Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane and Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno).

Lane mentions that Triple H defeated Jinder Mahal in India last weekend and became the first opponent to kick out of Mahal’s finisher. Gilbertti points out that a bunch of wrestling fans were livid about this online, when a few weeks ago those same people were complaining about Mahal being the WWE Champion. He adds that Mahal was only elevated to the main event picture within the last year, so perhaps WWE thought he wasn’t ready to pin Triple H yet.

Russo argues that from a business perspective, WWE should have wanted Mahal to look strong which would have captivated his hometown audience and helped their business in India. Instead, they beat Mahal clean. Gilbertti mentions that Triple H is still a bigger star than Mahal, even when they’re in India, and Mahal can’t be having that big of a positive influence on WWE’s business in India because they actually had to cancel one of the live events there.

Lane mentions that a former soap opera writer who worked for WWE for 5 years recently parted ways with the company. The writer went on the record saying that Vince McMahon would get lost when he tried to pitch year-long story arcs to him. McMahon wanted 3-month arcs and nothing longer. Russo says that his experience writing for McMahon was very similar.

Ross welcomes PWI’s Senior Writer Dan Murphy to the show.

The 27th annual edition of PWI 500 will be released very soon, and it’s already a highly debated list. Murphy says this is a history making list for PWI because for the very first time ever, the number one choice is a wrestler who’s not working for WWE, WCW or TNA. The number one wrestler this year is NJPW’s Okada.

He says the list is normally selected by seven editorial staff members who create their lists based on a number of criteria such as match quality, in-ring technicality and influence on the business as a whole. When deciding the number one selection this year, Okada certainly checked all of those boxes and more.

Number two on this year’s list is A.J. Styles, and Ross loves this pick. He says if he was starting a promotion today Styles would be his number one selection because he’s a star. Ross also considers him to be the best bell-to-bell talent in the business today.

Number three is Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns is number four. Reigns was number one on the list last year, but Murphy points out that Reigns took a bit of a step backwards this past year before returning to the main event picture.

Kenny Omega rounds out the top five, and Murphy admits that Omega was a big part of Okada’s success this year, resulting in him finding the number one spot on this list. Omega was unable to pick up a win over Okada this year, and that’s a big reason why Okada tops this list and Omega slots in at number five.

Welcome to another edition of Monday Night Raw, for the final time in August 2017!

Tonight’s Raw is to be headlined by a huge Women’s Championship rematch. Alexa Bliss invoked her rematch clause last week and tonight she gets the opportunity to win back her title from Sasha Banks. It’s hard to imagine that Bliss doesn’t have a plan in-store and that she will pull some trick. Maybe Nia Jax will play a key role in the match, thus leading to a Triple Threat at No Mercy. Regardless, Sasha Banks will have to be on guard if she hopes to walk out of tonight’s Raw with her Championship.

Elsewhere on the show, WWE.Com is teasing continued tensions between Roman Reigns and John Cena. The 16X WWE Champion returned to Raw last week and immediately called out Roman Reigns in a really cool segment. The two barely had time to talk, or throw hands, when they were interrupted by The Miz and Samoa Joe. This led to a completely forgettable main event but the possibility of a feud between Cena and Reigns, or Cena and Joe is enough to get this writer salivating. Personally I think it makes more sense to save Cena Vs. Reigns for WrestleMania but WWE tend to pull the trigger too soon on idea’s like these, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the two tangle at No Mercy.

On last week’s Raw, Jason Jordan audaciously challenged Finn Balor to a match to prove himself. Rather unsurprisingly, Jordan lost the match but put in a good effort nonetheless – you might not even have noticed though because the Brooklyn crowd took it upon themselves to ignore the match and play with a beech ball. Thankfully beech balls have been banned from WWE events moving forward. I imagine Jordan will continue to try and prove himself but he keeps losing and I hope he starts cheating to win, thus turning heel and pulling Angle into a tricky situation.

There’s loads more happening on tonight’s Raw, with Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose, The Miz, Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, etc. Remember to join in the conversation on our awesome app: Ringside Talk. Enjoy the show!
