Hideo Itami Leaving WWE This Year?

During the mailbag segment on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about the rumors of Hideo Itami leaving WWE once his contract is up this year. Meltzer mentioned that he didn’t know for sure if Itami would leave, but he could see it happening. Meltzer explained that Itami has a lot of family in Japan and he could see him leaving WWE to head to New Japan.

As many of you are aware, Itami has had several injuries since coming to WWE several years ago. He seems to get hurt every time he builds any momentum on the NXT brand and it sets him back. Several of his peers that joined NXT around the time he did are already on the main roster doing big things while he is still trying to overcome the developmental system. It should be interesting to see how his career plays out in WWE with his contract nearing expiration this year.

Thea Trinidad Signed to WWE Deal

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Returning to WWE, Meltzer Argues with Stephanie, Bischoff & Cornette Scared? More!

Russo opens today’s show by saying that some people within the wrestling business have reached out to him and said that he really needs to start sucking up to Vince McMahon because WWE needs Russo more than Russo needs WWE. Russo refuses to kiss McMahon’s ass in order to get re-hired by WWE so that he can help them. If McMahon wants his help fine, if not that’s fine too.

The scary situation is that for five weeks now WWE has drawn less than three million viewers. There are no more excuses for McMahon and WWE, and they need to do something to combat their plummeting viewership. For a while they’ve been saying that their viewership drops are as a result of new ways to watch programming (social media, DVR), but these things have been around for years, not just the last few weeks.

Russo says that he will never suck up to WWE like Jim Cornette and Eric Bischoff did recently. Speaking of those two men, he says that both of them need to man up and have a face-to-face conversation with him because he’s sick of both of them talking behind his back. He assumes that they’re both afraid to have a discussion with him because he will expose all of their lies.

Bischoff on Wrestling Recap w/ Hornswoggle – Run as RAW GM, Release from WWE, Working the Indies, More!

Bischoff welcomes Swoggle (formerly WWE’s Hornswoggle) to the show.

Swoggle informs that he was a fan of wrestling since he was four years old. His height restrictions should have put a damper on his ambition to become a professional wrestler but it didn’t. He also had back surgery as a kid, and the doctor told him he wouldn’t be able to compete in contact sports or use a trampoline.

He didn’t listen to the doctor and continued to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. At age 17 he started getting trained by Mr. (Ken) Anderson who trained him as a wrestler, not as a midget, which Swoggle really appreciated.

His first wrestling memory is WrestleMania 6, and he was a huge fan of The Ultimate Warrior. He says that Warrior was a superhero to him, and this inspired him to become a wrestler.

Swoggle informs that his first big break came when he was backyard wrestling one day and local recruiters arrived and offered some training and an opportunity to work in a legitimate wrestling ring. This was a huge break for him, and he jumped at the opportunity.

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Women’s Tournament, Bobby Roode Deserves Main Roster, Is the PPV Model Dead? More!

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane and Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno).

Russo asks Gilbertti about the ongoing criticism towards Jinder Mahal by some wrestling fans, who accuse him of taking steroids. Gilbertti informs that he has tried steroids in the past and from his experience, it’s entirely possible to look the way Mahal does without taking steroids. With a lot of hard work in the gym and a good diet you can achieve a physique such as Mahal’s.

Lane informs that IMPACT Wrestling and Ed Nordholm are discussing bringing Billy Corgan back into the fold, to help mediate the discussions between the promotion and Matt Hardy. The thought is that Corgan can be of some value when it comes to bridging the gap between all the parties concerning the Broken Universe.

Russo says that Nordholm has far too many distractions right now, and his recent memo to wrestling media is a prime example of this. In this memo, Nordholm made public various private conversations between himself and Matt Hardy in an attempt to prove that he has been telling the truth. Russo says that Nordholm should be more focused on trying to revive IMPACT’s on-air product.

Hulk Hogan Reportedly In Negotiations with Vince McMahon for WWE Return

Hulk Hogan recently told fans at an autograph signing that he is in negotiations with Vince McMahon to return to WWE.

“Hulk Hogan did an autograph signing over the weekend in Los Angeles and when asked about the obvious question, just said he and Vince are talking,” Dave Meltzer said in the May 8, 2017, issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“Then again, it is Hogan. The answer to the question of his returning is always about when the feeling it is a time when the company feels there will be no potential sponsor backlash.”

As noted earlier today, The Hulkster was featured on a double-sided poster in the WWE Kids magazine that was being handed out during WWE’s recent tour overseas. This is another indication of his return to the company.
