USAToday reports that Ronda Rousey is finalizing plans to switch her career from UFC to WWE. Although not yet officially announced by WWE, it appears as if Rousey will be making her way to the squared circle in the near future.

Rousey has been rumored for several months to be involved in either a 4 Horsewomen vs. 4 Horsewomen or singles match against Stephanie McMahon or Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34. She has been training recently in California and at the WWE Performance center.

Stephanie McMahon On WWE’s Audience Forcing Changes

In a bit of funny news for the day, Stephanie McMahon spoke at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington D.C. yesterday and talked about how WWE listening to its fans changes the direction of creative plans in the company.

“Our audience tells us what they love, what they don’t like and worse, what they don’t care about. And you have to be listening, and in WWE, yes, we do, we pivot on the fly. It’s an advantage that we’re live. We do set our storylines out a year in advance, WrestleMania being our Super Bowl and then we program backwards, but things happen. The audience might not be invested in a character that we think they will be invested in for whatever reason. There could be an injury that happens, because we really are an incredible athletic event as well. Anything can happen, so that ability to pivot and twist is really important.

And when you think about NXT, for example, our audience is actually determining who makes it to the next level, who goes to that main roster. And they know it, they know that they are a part of that person’s success, so they are that much more invested in it. And again, I just think that engagement is really important.”

I said “funny news” because, if you listen to a vast majority of the WWE Universe, you’d hear them saying that WWE does the exact opposite of what they want most of the time.

Brock Lesnar WWE Contract Status

It’s being reported that Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract is due to expire after WrestleMania 34. His final dates with the company would be Mania and the RAW after the big show, but WWE does have certain rights with Lesnar that would stretch through August 2018 on the chance that his contract is not renewed.

It’s expected that Brock’s contract will be renewed and that the rumored UFC fight between him and Jon Jones will not happen. Dana White had the following to say about Brock working another UFC fight while under contract to WWE:

“They didn’t want to do that again. You saw what happened last time he was under contract and it doesn’t look good for anybody.”

During a recent television appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Stephanie McMahon talked about a number of issues relating to WWE and their female demographic. She revealed that 40% of WWE’s audience is made up of women and more than 40% of the families who come to WWE shows bring their children. This explains WWE’s recent marketing strategy with gearing merchandise towards women and girls (especially the dolls based on the WWE Women’s Divisions). There are even rumors now of adding Women’s Tag Team Titles to the promotion as well as talk of someday having an Royal Rumble match for the Women’s Division.

Stephanie also revealed how her being “the boss” empowers the women in the company (at least in her mind).

“I am the boss. Well, my character is the boss. I use my power at any given chance. And women are a force to be reckoned with! There is now a women’s only tournament, which is part of this whole women’s revolution, where women have gone from lesser roles to becoming the main events at shows. They have taken the world by storm. Women are forces of nature that have been stealing the show – as women often do!”

While speaking at a Leaders In Sports convention at Stamford Bridge, Stephanie McMahon talked about Conor McGregor possibly coming to WWE and mentioned that he would be a “perfect fit” for the company.

“I think Conor would be a perfect fit with WWE,” said McMahon. “He certainly has the personality and the athletic ability, the appeal. He speaks his mind, he’s very genuine and authentic and he has a hell of a Vince McMahon swagger.”

Stephanie McMahon’s Book Release On Hold

We’ve all known for a while now that Stephanie McMahon has been working on her memoirs. The book was supposed to be released in 2017, but then Amazon had the release date at 2020. Now, it looks like the book has been put on indefinite hold.

No word on what caused the book to be shelved other than Stephanie’s response on Twitter.

Baron Corbin Update

For weeks now, rumors have bee swirling that Baron Corbin has some major heat backstage in WWE. He lost his MITB cash in in embarrassing fashion and followed that up with a clean loss to John Cena at SummerSlam.

