Edge and Christian open today’s show by speaking about ‘Woken’ Matt Hardy’s arrival in WWE. Christian calls Hardy’s development of this character “genius”, and points out that this character is unlike any other thing in WWE right now. He also says that the beauty of a character like this is you can basically do anything you want and get away with it because the character is so crazy.

Edge agrees with Christian’s points and adds that like most people, it took him a while to understand fully what was happening when TNA began teasing this character over a year ago. He quickly realized just how incredible Hardy’s imagination is, and he began to see how spectacular this creation was.

Christian mentions that it’s great to see Matt get his time in the sun as a singles competitor, after Jeff seemed to have the more successful singles run in WWE and TNA over the years. Edge points out that Jeff has the “thing” that very few people have. Matt had to adapt and use his incredible imagination to keep himself relevant and he’s done that time and time again over the last two decades.

Lawler is joined on today’s show by his co-host Glenn Moore.

Moore opens today’s show by mentioning that HBO is preparing to release an Andre the Giant documentary. Lawler knew that already because HBO actually came to his house and his bar in Memphis and he filmed a bunch of material that might be used on that documentary. Just from talking to the filmmakers, Lawler is sure that this is going to be a very good film and he’s really looking forward to watching it.

Moore mentions that Lawler was never a big partier, and he’d often drive home alone late at night after his matches were completed. Lawler confirms that, and says he’d always listen to the Cleveland Indians game on the radio on his drives home and he actually credits that with keeping him alive over the years. Some of those late night trips were over 200 miles, and he mentions that he probably would have fallen asleep on multiple occasions if it weren’t for the company of the Indians game.

Lawler says he was shocked to hear that Jim Johnston was released by WWE this past week. He says that Johnston has been invaluable to WWE over the years and has composed the themes of Superstars such as The Undertaker, Kane, Mankind and plenty more. Lawler thinks WWE is going to miss Johnston and agrees with Moore that Johnson deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

He adds that if WWE inducts Johnston into the Hall of Fame they should think about inducting Jimmy Hart as well because when WWE started using music, Hart actually came up with most of the original themes including Shawn Michaels’ theme.

Roman Reigns recently appeared as a guest on CBS Sports’ “In This Corner” podcast. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Zipper malfunction at RAW and John Cena taking advantage of the situation: “The funny thing is, my zipper literally broke like two minutes before I was walking out. Usually I do a last-minute check. Do I have boogers in my nose? Any like weird hair conditioner on my ears? Is my zipper up? I kind of push and normally you’ll check your zipper to make sure the teeth are right in place. I actually pushed right through it. The actual zipper handle popped off, and once that happens, you have to go out there in two minutes. It’s not like I’m just wearing trunks or something. I’ve got blousing straps at the bottom, and I would have to take everything off in order to get new pants on. John being John, if anything presents itself, which I feel is fair game if it’s there to take it, and he did,” Reigns said. “Luckily, that’s one thing of just over the years going back and forth in locker rooms, I have a quick rebuttal with little things like that. It was just something that, thank God I was ready for it, but really he shocked me in bringing up. I thought I had it closed up the whole time but apparently not. I was peaking at him, I guess.”

Relationship with John Cena: “I’ll be completely honest: Me and John have always been cordial, but I would not say we are close friends by any means. There is a business respect, but I think that’s what makes this so special that we’re truly competing against each other and I think people see that. But it’s not like a situation where I’m taking anything he says to heart because I don’t really care what he thinks about me. If you care for someone and they knife you, it’s going to hurt. It will hurt your feelings and can depress you. But when you don’t really care about somebody or their opinion, it doesn’t affect you. And that’s how it is with me and John.”

Improving his skills on the microphone during his feud with Cena: “It was nice to be able to change gears and get better at something. I think I’ve definitely gotten better on the stick working with John. I have to give him credit for that. Like he said in one of his opening promos, you either step up or you step aside.”

While speaking to the Off The Board podcast, Roman Reigns was asked if he believes a match against John Cena will eventually take place. Reigns would reveal that he believes it would and explained why.

“I think so. If you’re here for the right reasons — and this doesn’t just go for wrestling, this is anything, this is what drives our world — you wanna be in there with the best,” said Reigns.

“To say John Cena is not one of the best of all time is asinine. He is. He’s a 16-time heavyweight champion. There’s only two men in the whole world that can say that. So to be able to share the ring with him, to do a big fight with John Cena, I’m all for that.”

He continued, “I came here for a reason. I didn’t come here to blend in. I came here to stick out and that’s what I’ve done. I’m not gonna back down to anybody I said this a long time ago: I don’t care who’s at the top. I’m stepping up. I think I’ve proved that over the years. I think, what a great way to honor both of our careers and what we’re trying to do and the way we try to drive this train. What better way to do it than in the ring, one on one.”

Gail Kim recently did an interview with Kevin Eck of Pressbox Online. Here are a couple of highlights from the interview:

Tell me about the nature of your back injury and how you’re feeling now.

“My back was injured just basically from wear and tear over the years. Luckily, Impact has been so good to me in terms of letting me take time off to make sure I’m healthy and never making me feel bad about it. I’ve been ready to come back for a little while but [Impact Wrestling] has had some time off because we film a bunch of shows once a month or once every other month, so that’s the only reason why I haven’t been back in the ring, but I’m going to be back shortly.”

You’re not under contract with at Impact at the moment, correct?

“Technically, no, but I have a contract in hand. I won’t ever go anywhere else. That’s my family.”

Have you given thought to how much longer you’d like to wrestle?

“Those questions have popped in my head. We kind of incorporated it into the storyline, and I guess we teased [retirement]. People really thought I retired because we never really continued it or explained it; I just really got injured and never came back, so people assumed I was retired. I said, “No, you will know when I’m retired. I wouldn’t go away that quietly.”
