WWE announced during tonight’s episode of RAW that Nakamura will open Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live.

It was rumored this past weekend that EC3 could be headed to WWE now that he’s no longer obligated to Impact Wrestling. Dave Meltzer confirmed these rumors in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter and he is in fact headed to WWE.

In an update, EC3 was actually spotted at the WWE Performance Center on Tuesday. This is a strong indication that he will be arriving in the company very soon. It remains to be seen if he will head to NXT or make a debut on the main roster. We will keep you updated if we receive more details on his WWE return.

As seen on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, the finals of the United States Title Tournament was pushed up and  took place on this week’s show instead of the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.

Dave Meltzer indicated in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that it was probably moved up because of time constraints at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Two Rumble matches are taking place on the card and those two matches combined will be 2 of the 4 hours on the show.

Meltzer also believes that there could have been a change of plans because of an injury situation and caused the company to deviate from what they originally had in mind. Meltzer didn’t elaborate on what injury could have caused a change in plans but it’s worth pointing out that there have been an abnormal amount of injuries as of late and it could have been any of those.

As seen on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, WWE did an angle that saw Rusev and Aiden English interrupt a Fashion Files segment and challenge Breezango to a match.

Breezango accepted their challenge to face them next week but revealed that Rusev and Aiden’s opponents for the next week’s show were not Breezango, but the Ascension.

WWE announced the Mixed Match Challenge brackets for the upcoming Facebook Watch series. Here is what they sent out:

“WWE Mixed Match Challenge will premiere this Tuesday night at 10 ET/7 PT, exclusively on Facebook Watch. As first revealed by Cathy Kelley on Facebook, the full bracket has now been established.

All six first-round matches will feature a Raw team taking on a SmackDown LIVE team. On the Jan. 16 premiere, Finn Bálor & Sasha Banks will go head-to-head against Shinsuke Nakamura & Natalya.

In the ensuing weeks, the remaining first-round matches will be carried out as follows:

Week 2: The Miz & Asuka vs. Big E & Carmella

Week 3: Braun Strowman & Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Sami Zayn & Becky Lynch

Week 4: Goldust & Alicia Fox vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champion Jimmy Uso and Naomi

Week 5: Elias & Bayley vs. Rusev & Lana

Week 6: Apollo Crews & Nia Jax vs. Bobby Roode & SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair

The semi-finals will include a special “second chance fan vote” in which the WWE Universe will have the ability to give an eliminated team a second chance in the tournament.

As seen on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live, Daniel Bryan announced that AJ Styles will defend his WWE Championship Title against Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn in a 2-on-1 Hadicap match at the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view this month.

Owens took to his Twitter account after last night’s SmackDown main event and reacted to the announcement. He wrote, “I like how checking on a referee’s well-being is enough of a reason for @shanemcmahon to put his hands on his top superstar.