Now it’s being reported that whatever heat he may have came from a backstage meeting with Dr. Joseph Maroon during a wrestlers’ meeting in August. Corbin (who is a former football player) took exception to Maroon downplaying the link between concussions and CTE, and he got into a heated argument in front of everyone with Maroon. It was said by many to be an awkward and uncomfortable situation that would have been better handled privately.

Another thing that makes this whole situation awkward is that WWE only recently found out that Corbin is involved in a players’ lawsuit with the NFL over the concussion issue.

According to Dave Meltzer in this week’s WON:

“It also came out in the discussion that Corbin was one of the players suing the NFL in a concussion lawsuit, which makes things weird given he’s now working as a pro wrestler. Plus WWE apparently wasn’t aware of this fact until this past month.”

With Corbin now being position for a program for the US Title with AJ Styles, maybe the situation won’t cause any long-term issues with him going forward.

Triple H Mocks Mayweather & McGregor

The Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor press tour started yesterday and delivered memorable moments and the attention of Triple H. During the first press conference from Los Angeles, the microphones would suddenly turn off when one of the fighters were not taking the spotlight; this drew criticism from viewers who wanted to hear sudden comebacks.

The first of the multi-city press tour caught the attention of WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events Triple H, who referenced that WWE’s flagship Monday Night RAW “has plenty LIVE microphones.”

WWE and boxing fans may remember Triple H once accompanied Mayweather for the latter’s boxing match, and of course the boxer’s WWE appearances leading up to his match against Big Show at WrestleMania 24.

Stephanie McMahon & Ronda Rousey Reunited

Meanwhile, Stephanie McMahon recently had an encounter with fellow UFC star Ronda Rousey in Los Angeles. On Tuesday evening, Rousey introduced the Stuart Scott ENSIPRE Award to Stephanie McMahon at the Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards. McMahon, the WWE’s chief brand officer, was recognized for the company’s work with Make-A-Wish, Special Olympics, Susan G. Komen, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Be a STAR, and Connor’s Cure.

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane and Rue from ‘Rue TV’.

Russo opens today’s show by informing that Bruce Prichard has denied his invitation to appear on this show. He now lumps Prichard in the same category as Jim Cornette and Eric Bischoff, of people who love to talk crap behind his back but refuse to discuss it with him in person.

Rue asks Russo about his connection to Bruce Prichard’s arrival in TNA years ago. Russo says he doesn’t like to talk about this much, but he played an instrumental part in bringing Prichard into TNA. Prichard was released from WWE because he and Stephanie McMahon didn’t see eye to eye, but Prichard had two small children and his wife was sick at the time, so Russo went to work and found a position for him in TNA.

Russo informs that Wade Keller appears to be getting his own podcast on PodcastOne in the near future, and someone has already reached out to him about being a guest on that show. Russo said he’d absolutely appear on that show as a guest because he has no issue debating their opposing wrestling philosophies, even though they’ve had their differences in the past. Russo is interested to see whether Keller actually agrees to have him on as a guest.

Stephanie On Possible WWE UK PPV

As was published by The Mirror earlier today, Stephanie McMahon recently took time out of preparing for WWE’s UK tour to discuss a host of topics, perhaps most notably the prospect of a major UK PPV taking place in the future. McMahon touched on how great an experience the SummerSlam ’92 event at Wembley Stadium was and agreed that with the company’s steady UK expansion in recent times, the repeat of such an event gets more and more likely. Asked if the chances of a UK PPV are increasing, she stated:

I think they are because WWE always listens to our fanbase and the UK fans are pretty loud, pretty rowdy in a great way, and you know we are constantly evaluating that. Personally I would love to see it. I know it would be incredible.

Baby Birdie Joe Finally Arrives!!

In other news, weighing in at 8 pounds and 10 ounces, Birdie Joe Danielson finally came into the world….a few days late. Brie Bella gave birth to her and Daniel Bryan’s baby daughter at 11:58 p.m. last night. In announcing the news, Brie seemed naturally ecstatic:

I can’t even express the overwhelming joy and love that Bryan and I are feeling. Now we know what parents mean about the love you feel when you first meet your child. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers on the safety of Birdie coming into this world.”
