According to reports, WWE is planning a unique way to present the upcoming Mae Young Classic. The company apparently has plans to present the tournament in a format where people can “binge watch” each round. Their goal is to tape the tournament July 13th and July 14th in Florida. Then, they will be airing a WWE Network special to introduce the tournament and the competitors. Round one episodes will air the last week of August, and round two will air in early September. According to the plan, the finals of the tournament will be held on September 12th in Las Vegas.

WWE had originally planned to air the tournament during SummerSlam week but have since decided against the idea. WWE officials wanted the tournament to stand out and not get overshadowed by the popular end of summer pay per view.

For those unfamiliar with the Mae Young Classic, it is 32-woman tournament that will showcase a variety of independent talent (and some current WWE talent) from a variety of countries. The tournament itself is named after late professional wrestler Johnnie Mae Young, who wrestled under the name Mae Young. So far, there’s only speculation as to what female talents will be showcased, but the plan is to include a female announce team and referees.
