Keep It Short: Matt Hardy Reveals How Discussed World Title Reign Might Have Gone

That would have been different. There are all kinds of accomplishments in the wrestling world but being the World Champion is at the top of the list. It makes you the biggest star in a promotion and often the focal point of everything going on. Rarely will a wrestler turn down the chance to hold the company’s top title, but that was the case with a prominent star when he had the shot. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: 45 Year Old WWE Star Wrestles Final Match To End 25 Year Career During the most recent edition of his The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy spoke about his Broken Matt run in Impact Wrestling. Hardy revealed that had he and his brother Jeff re-signed with the company, there had been a discussion of Matt having another World Title reign. Matt felt that if he did win the title, he should not have had it long as Broken Matt was not someone who needed titles. After a few weeks, Matt had hoped to drop the title to Eli Drake, who would go on to become World Champion...

Ring Of Honor Death Before Dishonor 2022 Results

Death Before Dishonor 2022 Date: July 23, 2022 Location: Tsongas Center, Lowell, Massachusetts Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman Ring Of Honor is back and that should be a good thing. The company certainly has a history and it is nice to see that history continuing, but there has only been a limited build to the show on AEW TV. Then again, Ring Of Honor has always been about the in-ring work more than anything else and maybe that is enough to make the show work. Let’s get to it. Zero Hour: Colt Cabana vs. Anthony Henry JD Drake is here with Henry. Cabana takes him down by the arm to start but Henry spins out and strikes away in the corner. A sunset flip is blocked and Henry twists Cabana’s neck around to slow things down. Some more neck cranking sets up some kicks to the chest, which just fire Cabana up. Henry is fine with that and cuts him off with a piledriver for two. Back up and Cabana grabs a spinning belly to back suplex, setting up the Flip Flop and (slightly delay..

Welcome….Back? Two NXT Stars Make Returns Under New Characters And Names

They’re back. NXT has a weird balance to maintain between being the WWE developmental program and running things for themselves. The promotion has to figure out a way to keep things going and keeping wrestlers fresh, which can often involve a change of presentation. That was the case again this week, with two wrestlers receiving a new character and a new name to go with it. This week’s NXT featured the return of the team formerly known as the Grizzled Young Veterans. The team, previously known as James Drake and Zack Gibson were rechristened as Jagger Reid and Rip Fowler respectively by Joe Gacy. Over the last two months, Gacy had appeared with the two, whose identities had been hidden. The trio is now collectively known as the Schism. Opinion: The Veterans had long since been rumored as being under the hoods so it makes sense to go with what makes sense. I’m not sure how well the three man team is going to do but it is nice to have the Veterans back on TV. They are a talented pairin..

Get Nametags: Two NXT Stars Undergoing Name Changes

Nice to meet you? There are a lot of ways to make a wrestler stand out and one of the easiest is to give them the right name. Having a wrestler with a standout name is something that has worked for years and that is still the case to this day. WWE has had some issues with getting names right though and now they might be doing that all over again. According to PWInsider.com, the Grizzled Young Veterans will both be undergoing name changes. Going forward, Zack Gibson will be named Rip Fowler and James Drake will be named Jagger Reid. The team will continue to be part of the NXT roster once they return, as they have not wrestled since April. There is no word on when the team is expected to be back on television. Opinion: If you have been watching NXT in recent weeks, you might be able to guess what the Veterans are going to be doing. The last few weeks have seen Joe Gacy’s Dyad become more of a regular team, with Gacy saying that their identities will be revealed next week. That might n..

RUMOR: Here’s Why AEW Pulled Stars From Upcoming Independent Shows

It takes priority. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works in a lot of ways. One of the biggest has been allowing wrestlers to get a better chance to showcase themselves on a major stage. That is going to let those wrestlers land several bookings on smaller shows, but now that is not going to be the case with some wrestlers on an upcoming show. According to PW Torch, AEW has pulled a group of wrestlers from some upcoming independent events as they have changed a Dark taping from April 30 to May 1. As a result, Lee Moriarty and Skye Blue have been pulled from a Black Label Pro event and JD Drake, Top Flight and Wheeler Yuta have been pulled from a Pro Wrestling Guerrilla event. Both promotions have promised replacements. Unfortunately Lee Moriarty, Skye Blue and Jake Something will not be appearing at Fancy Wrestling next week. Updated matches and championship repercussions will be announced very soon. — Black Label Pro (@BLabelPro) April 22, 2022 Unfortunate..

WATCH: Tag Team Drops Hints That They Are Leaving NXT

That might be it? Wrestlers move up and down the WWE roster on a constant basis and it can be a bit tricky to keep track of everyone. So much moving around can make for some interesting changes when someone arrives elsewhere, and now we might be seeing it again. Some name changes this week might lead to a move down the line, or at least that is what is being hinted at. This week on NXT, the Grizzled Young Veterans, comprised of James Drake and Zack Gibson, had their names changed to just Drake and Gibson, with the team name being dropped entirely. Following the show, the team released a video talking about their frustrations, followed by a tweet from Drake showing his empty locker. This could suggest that the team will be moving up to the main roster, though this has not been confirmed. They’re dropping hints. Check out how the Veterans teased leaving: [This post contains video, click to play] Thank you @WWE https://t.co/mweqOLEYfi pic.twitter.com/T2b8CgLCdo — James Drake (@James..

