Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Backstage Heat on Enzo Amore, ‘Broken’ Hardy Gimmick, Jim Ross Fields Criticism, More!

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane and Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno).

Gilbertti says that the decline in wrestling’s popularity might be easily explained by one simple variable: The Rock and Steve Austin no longer wrestle. He says that those two guys were legitimate stars, and they alone may have been what popped the ratings so drastically in the late 90’s.

He says that there hasn’t been anybody like either of those guys since, and it hardly matters because all that anyone cares about nowadays is how good the matches are. Characters are no longer the priority in professional wrestling.

Gilbertti comments on Russo’s harsh criticism of Kevin Owens, who was filmed crying after winning the Universal Championship. Gilbertti says that he doesn’t have an issue with babyfaces crying after winning Titles. Shawn Michaels did it, and guys like Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit followed suit years later. However, he doesn’t like the visual of heels crying after they win.
