WWE Monday Night Raw Results – August 21 2017
Welcome to the post-SummerSlam Monday Night Raw, where there will be a ton of fallout!
Last night’s main event saw Brock Lesnar defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman, in a match that more than lived up to the hype. The match was built to be absolute carnage between the biggest monsters WWE has to offer, and it definitely met that expectation. Braun Strowman was undoubtedly the biggest star of the match as he demolished Brock Lesnar and ran roughshod over Reigns and Joe. Ultimately Brock came back and overcame the biggest of odds to retain his Championship. Where does Brock go from here? I imagine he will want some revenge on Braun Strowman and the monster among men will be happy to acquiesce.
Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose defeated Sheamus and Cesaro last night to win the WWE Tag Team Championships. Their match was easily one of the best of the night and the babyfaces walked out with their new crowns. The logical next step is a rematch between the two teams but does Roman Reigns factor in? The Big Dog took the pin last night in the main event, meaning he will be stepping out of the title picture for the time being and it seems inevitable that he will cross paths with Rollins and Ambrose at some point. Personally I don’t think that should happen just yet, Rollins and Ambrose should run with the titles for a little while and it should take a serious threat, a 3-man threat, to cause Reigns to step-up and join his former brothers. If done correctly, and so far WWE has handled Seth and Dean’s reunion perfectly, the reunion of the trio would bring any house down.
Sasha Banks dethroned Alexa Bliss last night in a great, hard-hitting match. The two women have great chemistry and their feud is far from over. It will be fun to see Little Miss Bliss chasing the title and her frustration at losing it. Will she ask for her rematch tonight? Or wait until No Mercy? We should find out tonight as Sasha Banks’ fourth reign as Champion begins.
Also on tonight’s show, Samoa Joe is in need of a new direction following his failure to win the WWE Universal Championship. Also in need of a new direction is Big Cass and Roman Reigns, not to mention the incoming free agent John Cena! There’s a lot of moving parts to keep an eye out for post-SummerSlam and tonight’s Raw should begin the road to No Mercy! Remember to join in the conversation on the Ringside Talk app. Enjoy the show!