WWE Changes Two More Names By Getting Rid Of A Tag Team’s Identity

There they go again. There are a lot of wrestlers in WWE and some of them are among the better known names in wrestling. You might see some names who are successes around the world and that can give them a history before they make it to WWE in the first place. That being said, WWE has a tendency to change names at the drop of a hat and that seems to be what they have done again. This week on NXT, the Grizzled Young Veterans, comprised of James Drake and Zack Gibson, had their names changed. Not only are they now just Drake and Gibson, but the Grizzled Young Veterans name has been dropped as well. This comes as WWE has been changing the names of several wrestlers, many of whom are in NXT. Vince McMahon has ordered the name changes to avoid wrestlers using their more famous names in case they go to AEW. Opinion: For lack of a better term, this is WWE’s thing at the moment, whether it makes sense or not. I think I get McMahon’s thinking behind the changes, but that doesn’t make them the..

NXT Results – April 19, 2022

NXT Date: April 19, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph Things are both picking up and being let down around here. While Pretty Deadly and some other imports are a nice upgrade, the NXT Title picture is leaning more into B movie territory as Joe Gacy becomes more of a Bond villain parody. Hopefully the things in the middle can make it better so let’s get to it. The opening recap looks at Pretty Deadly winning the Tag Team Titles and Joe Gacy telling Bron Brakker he needs to make a sacrifice. Here is Pretty Deadly for a chat. They have dominated England and decided it was time to come to America and dominate here as well. And it wasn’t even that hard! Cue the Grizzled Young Veterans (with the graphic ignoring their first names, which has me worried). Drake says Pretty Deadly wouldn’t have won had they been here and it is time for the Veterans to win the titles. Cue Legado del Fantasma to brawl with the Veterans though and a..

NXT LVL Up Results – February 22, 2022

NXT LVL Up Date: February 25, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Nigel McGuinness It’s week #2 of this show, or week roughly #20 if you consider this to be the revamped 205 Live that it really is. Therefore the matches aren’t going to be anything of note but we might get some slight NXT star power around here. That is almost the only way to make the show feel important, though it is hardly consistent with what it offers. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Xyon Quinn vs. James Drake Zack Gibson is here with Drake. Quinn can’t get a grab on him against the ropes to start so Drake mocks him a bit. A hammerlock works a bit better for Quinn, who stands up so Drake’s crossbody can bounce off of him. Drake bails to the floor and a Gibson distraction lets Drake get in a cheap shot. Back in and Quinn slugs away but has to power out of a sleeper. Quinn slams him off the top but Gibson offers another distraction, allowing Drake to grab a rollup f..

Former WWE Star Has Returned To Company In Brand New Role

He found something. Over the last year and a half, WWE has released more than 200 people from the company, with the majority of them being active wrestlers. This has shaken up the company in a huge way, but it has also been a huge hit to the wrestlers themselves. That is a lot of people who suddenly have no job and the question is where they are going to land. Another one is already back in the fold. According to PWInsider.com, Drake Maverick, who was released from WWE in 2021, has returned to the company as part of the Monday Night Raw creative team. Maverick reportedly started in the role about three or four weeks ago. Following his release from the company, Maverick has not wrestled another match anywhere and it is not clear if he plans to do so again in the future. Opinion: I love seeing something like this, as Maverick gets to continue doing what he loves, even if it is from a different side. The fact that WWE has hired him back again shows that they see something in him and if ..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – February 8, 2022

NXT Date: February 8, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett We are a week away from Vengeance Day but there is another title match to get through first. This week will see Mandy Rose defending the Women’s Title against Kay Lee Ray in a match that seems likely to have some shenanigans. Other than that, we continue the men’s Dusty Classic while trying to find a field for the women’s version. Let’s get to it. The opening video features Mandy Rose talking about all of her success and demands to be taken serious. Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semifinals: Grizzled Young veterans vs. Creed Brothers The Creeds break up the Veterans’ trash talking entrance and start the fight fast. That means Gibson gets beaten down inside as the brothers get to take turns on him. Brutus suplexes Julius onto Gibson but a cheap shot allows the tag to Drake. Julius runs Drake over without much trouble and isn’t fooled as Gibson comes in off a blind tag..

AEW Star Now Looking To Wrestle Outside Company

That would be a change of pace. AEW has shaken up the wrestling world by allowing a lot more wrestlers a chance to appear on mainstream television. That is the kind of thing that fans have been wanting to see for a long time now and AEW has provided that platform. Now though, a wrestler seems to be wanting to perform elsewhere, despite being an AEW regular. AEW’s Pretty Peter Avalon has announced that he is now available for all independent dates and appearances going forward. This announcement leaves his AEW status unclear, though Avalon wrestled at the most recent set of AEW Dark television tapings, teaming with JD Drake in a loss to Orange Cassidy and Wheeler Yuta. Nothing in his announcement says or suggests that he has left AEW or will be anytime soon. Avalon has not wrestled on Dynamite in nearly a year, but has wrestled on the company’s streaming events. He has also been wrestling on the independent circuits on occasion in recent months. ANNOUNCEMENT My career status: #LFG T..

