I wouldn’t call that great. There are a lot of wrestling promotions in the world, with some of them being a lot more well known than others. One thing that they all have in common though is that they all had to start somewhere, because every promotion had its first show at some point. That can be a success or a failure, and we might be seeing a case of the latter in this one.
This coming Saturday, July 9, Wrestling Entertainment Series is scheduled to hold its first event at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England. According to journalist Adam Callier, the event has sold less than 350 tickets for a venue that holds 10,000 people. The event has already been postponed from June and several wrestlers have announced that they will not be at the show on the new date. One, the former Nia Jax, has complained about the show still advertising her despite her making it clear she will not be there.

Another kind of champion. Wrestling has been around for a long time now and there is a history of other athletes coming in to see what they can do in the sport. That is the kind of thing that can make for some interesting moments as other athletes get to try their hand at something else. It has worked for a very long time now and we might be getting to see it again on a big stage.
According to GiveMeSport, boxing Heavyweight Champion of the World Tyson Fury is in talks with WWE to return to the company later this year. The appearance, which may or may not be a match, would tie in with WWE’s Clash At The Castle in Cardiff, Wales on September 3. There is no word on what Fury will be doing on the show. Fury previously wrestled a match at Crown Jewel 2019, defeating Braun Strowman via countout.
Opinion: This is the kind of appearance that makes sense and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Fury get back in the ring. Fury is at the point where he can do what he wants and if that include..

It’s another special night this week, as we have the Great American Bash. That means we have a stacked card, including multiple title matches. The main event is Cameron Grimes challenging Bron Breakker for the NXT Title, which should be a heck of a match. NXT does well enough with these shows so let’s get to it.
The opening video is at a cookout, hosted by Fallon Henley, Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs. Most of the roster is there, with Jensen enjoying the women in the pool and wrestlers making various wrestling related threats.
Tag Team Titles: Cora Jade/Roxanne Perez vs. Toxic Attraction Jade and Perez are challenging and Jade takes Jayne down early on. A running knee against the ropes gets two on Jayne and it’s off to Perez to forearm Dolin. Back with Perez and Jayne trading pump kicks for a double knockdown, setting up a double tag. Jade takes over on Jayne’s arm and ..

Who are you? There are a lot of talented stars in the wrestling world today and WWE has quite a few of them. It can be a lot of fun to watch a lot of them, but at the same time, those wrestlers have to be replaced at some point. That can make for some interesting moments, but one of the most important parts is that you have to get people’s attention. That might have been the case this week.
This week’s NXT featured two teases, with at least one wrestler being advertised. First up, a QR code appeared on the screen, telling fans to scan it. Scanning it brought up an image saying “8:10:11”, though there is no word on what that means. Later in the show, someone spoke about his love and skill with math, saying it taught him how to fight. His name was given as Axiom, but his face was never seen. There is no word on when Axiom will debut.

It makes wrestling go around. There are a lot of titles in the wrestling world and that almost has to be the case. With so many wrestlers around, it makes sense to keep championships active. Despite there being quite a few titles, having a title change hands still means something in modern wrestling. That was the case again this week, as new champions were crowned.
At NXT’s Great American Bash, the team of Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez defeated Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne to win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles. This is the first NXT title for Jade and Perez and ends Toxic Attraction’s second reign at 91 days. Also on the show, North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, Tag Team Champions the Creed Brothers and NXT Champion Bron Breakker all retained their titles.
Opinion: You had to have one of those title reigns end at such a major show and the Women’s Tag Team Titles were the best option. I’m not sold on the idea of Toxic Attraction being away from the titles for long, a..

Add it to the list. The rise of the internet and streaming services have changed the way wrestling works. Fans are now able to see all of the content that they want with almost no limitations, as wrestling from around the world is now open before them. This includes even smaller territories, but now one of them might be leading to a much bigger broadcasting deal down the road.
According to Fightful Select, a previously rumored deal between Netflix and Ohio Valley Wrestling would include a special behind the scenes show. The deal also includes the rights of first refusal for Ohio Valley Wrestling’s televisions rights. Should Netflix get into the live streaming business, they could be a potential bidder for the rights to WWE or AEW programming. WWE’s deals with USA and FOX and AEW’s deal with WarnerMedia all expire in 2024.
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could be a game changer for the industry. I don’t know if Ohio Valley Wrestling is going to set the streaming world on fire,..

