“Beautiful” Bobby Eaton Passes Away At Age 62

We have some sad news to report this morning as professional wrestling legend “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton has passed away at the age of 62. The news was confirmed by his sister, Debbie Lewis, via Facebook.
From WrestlingInc.com:
Eaton was hospitalized in late July after suffering a bad fall. He reportedly broke several fingers and damaged his hip during the fall. It’s unknown if his passing is related to the earlier accident.
Eaton was best known for his work as one half of The Midnight Express. Under the management of Jim Cornette, he originally teamed with Dennis Condrey and, later on, with Stan Lane. A pioneer in the art of tag team wrestling, he also tagged with the likes of Arn Anderson, Koko B. Ware, Steve Keirn, and William Regal.

New #1 Contender Named During This Week’s AEW Dynamite

Looks like he’s next. Titles are what ultimately matter the most in wrestling more often than not. It is a rather simple idea and something that any wrestling fan can understand. Someone has a big shiny belt and someone else wants it. This is the kind of thing that can set up a huge match in a hurry, which is what we are seeing again in what could be quite the showdown.
This week on AEW Dynamite, Christian Cage was named the new #1 ranked contender after defeating the Blade. Cage mentioned that he was in AEW to win titles and promised to be at next week’s AEW Rampage to see World Champion Kenny Omega. Earlier in the show, Omega said that he had no challenger for his title and that he was considering retiring as champion. There is no word on when the match will take place, assuming it does.
This could be a showdown. Check out the two of them on their own and together:

VIDEO: Son Of Famous Wrestler Makes Cameo Debut

Did you catch him? There are several different kinds of wrestlers in the industry and some of them are going to have different stories. You have wrestlers who get into the industry because they are long time fans and others who just jump in because they are amazing athletes. There is another group on top of that though, and now we have seen one of them debut in a cameo.
Bronson Rechsteiner, the son of Rick Steiner, made his NXT debut during this week’s show in a cameo role as a security guard. Rechsteiner tried to hold back Samoa Joe from getting to Karrion Kross, only to get beaten up and choked out with the Koquina Clutch. Signing with NXT in February, Rechsteiner is a former NCAA All-American running back and the nephew of Scott Steiner. There is no word on when he will be wrestling his first match.
It’s a good family. Check out Rechsteiner’s debut and his more famous wrestling relatives:

Huge Retirement Teased To End AEW Dynamite

It happens to everyone. While it might not seem like it at times, at some point, every wrestler is going to hang it up eventually. One day, every wrestler is going to step out of the ring for the last time, though some have a far longer career than others. That can make for some emotional roller coasters and we got another one of those this week with quite the head fake.
The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Malakai Black defeat Cody Rhodes in less than five minutes. After the match was over, Rhodes spoke about his career and suggested that it might be time for someone new to step in. He took his boot off, a sigh of retiring from wrestling, and was attacked by Black to end the show. There is no word on whether Rhodes is planning on retiring or if this is just an angle. Rhodes is expected to go off to film the Go Big Show for TBS in the coming weeks.
Rhodes has had a heck of a time in AEW. Check out what he has done there:

VIDEO: WWE Hands Out Its Half Year Awards

Get the envelopes ready. At some point or another, every wrestling fan has debated their favorites with someone. It might be a match a move, a theme song, a show or something else. That’s how wrestling fandom works and there is nothing wrong with it whatsoever. It is a rite of passage for wrestling fans and now WWE is getting involved with the concept in something of an official way.
During this week’s edition of the Bump, WWE presented its semi-annual Bumpy Awards. The awards honor the best of the first six months of the year, including various wrestling and online awards. AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – August 4, 2021

Dynamite
Date: August 4, 2021
Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida
Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross, Excalibur
We’re back in Jacksonville for Homecoming as we have the fifth week in a row with some kind of a special themed show. That could include a lot of different things, including Chris Jericho vs. Juventud Guerrera of all people? Why? Well he wrestled in WCW in the 90s so he’s fair game. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Juventud Guerrera vs. Chris Jericho MJF is on commentary and Jericho has to hit a move off the top to win. The once again masked Juvy chops away to start and grabs a headscissors to send Jericho outside. Air Juvy takes Jericho down again and but he slips out of the Juvy Driver back inside. Jericho takes him outside and chops away, followed by a high crossbody for two back inside. Jericho forearms him down but runs into a superkick (MJF: “I taught him that.”). A low kick to the face sets up the Rings of Saturn to Jericho, who powers up with ease…

