That’s a rough way to go. Wrestlers take a lot of risks every time they get in the ring, as wrestling is certainly not the safest sport in the world. The wrestlers who get in the ring are putting their bodies on the line every time and they can take a lot of damage. On top of that though, there are all kinds of other health issues wrestlers have to deal with, including one nasty illness. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Big One: WWE High On Rhea Ripley, Speculation On Huge WrestleMania 39 Match SmackDown star Ricochet has revealed that he has been suffering from an illness which has caused him to lose 15+ pounds in a week and a half. Ricochet did not reveal if he is back to full health or if he is expected to miss any ring time. He has wrestled multiple matches in the last ten days and is currently scheduled to face Santos Escobar in the finals of the SmackDown World Cup this Friday on SmackDown. The fact that you’ve lost 15+ pounds because you’ve been sick for the past week and a half. ?..
Smackdown Date: November 25, 2022 Location: Amica Mutual Pavilion, Providence, Rhode Island Commentators: Michael Cole, Wade Barrett It’s the go home show for Survivor Series and we have a big time main event. This week it’s the Usos vs. Sheamus/Drew McIntyre for the WarGames advantage and what wouldn’t surprise me as a big preview for a future Tag Team Title match. Other than that, we’ll find out the final member of Team Belair, so let’s get to it. Team Damage Ctrl is in the ring to start and Bayley doesn’t want to waste any time. She wants to know who the fifth member of Team Belair is right now, so here is Team Belair in a hurry. Belair doesn’t waste time and introduces the fifth member of her team: the returning Becky Lynch. The brawl is quickly on, with Team Belair clearing the ring. Smackdown World Cup Semifinals: Butch vs. Santos Escobar The rest of their teams are at ringside and Zelina Vega joins commentary. Escobar takes him down fast to start but gets pulled into an armba..
Rampage Date: November 18, 2022 Location: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho, Excalibur It’s the go home show for Full Gear and the show has quite a bit set up in advance. The main story is advancing a tournament whose finals have been moved from Full Gear to next week, which is the best option that AEW had all things considered. Other than that, we have a special guest star so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Full Gear Contenders Tournament First Round: Ricky Starks vs. Lance Archer We start in the back (as originally planned and with Starks in street clothes) with the two of them taking turns sending each other into a metal garage door. Archer sends a backstage worker into a bunch of chairs and now they head into the arena, with Archer dragging him towards the ring. A right hand knocks Starks most of the way over a barricade and they go into the crowd with Starks diving onto him. They get to ringside, where Archer runs hi..
Impact Wrestling Date: November 17, 2022 Location: Sam’s Town Live, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan It is the go home show for Overdrive and that means we need to find out the other finalist in the X-Division Title tournament. Other than that, we have what should be a violent match between Eric Young and Sami Callihan, where blood is required. It should be an eventful show so let’s get to it. Opening recap. Opening sequence. A laughing Crazzy Steve is in the ring and asks if we can feel it. Brace yourselves for the barrage of brutality that is Black Taurus. X-Division Title Tournament Semifinals: Black Taurus vs. PJ Black They flip around to start with neither being able to get very far. A monkey flip sends Taurus into the corner but he blasts Black pretty hard. Black is fine enough to send him outside for a big dive. Back in and a moonsault misses for Black, allowing Taurus to powerslam him for two. A Sling Blade gives Taurus two more but Black is b..
Switch it up. AEW has been around for a little over three and a half years now and during that time they have established a schedule that they tend to follow for their major events. The company presents four regular pay per views, with the next installment coming this weekend. However, they have now made a last minute change, which will affect both this event and the next TV show. During a media call to promote Full Gear, AEW President Tony Khan announced that the finals of the Full Gear #1 contenders tournament have been moved from Full Gear to Dynamite. This comes after the first round match between Ricky Starks and Lance Archer was postponed due to Starks being not medically cleared to compete. The first round match will now take place on Rampage, with the winner facing Brian Cage on the Full Gear Zero Hour show. The winner of that will face Ethan Page on Dynamite. They have potential. Check out what we’ll be seeing on Rampage: [This post contains video, click to play] [This po..
