Garcia welcomes Becky Lynch to the show.

Lynch informs that she predicted there’d be a Women’s Royal Rumble match within the next two years several months ago. She feels that a Women’s Rumble is a natural progression for the women who’ve already made history in several different ways over the last year. For this reason, the announcement wasn’t a big surprise to her.

She informs that she’s kept a journal her entire life, and after hearing that there was going to be a Women’s Rumble match she immediately wrote in her journal that winning the Rumble was her main goal for 2018.  She informs that another goal of her’s is to main event WrestleMania someday, and whether she does or not, she thinks it’s only a matter of time before women main event ‘Mania.

Garcia informs that she recalls a time backstage when everyone would get up to get a drink or use the washroom when the women’s match came on. She remembers seeing the frustration on the face of the women at that time because they didn’t know what they had to do in order to change things. She’s very happy that the women on the roster today don’t have to deal with those frustrations.

Kurt Angle opened up tonight’s episode of RAW discussing the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches at this month’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.

Angle revealed that 30 participants will compete in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. It was originally rumored that only 15 or 20 individuals will compete in the match.

The Royal Rumble will take place on January 28, 2018, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

PWInsider reports that when the idea was pitched for a Women’s Royal Rumble match for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view back in November, there was only supposed to be 15 women involved.

With the amount of positive feedback from several women of the past, future and present, it is very likely that more than 15 WWE Superstars will be involved in next month’s show.

Taz opens today’s show by discussing the announcement of the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match. He thinks this is great for the evolution of the professional wrestling business and great for women’s wrestling as a whole. He’s proud of all the women who have made this come to fruition.

He points out that a lot of the women in the ring on RAW looked very surprised when Stephanie McMahon came to the the ring and made that announcement. He suspects that WWE kept this surprise from the women so that they’d have a genuine reaction to the news when they first heard it live in the middle of the ring.

Taz adds that Ronda Rousey might make her WWE debut in this Royal Rumble, depending on how her training is progressing. He recalls McMahon telling him before his WWE debut that he couldn’t enter the Rumble match, because if he debuted in the Rumble match he’d have to win it. He thinks the same rule applies to Rousey is in this case.

Taz comments on Dean Ambrose’s triceps injury. He says that these types of injuries are very difficult to deal with, and he has experience dealing with a bicep tear. The fact that doctors are doing an exploratory surgery is probably good news for Ambrose because it confirms that doctors aren’t sure how severe the injury is. Taz says he knew immediately that his bicep was torn when it happened because it hurt like hell, so maybe Ambrose’s injury isn’t quite as bad.

While many are speculating that the recent call-ups to the main roster could be pointing to WWE announcing a Women’s Royal Rumble match for next year’s Rumble event, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Dave Meltzer wrote about the call-ups in the recent issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that mentioned it had to do with the same seven or eight women being recycled through the matches and the call-up was done to shake things up.

“The reason for all the women call-ups is just that the feeling was with the same seven or eight women on each brand being featured, you’ve pretty much burned through most of the match-ups and there had become a sameness to the women’s divisions, and this would shake things up,” explained Meltzer.

Dave Meltzer indicated in the latest installment of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the following matches will probably take place at the upcoming Royal Rumble event:

* Kane vs. Braun Strowman
* Intercontinental Championship: Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe

Brock Lesnar is slated to be at the event in some capacity but he may not be defending the WWE Universal Championship.

In regards to a Women’s Royal Rumble match, no one within the company is currently talking about it.

The Royal Rumble event will take place on January 28, 2018, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As always, we will be providing live play-by-play coverage of the event.
