Big Cass suffered a legitimate and serious injury during this week’s Monday Night RAW. During the first match of the night from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Big Cass competed against former tag-team partner Enzo Amore in a Brooklyn Street Fight. Cass went to hit his signature big boot on Amore, who dodged it, and Cass took an awkward fall to the outside. He tried to stand but it was clear there was something wrong. The referee made the dreaded “X” gesture, which signaled a legitimate injury occurred and medical assistance was required.

Cass was visibly furious with the referee stoppage and injury. As a reminder, RAW is a live program and there were audio cuts while Cass was shouting expletives. The referee gave Amore the victory since Cass could no longer compete due to the injury.

Later during RAW, WWE.com provided the following update:

The injury occurred after Amore dodged a big boot by pulling down the top rope, sending Cass to the floor in the process.

“It’s hard to tell what the extent of the injury is, but we’re going to send him to get an MRI tomorrow and figure that out,” said WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson.

After RAW ended, WWE posted backstage footage of Cass.

The July 31st broadcast of WWE RAW saw its ratings comfortably above three million viewers through its three hours. RAW drew 3.163 million viewers, an increase from last week’s 3.067 million viewers. RAW returned as the No. 1 show on cable throughout Monday night.

As Top Rope Press reviewed last night, RAW opened with RAW General Manager Kurt Angle and the unexpected appearance of WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. Lesnar’s advocate announced The Beast Incarnate will leave the WWE if he loses the Fatal 4-Way Match at SummerSlam against Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman. The second hour opened with MizTV featuring Angle’s son, Jason Jordan. The second hour was the most-watched hour of the night. Reigns defeated Joe and Strowman in a Triple Threat Match during the start of the third hour. RAW ended with Big Cass defeating Big Show via disqualification when Enzo Amore interfered and jumped Cass.

The hourly breakdown this week was as follows:

• First Hour: 3.194 million viewers (3.156 million viewers last week)
• Second Hour: 3.275 (3.129 million viewers last week)
• Third Hour: 3.021 (2.917 million viewers last week)

Although RAW finish the night number one on cable in terms of pure viewership, RAW did not win the coveted 18-49 year old demographic. VH1’s Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood snagged the 1.08 demo rating while RAW’s second hour was close behind with a 1.06. The first hour and third hours of the show drew a 1.03 and 0.99, respectively.

It looks like John Cena’s days as a SmackDown Live roster member are numbered.

Cena looks to be moving to Monday nights immediately following SummerSlam. He is scheduled exclusively for RAW television and PPVs starting in September. His final scheduled date for SmackDown television is two weeks from today on August 15. As far as house shows go, he will start working RAW live events even sooner. Throughout the month of August, Cena will work all RAW events except for one SmackDown show (August 14 in Springfield, MA).

Cena will face Shinsuke Nakamura on tonight’s edition of SmackDown Live for an opportunity to face WWE Champion Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam. Given the pending change of brands for Cena, does this spoil the result of tonight’s match? Not necessarily. WWE still could have Cena go into SummerSlam looking to win SmackDown’s top title, though that would seem to be counter-productive with word leaking that he is leaving the brand. There’s also the possibility of a triple threat, though that also seems unlikely with the RAW brand doing a multi-person championship bout.

Early SummerSlam betting odds were released today by Bet Wrestling, and Jinder Mahal is favored slightly (as of now) to walk out of SummerSlam with the championship. Nakamura has the second highest odds, Cena third, and Baron Corbin (Mr. Money In The Bank) fourth.

John Cena has been billed as a “free agent” ever since making his return to WWE this summer.

WWE Monday Night RAW saw its ratings slip ever so slightly this week. This week’s broadcast averaged about 86,000 less viewers compared to the July 17 RAW broadcast.

RAW’s three hours attracted 3.067 million viewers, while last week drew 3.153 million viewers. Last night’s show was promoted heavily, featuring Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins taking on The Miz and his Miztourage in the main event. Monday night also opened with Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe brawling after they were announced as Brock Lesnar’s opponent for his Universal Championship defense at SummerSlam. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks and Finn Bálor vs. Elias Samson in a No-Disqualifcation Match were also promoted all week.

Thankfully for Bálor and Samson, their match, which occurred during the first hour, was the most-watched hour of RAW. Viewership declined for the rest of the show.

WWE RAW was the most watched show on cable television Monday night. The show finished second in the coveted 18-49 age group demographic. In that demo, RAW lost to VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, which garnered a 1.18 rating compared to RAW’s 1.06 rating during the first hour.

The hourly breakdown this week was as follows:

• First Hour: 3.156 million viewers (3.140 million viewers last week)
• Second Hour: 3.129 million viewers 3.237 million viewers last week)
• Third Hour: 2.917 million viewers (3.083 million viewers last week)

The WWE may be hoping for a ratings spike next Monday with the triple threat match featuring Strowman vs. Reigns vs. Joe. A MizTV segment with Jason Jordan has also been announced.

Zayn’s Fundraiser

Sami Zayn launched a fundraiser on Wednesday to help the victims of the Syrian Civil War. In association with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Foundation, the SmackDown Live superstar is working to provide millions of Syrians with a mobile medical unit. With hospitals destroyed in the Middle Eastern country, the medical unit will provide the help for people displaced.

The fundraising campaign, titled “#SamiForSyria,” has a fundraising goal of $48,000. As of 5 p.m. EDT on July 13, 372 donors have contributed over $21,500. From the list of donors, fellow WWE superstars Seth Rollins, Finn Bálor, and Kevin Owens, with his wife Karina, have donated.

The WWE has been hyping Kurt Angle’s big reveal in a new video update from Cathy Kelley and with the announced that the former Olympian will engage in a live interview exclusively on the WWE Network after this upcoming Monday Night RAW. For the last several weeks, Angle has been involved in a storyline regarding a secret he’s withheld. In a surprising move throughout these weeks, RAW commentator Corey Graves has taken part in discovering pieces of the puzzle. The upcoming July 17 broadcast of RAW, live from Nashville, will include Angle’s reveal.
