NXT Live Coverage And Results – May 23, 2018

NXT
Date: May 23, 2018
Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida
Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Percy Watson, Mauro Ranallo
The build to Chicago is slowly taking form with Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch looking likely to challenge for the Tag Team Titles. Other than that, we really don’t have anything set up yet. That being said, NXT has an amazing track record of being able to catch up in a hurry so it’s not like they’re in any real trouble. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Jonathan Coachman is in the front row.
Heavy Machinery vs. TM61 Dozovic goes with the power to start and runs Thorn over with a shoulder, followed by a double shoulder to give Knight two. Everything breaks down for a few seconds with Miller being run over as well while Thorn is put in the Tree of Woe. That allows Miller to be driven into his partner’s ribs as this is one sided so far. A shot to the back cuts Knight off though and the fans stay completely behind Heavy Machinery. ..

SmackDown Live Ratings And Viewership – May 22, 2018

And down they go again. The Money in the Bank season hasn’t been kind to the WWE’s ratings and viewership numbers. No matter how you look at it, the fans just don’t seem interested in what WWE is offering. Really, it’s not that surprising given how none of this matters at the moment. So much of this is stuff that can be read up on in a recap and isn’t really must see TV. Tuesday’s SmackDown Live was full of more qualifying matches so did the trend continue? According to 411mania.com, this week’s episode of SmackDown Live drew a .68 rating in the 18-49 demographic rating and 2.195 million viewers. These numbers are down 3% and 5% respectively from last week’s .7 demographic rating and 2.298 million viewers respectively. Both are the lowest since Halloween of 2017 when the show drew a .65 demographic rating and 2.119 million viewers. The show was headlined by a match between Daniel Bryan and Jeff Hardy for the right to face Samoa Joe next week in a Money in the Bank qualifying match.

Cody Reveals Which Legacy Member He Was “Incredibly Jealous” Of

Cody [Rhodes] was a guest on Edge & Christian’s Podcast of Awesomeness where the former ROH Champion revealed which Legacy member he was incredibly jealous of during their time as a team. Cody opens up by explaining why Rey Mysterio means so much to him, recalling what the former WWE Champion had done for him: “I have a Wookiee life debt to Rey Mysterio and he doesn’t even know it. Rey was kind of the one who ribbed me and brought me into the office that day with Vince [McMahon] and said, ‘I want to work Cody at WrestleMania – he [has] got some good ideas.’ And I did, thank God. And that’s where I think Vince kind of even played me. He said, like, ‘oh, do you have it on paper?’ and I actually had it on paper in my bag and I handed it to him. And after that, he kind of just grumbled and I got a ‘yes’ out of that grumble. I owe Rey everything I have, man. He [doesn’t] even know. He [doesn’t] even spell my name right, C-O-D-E-Y. That’s got to be a rib.”

Did Daniel Bryan Feel Any Ring Rust After His Return To Competition?

Daniel Bryan recently spoke with the Sport Bible, where he discussed a number of topics. Among them were if he had any ‘ring rust’ upon being cleared to return to in-ring competition, making adjustments to his wrestling style, future opponents and more. Below are some highlights from the interview:
On having any ‘ring rust’:
“I honestly didn’t feel any ring rust. It was strange because the day I was cleared, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens attacked me and I did the running dropkicks – just dropkick, dropkick, dropkick.
“You have to understand, I wasn’t prepared for this to happen. I’m wearing the shoes which I’m wearing now – which are from a thrift store and they’re a half size too big! I was wearing a sportscoat and I haven’t done the dropkick in the corner for three years – it’s a very exhausting thing to do because you’re sprinting, running, jumping and then kick.
“I was a little bit concerned but that night I didn’t feel tired or anything, I was excited, it was fun. Same thing at Wr..

When Will The Miz’s New Show Debut On USA?

It had been previously reported that The Miz will be starring in a new reality show on the USA Network, entitled “Miz and Mrs.” The show will be a six-episode, half-hour series, that will feature the couple becoming parents for the first time. But, when will the show air?
The A-Lister answered that question last night on Smackdown Live, saying that the show will premiere on Tuesday, July 24 at 10/9 C, immediately following Smackdown Live.
You can see a clip of the announcement below:

The Miz and his wife, Maryse, welcomed their first child into the world, Monroe Sky Mizanin, on March 27 of this year.
He is currently scheduled to compete in the upcoming Money In The Bank Ladder Match at the pay-per-view of the same name.
Editor’s Opinion:
I have to admit that I am very much looking forward to this mini-series. The Miz has been one of my favorite performers for a long time, and it will be neat to take a look into his personal life as a pa..

