to find out about a possible injury from this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Straightened Out: AEW Shakes Up Title Situation, Changes Former Championship Reign This week on AEW Dynamite, Top Flight challenged FTR for a Ring Of Honor Tag Team Title match this week on Rampage, with FTR accepting. The match was taped this week after Dynamite and as shown via an image on Twitter, Dante Martin seems to have been injured at some point. There are no further details, including what happened, when it happened, or the severity of the injury. This comes after Dante’s brother Darius returned from several months off due to an injury of his own. Oh no. Dante maybe hurt? ? #aew #AE..

The List Keeps Growing: Another Possible Injury On AEW Dynamite

That didn’t look good. Wrestlers are asked to do a lot of things in the ring and some of them go more smoothly than others. You never know when you are going to see someone get hurt and put on the shelf, which leaves the question of just how long they are going to be gone. That seems to be the case again this week, as an AEW star seemed to get hurt during a match. This week’s AEW Dynamite featured a match between Dante Martin and Sammy Guevara. Late in the match, Martin was limping around the ring and seemed to land awkwardly when Guevara hit a springboard cutter. After Guevara won, Martin was looked at and helped from the ring. There is no word on the condition of Martin’s knee or how much, if any, time he might be missing as a result. There is also the chance that the injury was a storyline and not legitimate. Opinion: I hope Martin isn’t hurt, but the landing was more than a bit scary looking. It was bad enough to lose his brother to another knee injury and now he might have one o..

Multiple Ouches: Injury Updates On Several AEW Stars

There is a lot to go through. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never know when someone is going to be put on the shelf. It could be for quite a long time or a short while, but either way it is something that can create quite the problem. That is the case again in AEW, but this time there are quite a few injuries at the same time. Fightful Select is reporting updates on several AEW injuries. First up is Matt Hardy, who suffered some sort of a knee injury over the weekend at AAA’s TripleMania event in Tijuana, Mexico. Hardy’s knee is said to have “major” swelling but it is not clear how long he might be out, if he is at all. In addition, Bryan Danielson is currently not cleared to wrestle at AEW Forbidden Door, though he is expected to make an announcement about his injury status. Next, Lee Johnson is currently out of action with a knee injury and is expected to be out of action for the rest of the summer. Finally, Darius Martin is also out of a..

AEW Rampage Results – June 17, 2022

Rampage Date: June 17, 2022 Location: Chaifetz Arena, St. Louis, Missouri Commentators: Taz, Excalibur, Chris Jericho We are less than two weeks away from Forbidden Door and a bunch of matches were added to the card this week on Dynamite. I doubt that we get that much this time, but we do get Jade Cargill vs. Willow Nightingale. That should be a fun match and odds are we get something else on the same level. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley vs. Dante Martin William Regal is on commentary and calls Jericho a Trout Slapper. Moxley powers him into the corner to start as we talk about Zack Sabre Jr.’s comments about Bryan Danielson. They trade wristlocks into a headlock takeover from Moxley but Martin is back up with a dropkick out to the floor. Moxley runs him over again though and we take a break. Back with Moxley hitting the running knee to the face and a butterfly superplex for two. Martin fights up and hits a quick ax handle, setting up a high crossbody for two of his..

That’s Two: Another AEW Champion Suffers An Injury This Week

That’s never good. Injuries are the kind of thing that can slow down any wrestler no matter what they are doing. You never know when you are going to see someone get hurt for either a short or longer amount of time but either can be devastating to whatever they are doing. That seems to be the case again to a reigning champion, though things could always be worse. AEW TNT Champion Scorpio Sky has sent out a tweet revealing that he suffered an injury during his successful title defense against Dante Martin on this week’s Rampage. Sky said that he started the match with his knee bothering him, but then strained a muscle in his leg in the opening minutes. The injury left his right leg “useless”, though he did finish the match. Sky also said that he hopes it is nothing serious and that he is able to return to the ring soon. I went into last nights match with my knee bothering me and unfortunately in the opening minutes I strained a muscle that goes from my knee up through my groin. My rig..

AEW Champion Reportedly Unhappy With Lack Of TV Time

Can you blame her? AEW has come a very long way in a relatively short time and are regularly running two television series every week. That is a tricky situation to pull off but the company manages to make it work on a regular basis. Things might not be as easy as they seem though, as one of the company’s more prominent wrestlers is not happy with how she is being presented. According to Fightful Select, there has been some discussion of frustration backstage from AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa over her presence on AEW TV. Rosa is reportedly unhappy that her title has taken a backseat to Jade Cargill’s TBS Title and Mercedes Martinez’s Ring Of Honor Women’s Title. Rosa was not on this week’s edition of Dynamite, though this was reported to have been due to an illness. Opinion: Can you blame Rosa for not being happy with things? She really is second to Cargill and probably also Britt Baker (I’m not sure I would say the same about Martinez) and that must be frustrating. Rosa is a ve..

