The WWE SummerSlam hangover is upon us after seeing numerous title changes and surprise victories from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. WWE published new video interviews with most of the champions on Sunday night. First, new WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville commenced his second title reign after defeating Akira Tozawa during the SummerSlam Kickoff show. He was interviewed by Mike Rome but he would command the interview instead.

The Kickoff also saw a second title change with The Usos winning their second SmackDown Tag Team Championship after defeating The New Day.

Another SmackDown Live title change occurred in the main SummerSlam card when SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi tapped out to Natalya’s Sharpshooter. Natalya spoke about her title victory, her first championship since 2010.

The RAW Women’s Championship also changed hands when Sasha Banks clinched her fourth women’s title on the main roster by defeating Alexa Bliss. It was a special win for Banks as it was her first title win on pay per view and her first victory on a special event program at Barclays (i.e. at SummerSlam and the first NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015).

Sheamus and Cesaro lost the RAW Tag Team Championship to the newly reunited Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. With the RAW Tag Team Championship win, Ambrose enters his first tag team championship reign, while Rollins starts his second reign. Ambrose also becomes the latest WWE Grand Slam champion, having previously won the primary championship (WWE Championship in June 2016) and secondary championship (Intercontinental Championship in 2015 and United States Championship in 2013).

WWE Champion Jinder Mahal retained his title, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura with another interference from The Singh Brothers. He and the Singhs spoke to Dasha Fuentes after the match.

WWE SummerSlam is just about 48 hours away, and the betting odds are already rolling in. As of Friday afternoon, Brock Lesnar is favored to retain his Universal Championship in Sunday’s Fatal Four Way, and Shinsuke Nakamura is favored to become the new WWE World Champion. AJ Styles is the odds on favorite to retain the US Title, and Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss are pretty much neck and neck when it comes to the RAW Women’s Title.

Just a reminder, the minus indicates the favorite and the plus is for the underdog. The number after the plus or minus tells us how favored or unfavored the competitors are.

We have 13 confirmed matches scheduled for this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam pay per view. As expected, a few matches will air during the Kickoff show, which starts at a special start time of 5 p.m. EDT. During Tuesday night’s 205 Live, it was revealed new WWE Cruiserweight Champion Akira Tozawa will defend his title against former champion Neville during the Kickoff. On Wednesday, Cathy Kelley announced on WWE’s Snapchat, from outside the Barclays Center, The Usos vs. The New Day for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship will also occur in the Kickoff show. On Thursday, the Miztourage vs. Jason Jordan and The Hardy Boyz was also added to the kickoff show.

WWE SummerSlam weekend is nearly here but the company has rolled out a series of events for their superstars across New York City. From hospital visits, charitable rallies, baseball events, and meet and greets, the WWE rolled out their NYC itinerary leading up to their four-night stay at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, which will include NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, SummerSlam, Monday Night Live, and finally SmackDown Live.

Interestingly, WWE noted their SummerSlam pay-per-view event as “sold out,” but tickets are still available on Ticketmaster. Tickets, in fact, are still available for all four Barclays Center shows, with the most affordable tickets starting at approximately $25 for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III and SmackDown Live, respectively.

Unlisted in WWE’s itinerary are the meet and greets scheduled at the Barclays Center between August 18 and August 19. There are also other meet and greet opportunities in a partnership with Toys”R”Us that were not listed in WWE’s listing.

• Special Olympics Unified Basketball Game – Tuesday, Aug. 15
  WWE, an international partner of Special Olympics, will support the Play Unified campaign by hosting a Unified Basketball Game at the Educational Alliance Boys & Girls Club: P.S. 64 Clubhouse. Special Olympics athletes and their unified partners will participate in the game as Superstars Cesaro, Sasha Banks and Sheamus and WWE Ambassador Dana Warrior, serve as honorary coaches. WWE Hall of Famer Howard Finkel and WWE Superstar Big Show will serve as the game’s announcers.
• “Be a STAR” Bullying Prevention Rally – Tuesday, Aug. 15
  Superstars Apollo Crews, Bayley and Kalisto, WWE Announcer Charly Caruso and WWE Ambassador Dana Warrior will speak about the importance of bullying prevention to Club members at the Boys & Girls Club of Kips Bay. Last year, WWE and The Boys & Girls Clubs of America launched a multi-year partnership focusing on youth development and bullying prevention efforts around Be a STAR, WWE’s bullying prevention initiative.
• New York Yankees Batting Practice – Tuesday, Aug. 15
  Superstars Braun Strowman, Alexa Bliss and Big Cass will visit Yankee Stadium to interact with players and take part in batting practice prior to the Subway Series game vs. the New York Mets. At the game, WWE will present a custom WWE Championship to New York Yankees All-Star outfielder and MLB Home Run Derby Champion Aaron Judge.
• Children’s Hospital Visits – Wednesday, Aug. 16
  Superstars Finn Bálor, Natalya, Seth Rollins, Titus O’Neil and WWE Ambassador Dana Warrior, will visit children at The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
• Superstars Becky Lynch, Bayley, Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston, and WWE Ambassador Dana Warrior, will visit children at Montefiore Children’s Hospital in the Bronx.

• Project: OM Yoga Event – Thursday, Aug. 17
  WWE, Susan G. Komen and Manduka have partnered to support Project: OM, which aims to battle breast cancer in support of Komen’s goal to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the United States by 2026. Superstars Natalya and Titus O’Neil, and WWE Ambassador Dana Warrior, will join more than 150 participants for a yoga class led by veteran Dan Nevins in the Barclays Center’s Geico Atrium.

