Double Or Nothing 2021
Date: May 30, 2021

Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross, Excalibur
We return to pay per view and that is a nice feeling to have. The card is absolutely stacked and one of the biggest that AEW has had in recent or even long term memory. Possibly the most important story here is the fact that the fans are back in full capacity, meaning it will be even more energized than usual. Let’s get to it.
Buy-In Show: NWA Women’s Title: Riho vs. Serena Deeb Deeb is defending and cranks on a headlock to start. That doesn’t last long as Riho bridges up and offers a handshake. Deeb slaps her in the face instead so Riho knocks her into the corner, setting up a high crossbody. Back up and the Serenity Lock is blocked so Deeb dragon screw legwhips her into the corner. The leg cranking begins before Deeb is sent out to the apron.
Riho charges into a choke, setting up an inverted Gory Special for a pretty cool visual. With that brok..

Title Change Takes Place At AEW Double Or Nothing

That’s how you make history. Titles can be a huge deal in a wrestler’s career as they can validate that someone has moved up to the next level. Even if a wrestler is pretty clearly already on the next level, it can mean a lot to officially see them crowned as the next star of the division. That was the case on Sunday night, with a title change a long time in the making.
Britt Baker won the AEW Women’s Title at AEW Double Or Nothing, becoming the champion for the first time in her career. Baker defeated Hikaru Shida via submission with the Lockjaw to win the title. The win makes Baker the fourth champion in the title’s history and ends Shida’s record long reign at 372 days. This was Baker’s first ever singles shot at the title.
It was a long time coming. Check out how Baker got here:

Former WWE Star Makes AEW Debut At Double Or Nothing

That was a surprise. Just about two years ago, All Elite Wrestling held their first event with Double Or Nothing. The event has become their signature show and already has some traditions of its own. One of those is the Casino Battle Royal, which can feature a surprise entrant. That was the case again this year, as a former champion in WWE made their debut.
Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush made his AEW debut during the Casino Battle Royal at AEW Double Or Nothing. Rush was the final entrant as the Joker but was eliminated from the match by Matt Hardy. Rush has been wrestling in Major League Wrestling and it is not clear if he has signed a long term deal with AEW. Jungle Boy won the match, earning a future AEW World Title shot.
You might remember Rush. Check out some of his work in the ring:

AEW Double Or Nothing 2021 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

I always get a bit excited for an AEW pay per view because they have earned the reputation of putting on good shows. Aside from their misfire with the exploding ring fiasco at Full Gear, AEW has not had a truly bad pay per view or even that many bad pay per view moments in their history. They are getting another chance to keep that record strong and hopefully they can pull it off. Let’s get to it
Buy-In: NWA Women’s Title: Serena Deeb(c) vs. Riho There is a bit of history here as Riho beat Deeb in the #1 contenders tournament a few months back. The title has been kind of a weird addition to AEW as it only pops in every so often and there are rarely any interesting stories involved. Riho has not been around so often lately, but she is always presented as one of the bigger stars in the company. Deeb is awesome at what she does though and now gets the chance to showcase herself.
I’ll take Deeb to retain here as it is almost hard to fathom the NWA title changing hands on an AEW show. Thi..

Former WWE Champion Returning On Monday Night Raw

Welcome back. With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, it can be hard to keep track of everyone from time to time. On occasion, you will see some of those wrestlers step away for one reason or another, but it rarely means that they are going to be gone for good. That is the case again on Monday Night Raw, as a star is going to be making his return next week.
WWE has confirmed that the Miz will be returning to television on next week’s Monday Night Raw as part of MizTV, with special guests Rhea Ripley and Charlotte. This will be Miz’s first appearance since WrestleMania Backlash, when he and Damian Priest had to fight off a horde of zombies during the match. Following his loss, Miz was attacked by the zombies and has not been seen since.
It is not clear when Miz will be wrestling again, as he reportedly suffered a torn ACL during the match. There have been conflicting reports over the severity of the injury, as a partial tear could mean Miz is only out for several weeks as opposed to..

Update On Keith Lee’s Absence From WWE TV

That clears a few things up. Sometimes in wrestling, you see things that do not have an explanation. This can be rather frustrating as you want to know what is going on but for one reason or another, there is no information available. It can lead to some interesting speculation, but finding out what is going on can clear up a lot of things. That seems to be the case again.
Keith Lee has not been seen on WWE television since February and has only made a single appearance on any WWE platform since early April. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has not medically cleared him to wrestle for an undisclosed reason. Lee has decided to keep his situation private, though earlier this week he suggested that he would explain the situation soon. There is no word on when Lee will be back on television.
Lee was called up to the main roster in August 2020 and has seen limited success. While he has had a handful of high profile matches, his lone pay per view singles victory came at ..