AEW Rampage Results – June 3, 2022

Rampage Date: June 3, 2022 Location: Toyota Arena, Ontario, California Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Chris Jericho We’re done with Double Or Nothing and a pretty solid Dynamite so things are looking up. The main event tonight is for the TNT Title as Scorpio Sky defends against Dante Martin, but there is also an announcement from CM Punk about the future of the World Title. That sounds a bit ominous so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Young Bucks vs. Lucha Bros Adam Cole is on commentary. Penta and Matt trade hand gestures to start so Matt has to escape the Fear Factor. Matt also has to escape getting his arm broken so it’s a standoff into double tags to Fenix and Nick. An exchange of flips let us have a handshake but Matt gets in a cheap shot from behind. A Cannonball/running kick to the head combination in the corner have Fenix in more trouble, with Nick following up with the running flip dive. Penta hits the big dive onto both Bucks though and Fenix adds one of his own. Back in..

SmackDown Results – May 20, 2022

Smackdown Date: May 20, 2022 Location: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Michigan Commentators: Pat McAfee, Michael Cole We are about two weeks away from Hell In A Cell and I think that means you know what you’re getting. The big story tonight is the Tag Team Title unification match between RKBro and the Usos, which will probably get quite a bit of hype. Other than that, we have a lot more to cover before the pay per view so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is the Bloodline to get things going, with Michael Cole saying that if the Usos unify the titles, it will establish the Bloodline as the greatest faction in WWE history. Roman Reigns tells the fans to acknowledge him and then has Paul Heyman tell the people why this night is so important. Heyman talks about how the Bloodline is amazing, including Roman Reigns, who is better than Hogan, Austin, Sammartino and Cena. Tonight though, the Usos are unifying the Tag Team Titles and beating the best team on Raw to become the greates..

AEW Star Injured Again, To Miss 6-9 More Months

Ouch, again. Injuries are a part of the wrestling world and unfortunately they can take out anyone at any given time. There is no way around this for any wrestler and you never know when someone is going to go onto the shelf for a long time. Unfortunately that seems to be the case again, and this time around it is someone who has not even been back in the ring that long since their last horrible injury. During an appearance on the Universal Wrestling Podcast, AEW’s Malakai Black revealed that Darius Martin was involved in a car crash which will put him out of action for another six to nine months. There is no word on the nature of the accident or what kind of injuries Martin suffered. This comes less than two months after Martin returned to action following a torn ACL. He only wrestled eight matches before he was injured again. Opinion: That is another level of snake bit and that is never something you want to see. Martin is a young, talented star but unfortunately he isn’t going to ..

(Very Unique) History Has Been Made! Title Change On AEW Dynamite

History has been made! We are in a very interesting time in wrestling as the lines between the companies have virtually gone away. You can see wrestlers show up in one national company after another and it makes for a series of interesting matches. Some of them can be rather interesting and a title can make them even better. That was the case this week with a rather intricate situation. This week on AEW Dynamite, Interim Ring Of Honor Women’s Champion Mercedes Martinez defeated Ring Of Honor Women’s Champion Deonna Purrazzo to unify the titles. The match saw Martinez, an AEW wrestler defeat Purrazzo, an Impact Wrestling wrestler, for a Ring Of Honor title. There is no word on if Purrazzo will be making regular appearances for AEW going forward. Opinion: This is something that sounded like a good idea on paper but AEW did not do the best job of hyping up the match. The match had quite the unique setup but it was treated as just another match that happened to headline the show. AEW sti..

AEW Star Injured (Again), Missing “Lengthy” Amount Of Time

Yes, again. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to be injured and one of the worst things is waiting to find out how long it is going to be before they get back in the ring. Sometimes that takes a lot longer than other situations, but it is great to see them return to action. Every now and then though, you see someone get hurt again almost immediately after they get back, which is the case now. According to Fightful, AEW’s Darius Martin is out of action with a leg injury that took place “fairly recently”. Martin is expected to be out of action for a lengthy period of time though it is not clear how long that will be. This comes after martin returned to action on March 2 after missing over a year with a torn ACL. After his return, Martin only wrestled eleven matches before being put out of action again. Opinion: This is one of the worst things to hear in wrestling as Martin was barely back at all before he was injured again. I have no idea how long he is going to be out of acti..