John Cena Provides Interesting Update On His WWE Future After Summerslam

Maybe one more? There are a lot of famous names in WWE history but only a handful of them can be described as the face of the company. Over the years, there have been a handful of them at most and WWE is lucky enough to have one of them around today. That would be John Cena, who is now mainly an actor but does wrestle occasionally. Now we might be seeing more of the latter.
Cena was recently interviewed by Forbes to promote his new movie The Suicide Squad. During the interview, Cena mentioned that he would be interested in coming back to WWE after Summerslam. Cena said that he had a month off and wound up back in WWE, meaning that it was possible for him to wrestle again in the future as his schedule permits. While Cena is scheduled to head to Europe to film a movie in August, he is also scheduled for the September 10 SmackDown in Madison Square Garden in New York City. Cena will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at Summerslam on August 21.
Cena has been around a bit as ..

REVIEW: AEW All Out 2020: This Is A Miss?

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
All Out 2020
Date: September 5, 2020
Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida
Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross, Excalibur
They’re back on pay per view and for once that’s a rather nice thing to see. AEW has a great history with the big shows and hopefully we continue the streak here. The main events are Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy where you can win by throwing the other one in a vat of mimosa and Jon Moxley defending the World Title against MJF. Let’s get to it.

KB’s Review: It’s All About The Presentation

I think I have officially covered every bad story going in wrestling at the moment, plus the few good ones. I’ve complained about Charlotte being Charlotte, I’ve praised Roman Reigns, I’ve talked about how bad Monday Night Raw is and I’ve praised Cameron Grimes. I would talk about Nick Gage, but this is a wrestling column so we’ll stick to the topic. Since there is a grand total of nothing else interesting enough to talk about for a few pages going right now, it’s time for a history lesson.
I love the Rise and Fall of ECW. While I wasn’t an ECW fan, their story was one of the most amazing in all of wrestling history, as they managed to take almost nothing and turned it into one of the most influential promotions in history. On the DVD, Paul Heyman said something that has always stuck with me in regards to wrestling (and just about everything else):
“It’s all about the presentation.”
You can have the worst ideas, storylines, angles, characters or anything else, but if you present the..

Allegiant Stadium Announces Change Of Rules For Summerslam

This could shake things up a bit. The biggest story going at the moment is of course the Coronavirus pandemic, which is still changing various aspects of everyone’s day to day lives. That is the case with the wrestling industry as well and it seems likely to be the case for a long time to come. It seems that we are going to see a big adjustment to one of the biggest shows of the year.
The official website of Allegiant Stadium, the home of Summerslam 2021, has issued a statement saying that everyone attending any upcoming events, including Summerslam, must wear a mask. There is currently no vaccination requirement for the show, though that may change in the future. This comes as WWE is rumored to be worried about Summerslam possibly being canceled due to a potential ban on mass gatherings. Summerslam is scheduled to take place on August 21.
WWE knows a thing or two about masks. Check out some looks at various masks over the years:

Former WWE Star Likely Signing With AEW Soon

She’s worth it. AEW has done a lot of good things in its still relatively short existence and that has made for some interesting moments. In addition to the company developing its main division, its women’s division has come a very long way as well. The company always needs some fresh talent to restock the shelves though and now they might have another name coming in.
According to Fightful Select, Ruby Soho, formerly known as Ruby Riott in WWE, is expected to be signed to AEW as soon as her no compete clause expires. Her clause expires just before All Out on September 5, meaning she could appear at the show. Soho has not appeared for any kind of event since her release on June 2. There is no word on what she would be doing in AEW.
Soho has the talent. Check out her time in WWE:

RUMOR: WWE Worried Summerslam Will Be Canceled, Touring In Jeopardy

So soon? Last month, WWE returned to the road with fans in attendance for the first time in over fifteen months. That is the kind of change that the company has been waiting on for a very long time now and it is something that could shake up the way everything works. It was a huge moment, but it seems that it might have been the first of very few similar moments.
According to Bodyslam.net, WWE is worried that Summerslam will not be able to be held in Allegiant Stadium as expected, along with the rest of their events being moved back into the Thunderdome. This comes as the Delta variant of the Coronavirus spreads and the number of fully vaccinated Americans remains low. While a lockdown is no longer expected, WWE is expecting a ban on mass gatherings within the next few weeks. It is not clear where the new Thunderdome would be located.
You remember the Thunderdome right? Check out what WWE might need again:
