It appears that WWE is making a major change to the upcoming Takeover main event. While it was revealed that Johnny Gargano would be the next challenger to Almas’ NXT Championship title at this past week’s NXT tapings, that may no longer be the plan.

WWE taped four matches this week — Trent Seven vs. Killian Dain, Kassius Ohno vs. Johnny Gargano, Roderick Strong vs. Lars Sullivan and Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black. The winners of these matches moved on to compete in a Fatal 4 Way with the winner being the new #1 contender for the NXT Title. Gargano ended up winning the 4 Way and should be moving on to challenge Almas… or so we thought.

When William Regal made the announcement in the video above, there was no mention of the Kassius Ohno vs. Johnny Gargano match. Instead Regal announced Velveteen Dream vs. Ohno instead. This means that WWE will have to tape the Velveteen Dream vs. Ohno match and the Fatal 4 Way match to determine a new #1 contender.

As of this writing, there is no indication as to why the company made this change. We will keep you updated if we receive any other details.

Ross opens today’s show speaking about this past weekend’s wrestling shows.

He says he really enjoyed NXT: War Games. Many people have asked him why he didn’t call the War Games match, but he informs that he wasn’t asked. He thought Aleister Black and Velveteen Dream had an incredible match, and he’s really high on both those performers. He also really liked the Kassius Ohno/Lars Sullivan bout, and he thinks Sullivan has the ‘It’ factor.

He liked the NXT Championship match between Drew McIntyre and Almas, but he was shocked and saddened that the finish came as sudden as it did due to McIntyre’s injury. He points out that McIntyre has overcome much more than an upper arm injury in the last couple of years, so he’ll return from this stronger than ever.

He thought Ember Moon shined in the Women’s Title match as she should have, but all the women played their parts well. The War Games match was a unique display in Ross’ opinion and while he didn’t dislike it, he admits that he had to adjust to the new rules. He informs that Roderick Strong and Adam Cole are two of his favourite performers in the world right now.

Welcome to NXT TakeOver: WarGames, where titles will be won and dominance will be established.

Seventeen years after the last WarGames match, NXT is bringing back the dormant structure to separate the men from the boys. The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) arrived in NXT at the last TakeOver and have steamrolled over the brand ever since. Sanity has had a mixed time in NXT but stepped to a new level when they dethroned the seemingly unstoppable Authors of Pain at TakeOver Brooklyn III. Speaking of the AOP, the two behemoths have been on a mission since losing the titles and now they have Roderick Strong by their side as they aim to avenge their loss and reestablish themselves as the very best around. All three teams have something to prove and a lot to gain from a win in tonight’s historic match, but who walks out with the bragging rights? My guess would be The Undisputed Era thanks to a Roderick Strong heel turn, after all, they’re all Ring of Honor buddies. Let us know what you think!

The NXT Women’s Championship is vacant for the first time since it was won by Paige in 2013. The long-cast shadow of Asuka has been lifted from the division and now four women step into the ring tonight to decide a new Women’s Champion. Peyton Royce, Kairi Sane, Ember Moon, and Nikki Cross will battle it out to determine a new Champion, in what is sure to be a high-octane match. Kairi Sane is the obvious choice for the winner of tonight’s match, as she looks to build on her momentum from winning The Mae Young Classic, but I could see Peyton Royce stealing a win and beginning a long run as heel Champ. What do you think?

Our other Championship match will see Drew McIntyre defend his NXT Championship for the first time on a TakeOver. McIntyre will face the ever-resilient and impressive Andrade Cien Almas, who looks to win his first gold in NXT. Almas has had a lengthy journey in NXT as he was brought in as a white-meat babyface but the fans just didn’t care about him. Since then Almas has turned his entire career around and strung together a series of truly phenomenal matches, which has led him to a match for the big one. Sadly for Almas, I think he’s just a notch in the belt of Drew McIntyre, who is sure to move on to a much bigger feud, perhaps with Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan, or Alesiter Black.

Speaking of Black, the man from Amsterdam has been a huge fan favourite since joining NXT a year ago. He’s had some great matches but never looked truly tested. A few months ago if you’d told me that his next big test would be The Velveteen Dream, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. That’s not a knock against Dream, that’s just to say that he isn’t a typical opponent for the hard-hitting, technical Black. In regards to Dream though, I’ve wanted to see Patrick Clark (Dream’s real name) achieve success in WWE ever since he appeared on the 2015, where he proved himself to be a smart young man with a humble upbringing and incredible passion for the business. I don’t expect him to toppled Black tonight but this is a huge stepping-stone on his WWE journey.

The only other match on tonight’s show is Kassius Ohno Vs. Lars Sullivan, which is a huge test for the latter. It’s great to see Ohno back on a TakeOver card, given his relative obscurity since returning to NXT, however this match is to be a showcase for the freak of nature that is Lars Sullivan. The giant man is fun to watch as he absolutely crushes his opponents but tonight he faces a man as big as himself and I think we’re in for a real great show, albeit a short one. That’s our preview for tonight’s card, which begins with the Kick-Off Show at 7:30 PM. Remember to download the Ringside Talk app and get in on the conversation. Enjoy the show!