AEW Has A Strong Night At ROH Supercard Of Honor With Big Title Haul

It was a busy night. There are a lot of titles to be won in the wrestling industry and some of them have deep histories. It means something when those titles change hands, especially on a show of magnitude. In his case, a lot of the titles had not been defended or even seen in a very long time, making the changes all the more important. That was the case this week in a big way. There were four new champions crowned at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor 2022 event, which served as the company’s first new event since December 2021. First, Mercedes Martinez defeated Willow Nightingale to become the new Interim Women’s Champion, setting up a unification match with Deonna Purrazzo. Second, FTR defeated the Briscoes to win the Tag Team Titles. Next, Minoru Suzuki took the Television Title from Rhett Titus, followed by Wheeler Yuta becoming the Pure Champion by defeating Josh Woods. The show’s main event saw Jonathan Gresham defeat Bandido to become undisputed World Champion. Opinion: That ..

AEW Star Returns To The Ring After Year Long Injury

Welcome back. Injuries are a terrible thing in wrestling as they can take someone out of action for any length of time. While there are some that are not as bad as others, there are also injuries that keep can keep wrestlers out of action for a long time. That is never good to see, but it can make for some great moments when they return. That was the case this week after a long layoff. Darius Martin made his return to the ring this week on AEW Dynamite. Martin teamed with his brother Dante under their Top Flight moniker in a tag team battle royal, finishing runners up to the Young Bucks. The match was Darius’ first since February 2021 when he tore his ACL. There is no word on when Darius will return to the ring as a singles wrestler or if Top Flight will be continuing as a team. Opinion: This was one of those nice things to see and Darius looked awesome when he returned. It is great to see him get back in the ring and show that he doesn’t seem to have lost a step. Top Flight was a te..

AEW Star Announces His Contract Is Expiring, To Become A Free Agent

You could book him too. The last few years have seen some big changed to the wrestling world. AEW’s debut and immediate rise to the second highest spot in the industry has opened up a very big stage for several wrestlers. Wrestlers who might not fit in WWE now have a new place to go, but this time around an AEW wrestler seems ready to ply his trade elsewhere. AEW’s Lio Rush has announced that his contract with the company will expire on February 14, making him a free agent. There is no word on if Rush is interested in re-signing with AEW, as his tweet includes contact information for independent bookings. Rush debuted with the company in September and has only wrestled four matches since arriving. Most of Rush’s time in AEW has been spent as Dante Martin’s manager before Martin joined Team Taz. I’m a free agent. pic.twitter.com/aZwy8F8O6O — Lio Rush (@IamLioRush) January 22, 2022 Opinion: Rush is such an interesting case as he is in his mid 20s and has already wrestled around the w..

Inaugural TBS Champion Crowned

History has been made. On tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Jade Cargill took on Ruby Soho in the finals of the tournament to crown the inaugural TBS champion. But who talked out as the victor? After a hard-hitting contest, Jade Cargill would defeat Ruby Soho to become the first-ever TBS Champion. Check out how both competitors got here: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] From our own Thomas Hall: Jade powers her around to start and Soho thinks she might need another plan. That doesn’t seem to work very well as Soho is sent outside in a hurry, but here is Mercedes Martinez to yell. Cue Thunder Rosa to fight Martinez to the back and we take an early break. Back with Rosa managing an STO and kicking away at Cargill’s leg. That earns her a heck of a shoulder breaker for two though and Soho is right back in trouble. A belly-to-back suplex gets Soho out of trouble so Sterling gets up on the apron. That’s good for an ejection so Carg..

Another Former WWE Star Makes AEW Debut, Signs With Company

Nice to meet you. There have been all kinds of WWE releases over the last year, with NXT taking the brunt of the punishment. The show has seen a bunch of wrestlers leave, many of which came out of nowhere. As a result, there have been all kinds of talented wrestlers flooding the market, and now one of them has found what seems to be a more permanent home. Former NXT and Impact Wrestling star Mercedes Martinez made her debut on AEW Dynamite. Martinez, under a hood, attacked Thunder Rosa during Rosa’s TBS Title tournament match against Jade Cargill, allowing Cargill to pick up the win. Following the match, Martinez unveiled herself and was chased off by Ruby Soho, who will be facing Cargill in the tournament finals. Martinez was released from WWE earlier this year and appeared briefly for Impact Wrestling. Welcome to @AEW, @RealMMartinez!
