Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter the plan right now is to have The Miz defend the Intercontinental Championship title against Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 34 this year.

Before Samoa Joe suffered his foot injury, there were plans in place for him to do an angle with John Cena at the upcoming Royal Rumble event. With Joe unable to appear on the show, it appears that the spot will now be given to Elias instead and he will do whatever spot that Joe was originally supposed to do with Cena at the pay-per-view event.

As previously reported, Joe’s return has been pushed back and he’s not expected back until the end of March. With Cena rumored to be facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania this year, it’s possible the plans that WWE had for Joe and Cena will be completely scrapped.

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host, Jeff Lane, and Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno).

Russo opens today’s show speaking about the rumours that The Undertaker will be returning to the ring at WrestleMania 34 to face John Cena. Russo hopes these rumours are untrue, and he hopes that The Undertaker remains retired, especially after the huge retirement display that we saw at the end of WrestleMania 33.

He adds that Undertaker needs to think about his legacy in the business at this point, because his worst mistake would be returning for more matches when he’s clearly not the same competitor that fans remember from the prime of his career. Russo goes out on a limb and predicts that Undertaker will not be returning to face John Cena at WrestleMania this year.

Gilbertti doesn’t have any issue with Undertaker returning for one more match at all. He thinks Undertaker carried himself pretty well during his last couple of matches, and he still has the best entrance in the business. As long as Undertaker can sell tickets for WWE and cash a big WrestleMania paycheque, Gilbertti has no issue with him returning to the ring.

While speaking to the With Spandex podcast, The Big Show was asked if he believes that The Undertaker is finished with wrestling and revealed that he doesn’t think that’s the case.

“No, man, I’m telling you — The Undertaker, they don’t call him ‘The Phenom’ for nothing bro, I’m telling you. An Undertaker at 30 percent is better than most everybody else at 90 percent, I’ll tell you that much. If that makes any sense at all. He’s just that damn good.”

As previously noted, The Undertaker is being heavily advertised for the RAW 25 Anniversary event on January 22nd, 2018. Taker is also being rumored to have one more match against John Cena at this year’s WrestleMania 34 event.

As previously reported, The Undertaker, John Cena and other legends have been confirmed for the upcoming 25th Anniversary of RAW show on January 22nd, which is the go-home show for The Royal Rumble.

Bryan Alvarez discussed the event on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Live and speculated that The Undertaker will tease his retirement on that episode of RAW. Cena would then come out to the ring as The Undertaker is retiring and challenge The Deadman to one final match at this year’s WrestleMania event.

Alvarez explained that he’s been told there is a “big plan” for Cena at this year’s WrestleMania and it’s “bigger than the championship matches” on the card. That doesn’t leave a lot of options.

When asked about the possible dream match of The Undertaker vs. Sting taking place at WrestleMania, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter mentioned that WWE probably wouldn’t clear Sting to wrestle another match for the company.

“The impression we have is that Sting probably can’t get cleared to wrestle. He’s already retired. I know that if he could wrestle,he would want that match.”

Sting has made it known in various interviews since his retirement that he would like to have a match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Sting’s WWE career was short lived after he suffered an injury against Seth Rollins a couple years back. Sting mentioned during a Q&A at The Wales Comic Con event in Wrexham last month that he doesn’t plan to have the surgery to repair the injury.

“The only reason I held off on the surgery is because I had guys like Stone Cold saying don’t do it. I don’t have any side effects? I can still work out and it doesn’t bother me, I don’t get a sore neck from sleeping or anything so why would I get surgery? If you don’t need it, don’t do it.”

Dave Meltzer mentioned in the latest installment of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that rumors of AJ Styles possibly facing John Cena at next year’s WrestleMania 34 event are incorrect.

Meltzer wrote, ”I’m told that right now that is incorrect, and Cena is in a much bigger match than Styles. The only thing I was told is it will be clear within a few weeks what that match is.”

Meltzer mentioned The Undertaker, Batista, Goldberg and possibly Hulk Hogan as opponents for Cena at Mania’.

According to PWInsider, WWE has been contacting former Superstars and personalities to film video messages for the upcoming RAW 25th Anniversary show. The company expects to either use these during the live broadcast or use them for promotional material for the event.

As previously noted, WWE is considering this show a “all-hands-on-deck” show, and they are bringing in many names for the show. The Undertaker is one of the big names being advertised for the January 22nd event, which will be simulcasted from The Manhattan Center and The Barclays Center in New York City.