Welcome to NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn for the third year in a row, and tonight’s card promises to continue the tradition of greatness!

Tonight’s main event sees Bobby Roode face his toughest challenge yet in the form of Drew McIntyre. Roode is as confident as ever, especially after laying out McIntyre last week with his Glorious DDT, however McIntyre is focused and pissed off. And even if Roode can get past McIntyre, he has a date with Roderick Strong coming soon! I think this will be a great match but I feel like Roode has had a really weird title run thus far. Roode has been on NXT so little that it makes him seem borderline Brock Lesnar-like. His last match on NXT TV was against Roderick Strong back in June and before that it was in March against Kassius Ohno. And in between those matches he rarely appears to cut promo’s, making him feel like the least involved Champion NXT has ever had. Compare that to his opponent, Drew McIntyre, who has had seven matches since debuting in April and other appearances in between. Maybe it’s just me but I think the Champion should be a much more focal point of the show, I like that NXT doesn’t feature the same stars week-in-week-out but Roode should definitely have been around much more often. Let me know if you agree!

Another huge title match takes place tonight with Asuka once again putting her title and undefeated streak on the line against Ember Moon. The challenger lost her chance to take part in a Fatal 4-Way months ago but has since recovered and, in her own words, Asuka has only made her stronger. I think tonight will be the end of Asuka’s reign but I hope I’m wrong. I’d love to see Asuka take her undefeated streak to the main roster and continue it for a while, however the torch usually passes on and I think WWE really want Ember to get that strap. I’d personally rather see Asuka hold onto the title and face the winner of the Mae Young Classic, possible Kairi Sane who Asuka knows from her Japan days.

In our third title fight in Brooklyn, The Author’s of Pain face SAnitY! On paper this match sounds like a car crash and in the ring it will probably reflect that. These two dominant teams were sure to cross paths at some point and here we are. This isn’t a feud that needs much explaining or backstory, just let them kill each other for our entertainment! I’d like to see SAnitY cheat to win the titles and gain some momentum for a team that has talked a lot and lost even more. Kinda like The Wyatts unfortunately.

Elsewhere on tonight’s show, Aleister Black faces Hideo Itami in a match that promises to steal the show and give us a new number one contender, and Johnny Gargano faces Andrade Cien Almas in a match to gain some momentum. This is a pretty great card, although I’d like to have seen Roderick Strong, Kassius Ohno and Ruby Riot get some action. Anyways, let us know what you’re excited for on the Ringside Talk app! Enjoy the show!

Bobby Fish spoke with WWE.com. Here are some highlights:

If he thought he’d make it to WWE: “At times, yes, and at times, no. I remember a conversation I had with Kevin Owens in a hotel gym in Chicago a few years back. We were both working for Ring of Honor, and at that time, it seemed like Kevin was headed toward the next step in his journey. I have immense respect for Kevin and all that he’s been through to find his success. He is not the prototype for what was rumored to be ideal here and neither am I. Understanding his drive to succeed here through that conversation made me think that if I want that — which I believe, in some way, anyone who laces up the boots to do this, does on some level — then I will create a similar opportunity for myself. So yeah, I did think I’d be here one day.”

NXT debut: “Somewhat surreal because much of this has come together very quickly. I watched the success of former co-workers and peers, such as Roderick Strong, Kassius Ohnoand Hideo Itami, make that very same walk at Full Sail. At this point, I feel so prepared for this new challenge. In my opinion, this life is about the journey, and when mine ends, I expect that this vessel, my body, will be banged up, battered and beaten, which will be a clear indication of a life well lived. NXT represents the next step in my journey.”

Wrestling in Japan: “Japan will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the place where I received the first big break of my career when I was selected to travel to the island and begin competing for Mitsuharu Misawa’s Pro Wrestling NOAH at the end of 2006. I worked eight years with NOAH and developed much of my style there. I learned from and tallied matches with Japanese legends like Misawa himself, Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama. I was also afforded the opportunity to develop alongside my Japanese peers like Hideo Itami, Atsushi Aoki and Naomichi Marufuji. In 2014, I left NOAH with their blessing to pursue a career with New Japan Pro Wrestling. There is no question in my mind that this is the place where I truly rounded out my skillset. I cannot thank [New Japan matchmaker] Gedo enough for the opportunity he gave me when I was invited there to compete. I shared the New Japan ring with a living legend in Jushin “Thunder” Liger, UFC Hall of Famer Kazushi Sakuraba, Yuji Nagata, Shinsuke Nakamura and Hiroshi Tanahashi. The list is endless, and I am forever grateful. I am a better wrestler because of my time with New Japan Pro Wrestling.”
