WWE SmackDown Ratings, Viewership (7/4/17): Numbers Take A Holiday Tumble
The WWE SmackDown ratings data and viewership information is in for this week’s show, and the blue brand saw a tumble in the numbers for the holiday episode. Tuesday’s show, which featured the heavily-touted return of John Cena, a rap battle between New Day and The Usos, Lana getting her third shot at Naomi’s SmackDown Women’s Title, and a Battle Royal to crown the new #1 Contender for Kevin Owens’ US Title, drew 2.329 million viewers. This is down 11% from last week’s 2.603 million viewers. But, since this was a holiday, this drop in viewers was not unexpected.
WWE was worried about filling up the crowd in Phoenix and keeping the viewership numbers somewhat steady, hence the stacked show on Tuesday night. John Cena’s return likely kept the numbers higher than they would have been otherwise.
SmackDown Live was #1 in cable viewership for the night. And, the blue brand was #1 in the 18-49 demographic on cable this week. In that 18-49 demographic, the blue brand drew a .75 cable rating.
The numbers should rebound next week as the build for Battleground continues. Hopefully, interest in that PPV and developing storylines and angles with some of the brand’s top stars, along with Cena being back, will keep the audience tuning in.
