While speaking to USA Today, Shawn Michaels discussed the angle where DX invaded WCW Nitro and his reaction to the segment.

“I was a guy, at that time, watching that as a fan. That was after I had hurt my back and left, and so I was home watching that as a fan. I have to tell you, as a guy sitting there at home watching it, not calling anybody and finding out what’s going on, it was huge. I can remember sitting there thinking ‘Oh my goodness, that is genius.’ And that they were doing that … for me it was absolutely one of the greatest moments, I think, in wrestling history, period. And ooh, it almost stings a little bit to say that because I wasn’t a part of it.

“That was just something you didn’t see. You could talk about it all day, you could reference somebody on TV. Think of it [like], it’s no different at the Oscars if somebody says something mean about the president. It’s a whole other thing to, during the State of the Union, you walk up on stage while he’s talking and say something do him. Nobody does that. That’s what these guys were doing. They were going to the back door of the competition and knocking on the door, and they weren’t answering. It was absolutely huge.”

While speaking with Sky Sports, Mick Foley talked about the first time he won the WWE Championship titled on a taped edition of RAW back on January 4th, 1999 and mentioned he believed himself as the champion was a mistake.

“It meant so much to me on a personal level and I think I’m right in saying the fans have voted it the best ever Raw moment,” he said. “I’m excited to have been part of so many big matches on Raw. But I saw me as champion as a mistake.

He continued, “I didn’t think it was a good idea. I always thought the challenger should be chasing the champion, and The Rock was a great champion. But it turned out to be the best thing for everybody. We were going up against a massive live WCW show at the Georgia Dome in front of 40,000 people and nobody thought we’d be celebrating a big victory that night. It was not seen as a big moment at the time. I saw it as a big moment for myself because I’d never dreamed of being champion, but we all thought it had been an exciting conclusion to a good show. We didn’t realise the force of the show until the ratings were revealed the next day.”

It’s been 20 years since Brian Pillman’s death so on today’s show Jericho welcomes Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer to discuss Pillman’s career.

Meltzer says he knew Pillman for many years, dating back to when Pillman began training and wrestling in Calgary for the Hart family’s ‘Stampede Wrestling’. Even during that time Meltzer knew that Pillman was going places, and Meltzer adds that up until Pillman’s death they still spoke fairly regularly.

Meltzer informs that Pillman quickly climbed the ranks and soon made his way to WCW where he would begin tagging with Steve Austin as the Hollywood Blondes. Austin wasn’t overly excited about that pairing at first because he was a fairly successful singles competitor, and he looked at this as a demotion. Eventually they developed fantastic chemistry and became a great team.

After some time WCW officials broke them up and Austin was the recipient of another singles run while Pillman was forgotten about. Pillman then hurt his back and became somewhat depressed. He knew at that time that he had to change his style because his injured back couldn’t keep up with the in ring work he was accustomed to.

Bischoff is joined on today’s show by his co-host Nick Hausman.

Bischoff was sad to hear of Bobby Heenan’s passing this past weekend. He says that while he and Heenan weren’t overly close, he loved his time working with him. He also says that anytime one of your peers passes away, it’s a sobering experience.

He says that when Heenan came into WCW from WWE, that was a big adjustment for him. Heenan was accustomed to working for a well oiled machine in WWE, and even though WCW was growing and improving, they were far from perfect. Bischoff thinks Heenan looked at working for WCW as a bit of a step down at that point in his career, and Gene Okerlund felt the same way.

Nonetheless, Bischoff thinks Heenan really enjoyed his time working in WCW when the product was good, but he certainly became frustrated when the product was bad and Bischoff doesn’t blame him for that at all. He says that he’s very grateful to have spent some time with Heenan a couple of years ago at a convention, and even though Heenan’s body was failing, he still loved getting out and meeting his fans.

The WWE pay-per-view calendar is one hell of a difficult thing to keep up with. The company changes their schedules every year, and with no less than 16 events now taking place in a calendar month, things can get more than just a little confusing.

The WWE has announced this week that their next move is to resurrect Starrcade, which was WCW’s equivalent to Wrestlemania. The event will take place on a Saturday and will not be a traditional pay-per-view, instead, it looks as though it will be some sort of Network exclusive, though, that still remains unclear as things stand.

Fans are understandably excited about this, though, and if there is one thing that the WWE love, it’s a bit of nostalgia. The company has also revived WCW’s Clash of Champions for this coming December, and rumour has it that they are looking for more events to bring back to WWE television over the next year.

While the calendar is undeniably bloated at the moment, there are plenty of WWE events that really fail to capture the public’s imagination, that could be easily be replaced with much more interesting ones. Let’s take a look at five PPVs that the WWE should consider bringing back in the next year from both WWE and WCW’s history.

Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday

Okay, I know that the original Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday PPV ended up getting out of hand, but in the age of social media and the WWE network, this event is crying out for a return.

In an age where kayfabe is knocking on death’s door, giving the fan’s more control over the product, if only for one night only, really doesn’t seem like too bad an idea. One complaint often levelled at the company is that they don’t listen to what the fans want, and the return of this event gives the fans just that.

WWE loves to feature its online presence on television and loves to think it is ahead of the curve when it comes to this sort of thing, a reboot of the Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday concept could be just what the sport needs right now. Of course, the company would inevitably end up giving the fans very limited options, but let’s just pretend just for a minute that they didn’t- imagine what a show the fans could help produce.

Of course, with the internet, comes trolls and there is a fair chance we could end seeing James Elsworth take on Brock Lesnar in an inferno match as the main event but screw it, that’s kind of the point. They also have the option of just having it as a network special, especially if they decided to go for their initial concept and put it on a Tuesday night. What harm could it do?
