WWE Announces Shayna Baszler Signing

As we reported last week, Shayna Baszler has signed with WWE. It took until today for the promotion to officially announce her signing.

Shayna Baszler officially joins the WWE Performance Center

Shayna Baszler already made history as a finalist in the inaugural WWE Mae Young Classic. Now, The Queen of Spades is ready to embark on her new career in WWE as an official member of the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla.

Baszler, a former UFC fighter originally from Sioux City, S.D., began training full-time at the Performance Center last week.

“I’m looking forward to getting out there and twisting limbs off and breaking bodies,” she told WWE.com. “I can’t wait.”

The WWE Universe watched this past summer as Baszler used a rear-naked choke to submit four consecutive opponents and advance to the Mae Young Classic Final, where she lost to tournament winner Kairi Sane of Japan.

A member of the MMA Four Horsewomen and former training partner of Ronda Rousey, Baszler brings extensive catch wrestling expertise to the Performance Center. She learned the dangerous and hybrid form of grappling under former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett and the late U.K. legend Billy Robinson, continuing a prestigious lineage that also includes Karl Gotch, whom Japanese audiences once dubbed “The God of Wrestling.”

Baszler described WWE as “the next step” in her progression as a combat athlete.

“It’s very serious to me and, in some ways, a lot more important [than MMA] based on where I come from,” Baszler said. “Waving the banner of my coaches is a heavy flag to wield, so it’s something I take very serious. Because of that, I wanted to start at the beginning and show that I’m willing to start at the bottom and prove myself and work my way up, so there’s no excuse when I get here and I’m breaking these girls in half. I didn’t get any ‘gimmes.’”

Mickie James To Be Honored By NAMA

It was announced today that Mickie James will be honored by the Native American Music Association. She will be inducted into the NAMA Hall Of Fame during the 17th Annual Native American Music Awards (NAMA) ceremony on Saturday, October 14th at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, New York.

The Native American Music Awards & Association is very proud to announce that WWE® Superstar & SMG Recording Artist Mickie James (Powhatan) will be inducted into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame during the 17th Annual Native American Music Awards (NAMA) ceremony on Saturday, October 14th at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, New York.

While growing up in Virginia, Mickie James, was a tomboy who always loved riding horses and WWE Mickie’s strong Powhatan ancestry tracing back to the Mattaponi reservation, is something she has always embraced throughout her career and still remains very proud of. Today, WWE® Superstar Mickie James or Mickie Laree James is internationally recognized. She is a six time Women’s champion. And as a recording artist, she has released two full length albums and two singles and is widely known in the country music circuit. Her single entitled, “Shooting Blanks” released last November, has been nominated by the Native American Music Awards for Song of the Year. She has also just released a new single, “Get Down” which is currently impacting country radio and can be purchased through iTunes, Amazon and other online digital retailers.

In addition to her Hall of Fame induction, Mickie will be performing live at the Awards ceremony.

Paige At WWE Performance Center

It looks like Paige is on her way back to a WWE ring. Yesterday, she sent out a picture of the WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando on her Instagram page, saying that it was a great day there.

Then, WWE “teased” her return with an article tweet and article on their website earlier today.

Paige has been out of action for more than a year with everything from a neck injury, surgery, and rehab to Wellness Policy violations that kept her off of WWE television. There’s no word on the exact date of her return, but it looks like it will be sooner rather than later.

Shayna Baszler Signs With WWE

The runner up in the Mae Young Classic Tournament, Shayna Baszler, has reportedly signed with WWE. The news of Shayna’s signing came from and was confirmed by fellow MMA Four Horsewoman member Jessamyn Duke on her twitch video gaming channel.

Baszler, 37, has wrestled all over the globe, as well as earning her stripes in the MMA world. She is the current AIW Women’s Champion. The Queen Of Spades has also held the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship and the Premier Women’s Championship. She’s also been a regular with SHIMMER and Stardom in Japan.

There’s no word on when Baszler will make her NXT television debut, but she was working the Florida loop house shows recently.

While speaking with TV Insider, Mae Young Classic competitor Shayna Baszler revealed that she called Ronda Rousey and the other Horsewomen to appear at the Tournament back on July 13th and July 14th at Full Sail University.

“We’re such good friends and training partners and teammates. I specifically called all three of them and said, ‘Guys, this is the most important thing I’ve ever done in my combat sports career. I’d love for you guys to be there because you were there at the beginning of all of this, and I would like you to be there for this.’ They were like, ‘Yeah, you got it. We’ll drop whatever we are doing. We’re there.’”

Baszler also talked about her decision to come to WWE and revealed it’s something she’s had her eye on.

“WWE is something I’ve had my eye on. After the call, I said to myself, ‘All right, it’s time to get it in gear.’ It fired me up to get into even better shape and get ready to go.”

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan right now is for WWE to shoot a one-hour May Young Classic final with Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane as the main event of the show. It will air directly after SmackDown Live ends in Las Vegas on September 12th.

WWE will be flying in a majority of the 32 women for the event and the idea is to have a series of other women’s matches, three being the number right now, on that show. There is speculation that they will shoot the next chapter of the Horsewoman vs. Horsewoman angle on the show, which in theory would mean Charlotte, Banks, Bayley and Lynch have to be positioned at ringside.

Dave Meltzer indicated in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Ronda Rousey may be at the finals for The Mae Young Classic on September 12th in Las Vegas. Ronda’s friend Shayna Baszler is facing off in the finals against Kairi Sane. It’s very possible that Ronda will take part in furthering the WWE Horsewoman vs. UFC Horsewoman feud.

It’s also worth noting that Ronda has been teasing a big announcement. While it’s not known exactly what the announcement will be, it’s very possible that it could be WWE-related. We will keep you updated.

During Friday’s Mae Young Classic tapings at Full Sail University, WWE did an angle that saw a tease between WWE and UFC’s Four Horsewomen.

After one of Shayna Baszler’s matches in the tournament, Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Bayley were shown at ringside on the opposite side of Ronda Rousey and her crew. Both sides had words with each other and it was made obvious WWE has something planned between the two sides, as the angle was recorded.