VIDEOS: Wrestling World Reacts To Latest WWE Releases

They don’t seem pleased. One of the biggest WWE stories over the last year and a half has been the string of releases. The company has released well over 100 wrestlers in the last eighteen months and that continued earlier this week. It was a story that has taken place several times now and just like the previous times, the wrestling world has a lot to say about the whole thing. Earlier this week, WWE released another group of eight wrestlers, including the Hit Row faction, John Morrison, Shane Thorne, Tegan Nox, Drake Maverick and Jaxson Ryker. Since the releases have taken place, several wrestlers and wrestling personalities have reacted to the situation, with the majority of them expressing sympathy for the wrestlers and anger towards WWE. Here are some of the better reactions, including from some of the released wrestlers: [This post contains video, click to play] Stop supporting a company that has ZERO respect for their talent. 205 Live Results – August 27, 2021

205 Live Date: August 27, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph I think we can officially call this the new 205 Live, which is still not live and now has little to do with 205. Since it’s WWE though and it’s all about branding, expect them to keep the name because of the great history and pride associated with the low level, often forgotten former cruiserweight show. Let’s get to it. Grayson Waller vs. Andre Chase Drake Maverick joins commentary as Chase works on the arm to start. Maverick can’t pick out any potential breakout stars around here, which might be due to no one knowing who is actually on the roster. Waller fights up and sends him outside but stops to yell at Maverick, allowing Chase to get in a shot from behind. A high crossbody gives Waller two but Chase is back with a belly to back for his own near fall. Some shoulders to Waller’s banged up ribs keep him in trouble until he cuts off a shoulder with a knee ..

WWE Hall Of Famer Confirmed For Takeover: In Your House

Welcome back. There are so many wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and some of them are a lot more famous than others. Some of these names are so well known that they can be gone for years before making a return and having quite the impact of their own. That has been the case again in recent weeks with a certain legend and now we are going to be seeing him again. WWE.com is advertising Ted DiBiase to appear at next weekend’s NXT Takeover: In Your House. DiBiase is advertised for the match involving LA Knight and Cameron Grimes, who he has been appearing with in recent weeks. Grimes and Drake have been competing for the right to be carry on DiBiase’s legacy as the Million Dollar Man, though there is no word on any specific prize for the winner. DiBiase has been around as of late. NXT Live Coverage And Results – December 23, 2020

NXT Date: December 23, 2020 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Winter Park, Florida Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph It’s the Christmas show as we have A Very Gargano Christmas. That’s special enough, but this show is also not up against Dynamite due to an NBA game so it should be interesting to see what they have on their own. We do have a title match tonight as the Tag Team Titles are on the line in a street fight. Let’s get to it. Tag Team Titles: Killian Dain/Drake Maverick vs. Oney Lorcan/Danny Burch Lorcan and Burch are defending in a street fight but Dain and Maverick jump them from behind. The champs are in some early trouble but Maverick gets taken down so Dain can be double teamed. We settle down to Dain in trouble in the corner but managing to backdrop Burch onto a pair of chairs. Maverick comes in without a tag to trip Lorcan down and Dain slams him onto Lorcan for a bonus. Dain hits a running boot in the corner to Lorcan and takes him to the floor, ..

205 Live Results – August 21, 2020

205 Live Date: August 21, 2020 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Drew Gulak, Vic Joseph What does it mean when 205 Live comes to the Thunderdome? Probably not all that much as last week’s show was pretty much nothing. That’s what happens when you fall back on the same wrestlers who didn’t work in the first place and still don’t now that more time has passed. Maybe they can go with some of the good stuff this time so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Drake Maverick vs. Tehuti Miles Hold on though as Miles wants to make sure that his shiny fanny pack is placed in the corner before heading outside. After taking his time combing his hair, Miles comes back in for a lockup so he can take Drake down. Maverick goes after him in the corner so Miles hides in the ropes and stops to comb his hair. That earns him a dropkick to the floor and the beating is on, with Gulak suggesting that his former boss get him. Miles manages to send Maverick back first into the post for two..

VIDEO: Major Reveal And Angle On NXT

So that’s who it is. Masks are a unique aspect of wrestling and can offer a lot of different ways to go. While they occasionally appear in American wrestling, they play a much bigger role in Mexico, where they are often a wrestler’s entire identity. Some wrestlers bring their masks with them to America, but one of the more prominent in WWE took his off in a surprise. Last week on NXT, El Hijo del Fantasma won the NXT Cruiserweight Title by defeating Drake Maverick in a tournament final. It was quite the surprise win for Fantasma as he made his in-ring debut for the company during the tournament. Winning the title so soon into his NXT career was rather impressive, but it turns out that he had a major move to make in his first week as champion. This was a cool reveal. Check out the big segment: During this week’s NXT, Maverick congratulated Fantasma on his win and asked for a rematch. Before anything else could happen, two masked men who had been attempting to abduct Fantasma in rece..
