The wrestling world was buzzing as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament is currently underway to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns, known as “The OTC,” for his World Championship. The final four competitors are Penta, AAA World Cruiserweight Title holder Rey Fenix, AAA’s La Parka, and Dragon Lee.
This follows Fenix’s victory over El Fiscal and Lee’s win against El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. in the closing two first-round matches that took place on Monday Night RAW. These wins completed the opening round, while Penta and La Parka had already advanced in the previous week’s episode.
Per Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio — WWE plans to hold the tournament final on an approaching airing of RAW. This decision rules out TripleMania 34 as the venue for the deciding showdown. Meltzer furthermore mentioned that a potential final match between Penta and Fenix could be particularly intriguing, noting that the brothers work exceptionally well together.
The semifinals are booked for the August 24th airing of RAW in Ottawa, where Penta will hero La Parka and Fenix will take on Dragon Lee. Additionally, Roman Reigns is set to compete in his maiden RAW bout in nearly two years, defending his crown in Mexico City on September 14th.
