Kenny Omega Probably Not Heading to WWE Next Year

Kenny Omega’s current contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling expires January 31st of next year, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be headed to WWE anytime soon.

Dave Meltzer mentioned in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there is very little talk of him leaving the promotion. Omega has said himself that barring any unforeseen issues, he plans on signing with New Japan for another year. Omega’s new deal, if he chooses to stick around, would see his pay increase considerable and it would give him extra authority as a creative voice in all his angles.

Omega told Tokyo Sports last month that he’s staying with New Japan. “I’m staying in New Japan 100 percent,” Omega said. “This is where wrestlers can be themselves and fight for themselves. I want to show how great a place it is.”

Omega has already been announced for shows beyond his NJPW obligations, such as the Ring Of Honor Supercard of Honor on April 7. Omega is scheduled to face WWE Superstar Chris Jericho at the Wrestle Kingdom 12 event on January 4th in a one-and-done match.
