WWE Issues Statement On Jinder Mahal Promo; Paige Return Update
WWE Issues Statement On Jinder Mahal SmackDown Live Promo
After the outcry caused by Jinder Mahal and his “racially charged” promo on Shinsuke Nakamura on this week’s SmackDown Live, WWE has finally issued a statement on the issue (as well as posting an edited clip of the segment on their YouTube channel).
The statement came only after The Washington Post ran a piece on the segment yesterday, and this is not the kind of mainstream media attention WWE wants. The piece was not favorable to the company at all, and the statement they gave to the media outlet really didn’t clear things up.
“Just like many other TV shows or movies, WWE creates programming with fictional personalities that incorporates real world issues and sensitive subjects.
“As a producer of such TV shows, WWE Corporate is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide.”
This is one area, like we wrote about yesterday, where there aren’t all that many shades of gray to fall back on.
Paige Return Update
As we’ve been reporting, Paige is back at WWE’s Performance Center, preparing for her in-ring return after over a year of being gone. It’s being reported that Paige is fully cleared for her return, but she’s now getting back into in-ring shape.
It looks like there is a story line in place already for her return, and she will be on the SmackDown Live brand.