Enzo Amore Potentially Takes Dig At WWE For His Release

Enzo Amore was fired from WWE in January of this year due to being under investigation for rape allegations. Now that he has been cleared, he has returned to social media, potentially taking a dig at WWE for releasing him. When he was originally released from the company, it was noted that WWE made the decision after he refused to inform them about the investigation.
When the investigation concluded, Amore’s attorney noted that the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion was not made aware of the claims until after it exploded onto social media.
WWE usually wish their Superstars well in their future endeavors, but Amore was not one of those Superstars. This was likely due to the frustration that everything went public during Raw 25 and the severe nature of the claims by Amore’s accuser.
Amore took to his Instagram account during a series of messages to reference the ‘future endeavors,’ explaining that it was the fans who cared about him and wished him luck in his future and trusted him wh..

How Much Do WWE Superstars Make At Each House Show?

Ringside News recently revealed how much money WWE Superstars make competing at each house show throughout the week. WWE Superstars are asked to pay their own road expenses. While this doesn’t add up to a lot of money, it still comes out of their paycheck.
With the news that WWE signed SmackDown Live to FOX for $1 billion, many are asking if the paychecks for people on the roster will improve.
Dave Meltzer commented on this very thing on Wrestling Observer Radio earlier this week. Here is what he had to say: “The way that they do things you are paid on the house. Which is ridiculous now. I mean it’s been ridiculous for 10 years. Yeah, I mean it’s completely ridiculous now. I mean the house is not the revenue stream.”
“What percentage is fair for them to get? I mean I don’t know if 50% is fair I mean 8% sounds awful low to me and that’s what they’re getting. With this kind of money, it probably makes it down to 5% unless they get what they’re gonna get.”

What Happened Before And After SmackDown Live?

Double bonus. You can never guess what you might get for a dark match. It might be something fresh that you’ve never seen before, or it might be what I somehow got stuck with: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Dolph Ziggler four times in a row (plus a house show). Sometimes though you get a good one to start and a big one to end the night, which can make the shows that much better. That seems to be the case this week. You can check out our full SmackDown Live results right here.
According to Wrestlinginc.com, the pre-show dark match this week saw Carmella successfully defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against Becky Lynch with Carmella getting the pin via a rollup. Also according to Wrestlinginc.com, the post-205 Live dark match was AJ Styles successfully defending the WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura. This match was a short one with the Bar running in for the disqualification. Anderson and Gallows made the save and posed with Styles to end the show.

What Stipulation Did Shinsuke Nakamura Pick For His Match With AJ Styles?

Round five. It’s very rare anymore in wrestling to see a big feud go to five major matches. Fans just don’t have the patience to sit through something like that but every once in a while, it just might happen. That’s the case with Shinsuke Nakamura vs. AJ Styles for the SmackDown World Title and it’s about to pick up even more. Last week, Nakamura defeated Styles in a non-title match, earning the right to pick the stipulation for their next title match at Money in the Bank. Tonight, we found out what Nakamura had in mind. This week on SmackDown Live, Nakamura and Styles got in another brawl that left Styles laying after a chair shot and a Kinshasa knee strike to the head. With Styles down, Nakamura counted to ten and announced that he wanted the match to be a Last Man Standing match, which was confirmed later in the show. This is the fifth match between the two of them with Styles winning the first, two draws, and Nakamura winning the fourth to tie the series up again.
It was a big fi..

SmackDown Tag Team Title Match Set For Money In The Bank

You can pad it out with some bludgeoning. Back at WrestleMania 34, the Bludgeon Brothers won the Smackdown Tag Team Titles in a triple threat match by defeating the defending Usos and fellow challenges the New Day. Since then the Brothers have defeated the Usos again, meaning it’s time for some fresh challengers. Those challengers were set up this week on SmackDown Live. On this week’s episode, Anderson and Gallows defeated the Usos to become the new #1 contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles with their shot taking place at Money in the Bank next month. Anderson and Gallows are former Raw Tag Team Champions and were brought over to the SmackDown Live Roster in the Superstar Shakeup last month. This was the team’s first regular tag match as part of their new brand.
Check out what Anderson and Gallows had to say after their big win.