Dynamite Date: November 16, 2022 Location: Total Mortgage Arena, Bridgeport, Connecticut Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone, Ian Riccaboni It’s the go home show for Full Gear and that means the card could still use some work. If nothing else, we need to have some more matches in the Contenders tournament as the finals are still set for Saturday. Other than that, odds are we’ll be hearing from MJF and Jon Moxley. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Bryan Danielson/Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chris Jericho/Sammy Guevara It’s a brawl to start with the Club elbowing away at Guevara and Jericho, followed by a surfboard to Guevara. Back up and Guevara hits a dropkick to take over, allowing Jericho to come in for the chops in the corner. Danielson fights out and scores with the running dropkicks to Guevara but tries once too often. Jericho gets in a cheap shot from the floor and we take a break. Back with Danielson getting double suplexed but managing to get over for the hot tag to C..
Dynamite Date: November 9, 2022 Location: Aggaris Arena, Boston, Massachusetts Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone We are just over a week away from Full Gear and the card could use some help. So far the main matches are a four way for the Ring Of Honor World Title and MJF challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title. Other than that we a few title matches and the finals of a tournament that hasn’t started yet. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Gunn Club/Swerve In Our Glory vs. FTR/Acclaimed Billy Gunn storms the ring before the bell but gets ejected for jumping Swerve. We settle down to Wheeler hammering on Swerve in the corner as the fans are rather pleased with the goings on. The good guys take turns on Swerve, including the scissoring from the Acclaimed, as everything breaks down, with the four villains getting punches rained down in the corner. We take a break and come back with Harwood suplexing his way out of trouble and avoiding a splash in the corner. The hot t..
Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? WCPW Pro Wrestling World Cup Finals Date: August 26, 2017 Location: Sport Central, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England Commentators: Dave Bradshaw, James R. Kennedy So back in 2017, What Culture Pro Wrestling (later Defiant Wrestling) set up a massive tournament with wrestlers from around the world taking part. As you can guess, this is the big final, with both the semifinals and finals taking place. This was a cool concept and I didn’t get to see any of it but here’s the big ending. Lets get to it. Opening sequence. S..
You have to start somewhere. There are a lot of titles in WWE and holding a championship still means quite a bit. Winning a title can be a game changer for a wrestler and often serves as the start of someone’s move up to the next level. There are a few ways to become a champion and now we have a better idea of how two people will be winning a title at once. WWE has released the brackets for the tournament to crown new Women’s Tag Team Champions with the first round beginning this week on Monday Night Raw: Tamina/Dana Brooke Iyo Sky/Dakota Kai Alexa Bliss/Asuka Nikki Ash/Doudrop Raquel Rodriguez/Aliyah Xia Li/Shotzi Nikkita Lyons/Zoey Stark Natalya/Sonya Deville The tournament is being held after Naomi and Sasha Banks walked out on WWE in May, vacating the titles in the process. It is not clear when the finals will be taking place or if Lyons and Stark have been called up from NXT permanently. Opinion: That is a pretty nice field for the tournament and I’m curious to see how well..
They’re back. There are a lot of titles under the WWE banner and some of them are specifically for one set of wrestlers. Those titles often have smaller fields of competitors, which means things can be a bit tighter when it comes to challenging for a championship. It is going to be the case again soon, as WWE is going to be crowning a new set of champions in the near future. It was announced on this week’s SmackDown that a tournament would begin next week on Monday Night Raw to crown new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. There were no details on the tournament, including the participants, number of teams or when the finals would be held. Sasha Banks and Naomi vacated the titles when they walked out on WWE back in May, with a tournament being promised shortly thereafter. Opinion: This surprises me a bit as the titles had not been mentioned in several months. I don’t know if the women’s division has the depth to support the titles but if more women are being brought in, it could work out..
Keep them coming. There are a lot of titles in wrestling today and it can be interesting to see the directions they take. Most of them are pretty straightforward, but occasionally you will see some that are different enough that they get your attention. That seems to be the case again, as AEW is introducing some new titles that have been teased almost since the company was founded. AEW officially introduced the Trios Titles this week on Dynamite, with the belts being shown in front of the commentary table. The inaugural champions will be crowned in the finals of a tournament at All Out on September 4, though no other details about the tournament were given. The titles have been discussed since AEW began but have never actually been introduced until now. Opinion: You could all but guarantee that these titles were coming, but the question was more about when and where the champions would be crowned. AEW does indeed love running tournaments but that is what makes the most sense for titl..
