Bayley Questions Her Future On Steve Austin’s Podcast
WWE RAW superstar Bayley revealed the difficulties her on-screen persona encountered since entering the main roster and the possibilities to “evolve.”
During the second sit-down for Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast, Steve asked the former RAW women’s champion to elaborate on the “weird spot” in her current career.
“It’s hard to explain. I think I just, I guess it’s time to evolve because I’ve been doing what I’ve been doing for the past four years but you always need to evolve, and I plan on doing this for a really long time so I know it needs to go just like in different directions and maybe a different attitude,” said Bayley, referencing how her character wouldn’t use the kendo stick against Alexa Bliss at the latest Extreme Rules pay per view.
Stone Cold questioned if Bayley’s thoughts were based on an “internal feeling” such as crowd response or if the gimmick is feeling repetitive. While the crowd reaction did get to Bayley, she noted there might not be a need to completely revamp her character.
Austin reassured Bayley that questioning a gimmick is natural and sometimes the wrestler simply needs to amplify their intensity. Bayley continued to query if her character’s evolution could include the removal of her ponytail, cutting her hair, different ring gear, or changing some of her moves. She also mentioned a conversation with Seth Rollins, who recently changed his character from heel to babyface. Rollins said he simply was more aggressive, or “badass,” when making the transition from heel.
Unlike her time in NXT where Triple H would have input on her character, he doesn’t have much time or control with Bayley on the main roster.
“I guess I would have to go to my writers or go to Vince,” Bayley said, noting she feels comfortable talking to Vince McMahon.
Austin told Bayley to make sure her thoughts are well-planned before presenting McMahon with any new ideas, which was a sentiment Triple H also told the former NXT and RAW Women’s Champion.
