Everyone’s favorite Demon King isn’t doing a whole lot on Raw right now. After an amazing performance against AJ Styles at TLC, Finn Balor was chokeslammed into oblivion by the real Demon, the Demon Kane. Prior to that, he was stuck in a seemingly endless feud against Bray Wyatt, and it did nothing for either man  (except maybe reveal that Finn should not wear gray trunks). Just last Survivor Series, he was cannon fodder for Team Smackdown. Yowch.

Let’s face it, Balor’s not doing much. He could use a change in scenery. He could move to Smackdown.

Raw Doesn’t Need Him

At times, it seems like Raw is really just hogging all the big names. Sure, Smackdown has AJ Styles and Randy Orton, but Raw has all three members of the Shield, Samoa Joe, Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, and Finn Balor. To put things into perspective, Balor is billed at 5 ft 11. The average height of the rest of the name on there (excluding Finn) is around 6 ft 3. It seems almost everybody else literally stands head and shoulders above him. He is going to get lost in the land of giants.

Strowman just seemingly turned face and is unleashing all hell on anybody who dares to trifle with him. WWE clearly sees potential in him, so he’s at the forefront of Raw almost every Monday night. The Shield are WWE’s golden boys, so they get their fair share of time as well. Those guys are pretty much untouchable right now, so it’s Balor who is led to the slaughter most of the time, be it against Kane, Samoa Joe, or even Elias.

It almost seems that The Extraordinary Man Who Can Do Extraordinary Things  is expendable. This would be sort of okay if he was a midcarder who puts on competitive showings against top talents but ultimately loses. That’s not who Finn is. He’s the inaugural Universal Champion.

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane.

On one of his shows this past week, Dave Meltzer discussed the merchandise sales of Finn Balor. He said that Balor has to be one of the top merchandise sellers in WWE because there are plenty of ‘Balor Club’ shirts at each WWE event. However, he doesn’t see many Balor shirts outside of WWE events.

Russo says that’s because there aren’t any wrestling shirts outside WWE events anymore. Back during the attitude era there were several wrestlers whose merchandise could be seen anywhere in public including Austin, The Rock and the NWO. Nowadays, you don’t see anyone wearing wrestling merchandise unless you’re at a WWE show.

Meltzer also adressed the Brock Lesnar/A.J. Styles Survivor Series match, calling it a success while pointing out that nobody would have cared about a Lesnar/Jinder Mahal match. Russo says, “Screw you, Meltzer”, adding that Meltzer’s problem is that he talks out of place, putting words in everybody else’s mouths. Russo says he would have much rather watched a Lesnar/Mahal match.

At another point last week Meltzer discussed RAW’s 3-hour run-time, saying that it doesn’t matter what WWE writes, fans are always going to tune out towards the end of a 3-hour program. Russo disagrees entirely, saying that he and Ed Ferrera wrote several 3-hour episodes of Monday Nitro and those shows held their audience right until the end.

WWE apparently had problems selling tickets for WWE events during Survivor Series week.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that only Survivor Series sold out in the past few days they ran events. NXT Takeover: WarGames, RAW and SmackDown all failed to be complete sellouts. The other three shows averages between 5,700 to 6,000 while Survivor Series did around 12,000 fans.

Takeover probably performed the worst out of all four events as the top deck was completely empty and much of the hard camera side was empty as well. You can see in the photo below that these claims are true, as when Ember Moon won the NXT Women’s Championship, a good portion of the section was empty:

On today’s show former ECW, WCW and WWE Superstar, Big Vito and Jeff Lane will discuss Survivor Series.

Vito points out that WWE brought Kalisto into 205 Live to get good, entertaining matches out of Enzo Amore. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened and the experiment has failed big time. He says that Kalisto has definitely taken himself out the Title picture for an extended period of time.

He says that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn definitely did something to piss people off because they went from the main event picture to being placed into the ‘Ha Ha spot’ with Breezango at Survivor Series. He thought this was a terrible match, and these two kickoff show matches really started the show on a poor note.

Lane points out that NXT: War Games didn’t sell out, and the crowd arrived late for Survivor Series. He wonders if four nights of wrestling in a row is becoming too much for fans. Vito says that NXT lost a lot of big stars recently before they had the proper people ready to replace them. He suggests that maybe WWE should consider rotating a few talents back and forth from NXT and the main roster.