NXT Insider Axed

In late June, WWE began the weekly NXT Insider online series, which served as a preview for the upcoming NXT broadcast on the WWE Network. On late Wednesday afternoon, host Cathy Kelley revealed the short program was indeed short-lived.

NXT Insider’s quick cancelation comes as numerous cuts were made in the company, from the usage of pyro and smoke and select WWE Network programming such as Talking Smack and Unfiltered’s cancelations. The NXT preview series did not have as many views compared to other WWE YouTube videos. In a little more than a month, the very first NXT Insider episode only attracted less than 94,000 views as of August 10.

While NXT Insider is no more, WWE did start a much more brief SmackDown Live preview video this week with Kelley.

Jon Jones At SummerSlam?

During the past month, WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has been heavily rumored to make a return to the UFC. The rumors increased to a new level when his upcoming SummerSlam title match had a new stipulation: If Lesnar loses, he leaves WWE. One possible UFC opponent for Lesnar is Jon Jones, even WWE Hall of Famer and RAW commentator Booker T commented on the potential match, despite the weight difference. For Jones, however, he may be interested in fighting Lesnar.

In response to someone’s question, asking if he’s showing up at SummerSlam, at least ringside in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Jones said the idea has crossed his mind.

Perhaps capitalizing on the mainstream hype, WWE released a new video featuring Cathy Kelley about Jones.

Cena’s Opponent At SummerSlam

During Tuesday night’s SmackDown Live, the 11th SummerSlam match was announced. Last week, John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura were attacked by the 2017 Men’s Money in the Bank winner Baron Corbin. However, Cena would quickly have the upper hand and send Corbin through the announce table. On this week’s broadcast, Cena spoke about last week’s events and was interrupted by Corbin. SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan announced Corbin will face Cena at SummerSlam.

Cena vs. Corbin is the latest of the still-growing SummerSlam card, which still does not include the WWE Intercontinental Championship or the RAW Tag Team Championship matches

During the weekend and through Monday night, there have been a few updates affecting the WWE SummerSlam card. First, it was announced SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day will defend their recently-won titles against The Usos. It will be the third consecutive WWE pay per view where both tag teams compete against each other for the SmackDown tag team titles.

As Top Rope Press reported, Bayley suffered a separated shoulder and was removed from her match against RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss. Two triple threat matches were held on Monday night with each match’s winner scheduled to face each other next Monday night. Tonight, Sasha Banks and Nia Jax won their respective matches and will compete next week to determine the new No. 1 contender to the RAW Women’s Championship.

Also announced during Monday Night RAW was Finn Bálor vs. Bray Wyatt, which was expected following Wyatt’s interference in Bálor’s match against Elias a couple weeks ago and the back-and-forth promo segments. Big Cass will finally have another shot at Big Show at SummerSlam, except Enzo Amore will be locked and suspended above the ring in a shark cage.

WWE announced earlier today we would get an announcement on Bayley’s status for SummerSlam, and they delivered unfortunate news for the No. 1 contender for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship. Earlier today, Top Rope Press reported Bayley’s SummerSlam match was in “jeopardy” following a shoulder injury from last Monday’s match against Nia Jax. In fact, the official WWE RAW preview stated “it doesn’t seem likely that The Huggable One will be getting back into the ring anytime soon.”

A couple hours later, a new video with RAW interviewer Mike Rome confirmed Bayley will not be at SummerSlam due to a separated shoulder. Bayley is at tonight’s RAW from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and will comment about the incident.

Rome also revealed there will be two triple threat matches to determine the No. 1 contender to Alexa Bliss’s RAW Women’s Championship. The winner of each triple threat match will compete against each other at next week’s, August 14^th, broadcast of RAW. The August 14^th show will take place at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts – the hometown of Sasha Banks.

Bayley’s removal from the RAW Women’s Championship match is a crushing blow to the former women’s champion as she is featured on the SummerSlam promotional poster, which she tweeted on Sunday morning.

It looks like Shinsuke Nakamura may have a special entrance of sorts at this month’s WWE SummerSlam event.

WWE shared the video below on Instagram that features CFO$ and Lee England Jr, the violinist that has performed Nakamura’s theme song at previous events. It’s being speculated that he could perform again before Nakamura’s match against Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship.

Four new WWE SummerSlam matches were announced on Tuesday night following the events during SmackDown Live and 205 Live. First on SmackDown Live, WWE United States Champion AJ Styles defended his title against Kevin Owens. It was yet another controversial finish with Styles securing the pin. Owens was not happy but SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan understood his frustration. Bryan announced Owens will have yet another rematch against Styles at SummerSlam. And to ensure there will be a better referee presence, Bryan added McMahon as the special referee for the match.

Rusev defeated Chad Gable in a competitive matchup but the Bulgarian Brute wanted better competition. Randy Orton reappeared on SmackDown Live and attacked Rusev. It was later suddenly announced Rusev and Orton will fight at SummerSlam.

SmackDown Live’s main event saw Shinsuke Nakamura defeat John Cena to determine the No. 1 contender to Jinder Mahal’s WWE Championship at Summer Slam. This will be Nakamura’s first shot for the WWE Championship. Luck could be on his side since he first won the NXT Championship at the same SummerSlam venue of the Barclays Center.

Finally, at 205 Live, Akira Tozawa defeated Ariya Daivari to compete against Neville’s WWE Cruiserweight Championship.