NXT Date: June 7, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph We’re fresh off In Your House and the show came with a few changes. The North American and Tag Team Titles changed hands so there is some fresh blood in the gold scene around here. This week’s features the finals of the Women’s Breakout Tournament as Tiffany Stratton faces Roxanne Perez. Let’s get to it. We open with a match by match recap of In Your House. Here is new North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, with Trick Williams, for a chat. Hayes is really happy to have the title back and gives Cameron Grimes credit for a tough fight on Saturday. He brags about his greatness, but here is Solo Sikoa to interrupt. Sikoa says he has next, but Hayes says that deal was with Grimes, not the new champ. Now it’s Grayson Waller to interrupt, saying it doesn’t matter who Sikoa’s family is because no one cares or likes him. The brawl is on, with Sikoa being taken down by some tripl..
That’s never good to hear. One of the last things that you ever want to hear about in wrestling is an injury. Someone can be on a roll and then have something to go wrong that wipes them out for a short or long amount of time. Wrestlers can be taken out in the blink of an eye and unfortunately that seems to be the case again. Now we know some more about just how bad things are. It was announced this week on NXT that Nikkita Lyons was injured, forcing her out of the Women’s Breakout Tournament. Lyons has since posted a video to Instagram, announcing that she has suffered a partial tear of her MCL, as well as an MCL sprain. There is no word on how long Lyons is expected to be out of action. Tiffany Stratton took her place in the tournament and advanced to the finals against Roxanne Perez. This doesn’t sound good. Check out Lyons’ announcement: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure what this is going to mean for Lyons’ future but hopefully she isn’t out of ac..
The card keeps growing. We are less than four days away from AEW Double Or Nothing and the card is all but set. The matches have been made for quite awhile not, but this time around there are some gaps that still need to be filled in. This includes a few tournament finals, and now we know who will be taking part in one of them, with a prestigious prize on the line. This week on AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe defeated Kyle O’Reilly to advance to the finals of the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. As a result of his win, Samoa Joe will face Adam Cole at Double Or Nothing on Sunday May 29. The match will mark the finals of the first ever edition of the tournament, as well as the first time that the two of them have faced off in their careers. Opinion: This is the kind of match that is certainly intriguing, as I could see either of them winning. What matters here is having the best match they could, as I can imagine that the goal will be to put on a match to honor Hart. Samoa Joe winning w..
Dynamite Date: May 25, 2022 Location: Michelob Ultra Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone It’s Double Or Nothing weekend and that means it is time to get in the last Dynamite before the pay per view. That means it is time to find out who will be in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments, which should make for some interesting matches for the pay per view. It’s also the third anniversary of the first AEW show so this should be good. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Wardlow vs. Shawn Spears In a cage with MJF as the referee and Wardlow has to win here to get MJF on Sunday. Wardlow is still handcuffed to start so Spears gets in a few shots, allowing MJF to stomp away in the corner. The double teaming is on, including sending Wardlow into the steps. MJF stops to talk too much trash though and gets hit in the face, allowing Wardlow to drop Spears. The Swanton connects but MJF won’t count, allowing Spears to get up. One heck of a chair ..
Stick around for a bit. We are coming up on the three year anniversary of AEW’s first ever event and the company is still going strong. The rise of AEW has changed quite a few things for all kinds of fans but also for the wrestlers themselves. Now wrestlers are able to have a different place to go aside from just WWE and one such star is going to be sticking around for a long time. AEW star Kyle O’Reilly appeared on the Toddcast and revealed that he has signed a five year deal with the company. It is not clear if this is a new deal or the deal that he signed when he came into the company back in December 2021. O’Reilly has gone on to become part of the Undisputed Elite and will be facing Samoa Joe in the semifinals of the men’s Owen hart Foundation tournament. Opinion: Good for O’Reilly to get a deal that he seems happy with and that he can be on for a long time to come. You don’t get to see a lot of people get that kind of security and O’Reilly is talented enough that he deserves it..
This is only a rumor, so take it for its worth. According to Brian Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio, some further drama is taking place between Kota Ibushi and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Apparently, Ibushi is not happy with NJPW as he feels the company is trying to get him back in the ring before he is fully healed. Ibushi suffered a shoulder injury after taking a hard landing during his G1 Climax finals match against Kazuchika Okada in October 2021. Ibushi was initially planned to participate in this year’s New Japan Cup. He was pulled from the tournament as he wasn’t ready to return to action. This adds to the potentially current drama, as he recently posted a series of cryptic tweets in Japanese. This left many foreign fans confused, due to mistranslations, as some shocking terms were seen through the translation tool on Twitter, such as “sexually harassing bosses.” Ibushi signed a “lifetime contract” with NJPW back in 2019.