Vito thought Survivor Series’ 5-man booth had way too many voices. He also thought that Shawn Michaels had a poor showing on the kickoff panel. He says that he has no heat with Michaels but he made no sense whatsoever on that panel, and the other panel members had to bail him out on several occasions. He points out that when you’re not cutting promos on a consistent basis there’s going to be some rust.

Block 1:

Taz opens today’s show speaking about the commentary at last night’s Survivor Series PPV. He says that it was very tough to follow the 5-man booth, and Booker T came off as most credible out of all the commentators because he was pro-Raw through and through. Michael Cole and Corey Graves seemed to swing back and forth between supporting RAW and Smackdown Live.

In regards to Corey Graves seemingly attacking Booker T from time to time, Taz is sure that Graves wasn’t going into business for himself when he said those lines. All those shots at Booker T were definitely produced for him in Taz’s opinion. He adds that he loves Graves’ work, but Graves shouldn’t have even been on the broadcast last night given that he works on both shows.

Taz says that Graves and Cole teaming up on Booker T is actually starting to annoy him because Booker T is a former World Champion who accomplished a lot in the business. He doesn’t understand why WWE’s producers are dead set on burying Booker T.

He thought The Shield and The New Day had a good match, but he doesn’t understand why WWE bothered implementing any rules during this bout. The 6 men were going toe to toe for the majority of the match, and tags were often of little importance. He points out that Jey Uso’s flying tag to his brother was a spectacular spot.

As seen in the closing moments of Sunday’s Survivor Series event, Triple H got the win for his team after he turned on Kurt Angle and then pinned Shane McMahon for the victory. Braun Strowman seemed very confused over the whole situation and got upset at Triple H for stealing the glory. Triple H was laid out by Strowman and was also on the receiving end of multiple powerslams.

While it was hard to make out what Strowman said afterwards, he told Triple H, “If you ever try and drop me again, I promise, you will never play this game again!”

Mike Kanellis, who hasn’t really been used on WWE television much since arriving to the company, commented on missing Sunday’s Survivor Series event on his Instagram account.

According to PWInsider, Paige is in Houston, TX for tonight’s RAW. The website didn’t elaborate if she would be used on the show.

As previously reported, Paige was brought in for last week’s show to be the final member of the Women’s RAW Survivor Series Team. WWE changed plans sometime in the day when the company had several re-writes of the show and Paige ended up not being used.

Coming out of Sunday’s Survivor Series event, it appears that Triple H’s next opponents are Braun Strowman and Kurt Angle. These matches will presumably take place at the upcoming Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 34 events.

While original plans called for Triple H vs. Kurt Angle at WrestleMania, Bryan Alvarez speculated on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio this match could happen at The Royal Rumble, while Strowman vs. Triple H could take place on the WrestleMania card.

In regards to how the Survivor Series pay-per-view event ended, Dave Meltzer mentioned that it was done that way to get Braun Over.

Welcome to Survivor Series 2017, where Raw and SmackDown go head-to-head in the most bitter rivalry in years!

Team Raw Vs. Team SmackDown Live. Team Angle Vs. Team McMahon. This massive five-on-five match will determine which brand is better, with Shane McMahon looking to prove SD Live as the A-show, while Angle is fighting for his job. Shane led an invasion of Raw a month ago, which led to a response from Raw on the final episode of SmackDown Live. Shane and Angle have been at each others throats for weeks and now Triple H has inserted himself into the match, adding even more drama to the proceedings, which were already at boiling point. This match is sure to have repercussions for the many months ahead.

Every other match on the show tonight, minus one, is also to be Raw Vs. SmackDown, and none is bigger than Brock Lesnar Vs. AJ Styles. The Champion of SmackDown Live and the WWE takes on the Champion of Raw and the Universe. This match changed drastically once Jinder Mahal was removed and Styles inserted in, which has led to a huge increase in anticipation. What was once a relative snorefest, became a must-see match that has the potential to tear the house down.

The Shield will also take to the ring tonight to defend Raw’s honour against The New Day. This will be The Shield’s first PPV match as a unit since reforming, and they take on SmackDown’s resident funnymen. This match could very well steal the show and will be one of the most anticipated bouts of the night. Beyond that, The Miz faces Baron Corbin, The Bar take-on The Uso’s, Alexa Bliss battles Charlotte and Team Raw’s Women will face Team SmackDown’s ladies.

The Survivor Series Kick-Off Show will begin at 5 PM ET, yes a two-hour pre-show, with Enzo Amore defending his Cruiserweight Championship against Kalisto, Matt Hardy will face Elias, and Breezango takes-on Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