They have a plan for that. WWE is less than a month away from Summerslam and that means the card is starting to come together. The company has a lot to do still, though some of the stories have already been set in motion. What matters is setting up the card in advance and making you want to see the show. That is the case with another match as WWE has planted some seeds.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is planning to have Riddle face Seth Rollins at Summerslam. This comes after the two have been attacking each other in recent weeks, including Riddle hitting Rollins with an RKO after Rollins defeated Ezekiel this week on Monday Night Raw. There is no word on when the match will be set up, though it will be their second singles match, following a match in February.
Opinion: This is the kind of match that you know is coming and it makes sense to have everything set up in advance. I could go for the two of them facing each other, as it would feel like a pretty big match. Riddle..

Hold tight because the show is not over. WWE has a lot of television content in any given week and that is quite the issue to deal with a lot of the time. Just Monday Night Raw and SmackDown fill in five hours of television a week but sometimes WWE has even more than that. It was the case this week, as there was a little something extra to cover after the show was over.
The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Becky Lynch defeat Asuka in a no holds barred match. As a result of the ring, Lynch declared that she was back to end the show. Following the show, Lynch cut a promo on the crowd, declaring herself the greatest of all time and making a goat sound. The match ended a rivalry between the two, which began when Asuka’s return interrupted Lynch’s speech earlier this year.

Summerslam 2021

We’re back in front of a full stadium and that could make things interesting. Throw in the fact that this is on a Saturday for once and there is a different energy to the whole thing. Put them together and what have you got? There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster and it can be difficult to keep track of all of them. At some point they need to do something to make them stand out and that is not always easy. Not having the right story or gimmick can be quite the mess but now two stars seem to have joined forces, at least for the time being.
This week’s Monday Night Raw, AJ Styles defeated the Miz in a singles match. After the match was over, Ciampa attacked Styles, with Miz joining in. Miz and Ciampa then shook hands, suggesting that the two had formed an alliance. This comes after Ciampa has attacked various wrestlers in recent weeks, though the two had worked together in a limited capacity in May.
Opinion: I’m not sure where this is going but at least Ciampa is doing something. That being said, this feels like a way for Miz to have a partner to face Logan Paul, perhaps at Summerslam, and there is a good chance that Ciampa takes the fall in the match. Maybe..

That could be worse. Injuries are one of the few universal problems in wrestling and there is no way around them. No matter who you are, there is always the chance that you are going to get hurt. Unfortunately some of those injuries can be very serious and leave someone on the shelf for a long time. That is the case again, but now we have a positive update.
On March 11, Big E suffered a broken neck during a match on SmackDown. Big E has offered another update, saying that his C1 vertebrae is not forming new bone and there will be another scan at the one year mark of his recovery. However, surgery is off the table and Big E should be able to heal on his own. There is no word on when or if Big E will be able to wrestle again.
Update! My C1 isn’t ossifying (forming bone) quite yet. The current plan is to get more scans at the one year mark & see how it’s progressing. The great news is I feel tremendous & surgery is off the table.

Money talks. Celebrities have a long history of being involved in wrestling and it makes a lot of sense. Fans are interested in seeing what someone from outside the wrestling world can do there and it can make for some interesting results. That is the case again in WWE with a new signee, and it turns out that the new star has a bit more authority than most regular wrestlers.
Last week, social media star Logan Paul officially signed with WWE. During his signing, Paul cut a promo on the Miz, promising that he was coming for him. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is because Paul is reportedly “calling the shots” with WWE and wants to be presented as the hero in the story. The two are expected to face off at Summerslam following Miz attacking Paul at WrestleMania 38.
Opinion: This is one of those things that you do not get to see very often but it does make some sense. Paul is a star and someone who does not need WWE to be seen as a big deal. It makes sense for WWE to let him h..