Interesting Reason For WWE Changing Summerslam Scheduling

It’s a different way to go. The big story in WWE at the moment is the return of fans to live events. This has allowed WWE to start moving things back to normal, which includes getting ready for some of their bigger shows of the year. One of those shows is Summerslam, which will be doing things a little bit differently this time. Now we know more about why.
Earlier this week, WWE announced that this year’s Summerslam will air on Saturday, August 21, marking the first time the show has ever aired on a Saturday. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE made the move because the desired venue for the show, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, wanted the show on a Saturday. However, WWE made the announcement without mentioning a location. The biggest problem with the show being held in Las Vegas is a Manny Pacquiao boxing match being held in Las Vegas on the same night. Summerslam’s location will be announced on June 5.
Summerslam has a great history of its own. Check out some of its awesome..

RUMOR: WWE Eyeing Celebrity As Summerslam Guest Host

It could help things. Celebrities have been part of wrestling forever and that has certainly been the case in WWE. WrestleMania was at least partially built on the amount of celebrity appearances at the event and WWE has used the same pattern for years. It makes a lot of sense to go this way, and it seems that the same sense will be applied this year at Summerslam.
According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men podcast, singer Cardi B. will be the guest host of this year’s Summerslam. There is no word on what Cardi B. will be doing at the show or if she will be performing. WWE has yet to confirm the announcement. This comes after Cardi B. had a Twitter exchange with Lacey Evans earlier this year, which led to speculation over a possible WrestleMania appearance which did not take place. Summerslam will be held on August 21 in a location to be announced next week.
I can confirm that I was told cardi b is the host for SummerSlam this year. pic.twitter.com/jNQmEMSbjJ

Surprising Backstage Update On Michael Cole

I’d say he has earned it. There are certain people who have been around WWE for a very long time and it is hard to imagine the company without them. That might not mean they are the most popular, but it does make them a major part of the promotion. One of those names has been around for over twenty years and is apparently starting to get more positive recognition.
According to Fightful Select, the WWE locker room has recently become more appreciative of Michael Cole. This includes Cole making a mistake in the main event of the first night of WrestleMania, when he said that Sasha Banks kicked out rather than being pinned by Bianca Belair. The incident was viewed as nothing more than a mistake and everyone moved on, including Cole. This comes amid recent changes to the Monday Night Raw broadcast team.
Cole really is good at what he does. Check out some of his moments in WWE:

Kurt Angle Teases Coming Out Of Retirement

One more time? Wrestling is a unique sport in that retirements do not exactly carry the most weight. There have been countless instances of a wrestler hanging up their boots and then coming back later on for either one more match or even one more run. That is not the worst problem to have, but it is rarely a special feeling. Now another legend is teasing trying it again.
Kurt Angle has sent out a tweet saying that the rumors of John Cena returning to WWE have him thinking about his own retirement. Included is a clip saying “so you’re telling me there’s a chance”. Angle, 52, wrestled his retirement match at WrestleMania 35 in a loss to Baron Corbin. Should he return, it is not clear where he would wrestle, after being released from WWE last year.
Angle debuted for WWE in 1999 and worked for the company until 2006, when he requested his release and left for TNA Wrestling. Following a ten year run with the promotion, Angle returned to WWE, where he stayed for three more years, including..

REVIEW: Hell In A Cell 2017: Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Hell in a Cell 2017
Date: October 8, 2017
Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan
Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Corey Graves
It’s time for the Shane McMahon Does Something Stupid Show. The main event tonight is Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens inside the show’s namesake structure as Shane fights to defend his family’s honor. Other than that we have the Usos challenging the New Day for the Tag Team Titles inside the Cell too. Let’s get to it.
On the Kickoff Show, Tye Dillinger mentions to Daniel Br..

AEW Broadcaster Caught Using Racial Stereotype On Hot Mic

That won’t go well. Sometimes, a mistake is made in wrestling, just like in anything else. This can be something big or small, but the situation can be made even worse if it is heard by the masses. Sometimes there is no way around it though and that might be the case again, as a member of a wrestling announce team was overheard saying something that will not be well received.
During this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, Hikaru Shida came to the ring for an interview. According to Wrestlinginc.com, Willie Urbina, part of the Spanish broadcast team, was asked to translate what Shida said but mocked her accent in a stereotypical Japanese tone. Fellow broadcaster Dasha Gonzalez gave an awkward laugh and told Ubrina to “shut up” while Thunder Rosa defended Shida’s English and called Urbina “bad”. AEW has not commented on the situation.
Shida was in the ring to discuss her year plus long reign as AEW Women’s Champion. She was also presented by a newly designed title belt, as given to her by..
