While speaking with WWE.com, Chad Lail (the former Gunner) talked about his time at the WWE Performance Center and more. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Time at the Performance Center so far: “Honestly, WWE is where I wanted to be since day one. I had my tryout two years ago and finally got a chance to get down here and learn from all the coaches. We’ve got so much knowledge right here in this building, between Head Coach [Matt] Bloom, Coach Norman [Smiley], Coach [Robbie] Brookside, and all the people here. With me being a little bit older than some of the people here and having been in sports-entertainment for 15 years now, it’s a great opportunity to really learn the WWE way and be where I want to be. I’ve been a part of a lot of teams, playing sports in high school and obviously being in the Marine Corps, but there’s nothing I’ve ever been a part of like at the Performance Center.”

Military background: “I was in the United States Marine Corps from 2002 to 2006. It was probably the best decision I ever made in my life. I was a motor transport operator by job title, but a lot of the times what I would do overseas was called the “ring mount.” That’s the guy on the top of the truck operating any type of weapon that may be on top of the truck. I have a family history of being in the military. My dad was in the Army, uncles are Army and Navy, and there were only two other Marines in my family. I told myself that if I was going to go into the military, in my eyes, the Marines had the toughest training. It was definitely the toughest thing I ever went through in my life.”

Independent scene: “Once I got out of the Marine Corps in 2006, I started with a promotion called NWA: Anarchy. It used to be called NWA: Wildside, and that’s where guys like AJ Styles performed. That was definitely a big point in my career, as I started learning from and competing against better talent. I started traveling with the NWA. I held their national title for two years, and began traveling out of the country as well. From about 2006 through 2009, I was really busy with the NWA, and that’s around the time I met Terry Taylor. He helped me get my foot in the door with other promotions that helped me build a name. In 2015, I left another company and had kept in good contact with guys like Dash Wilder and Edge, and they put me in touch with William Regal. Mr. Regal got me a tryout in 2015, and I think he just wanted to get a look at me because he heard from Edge that, “Hey, you might want to take a look at this guy.” Edge helped me out.”

Long-term WWE goals: “I guess the child in me says WrestleMania. That’s my ultimate goal. During that two-year wait when I wasn’t with WWE, I had opportunities where people would come up and ask me, “WrestleMania’s in Orlando, do you wanna go?” I’m stubborn. I’d say, “Nah, man.” I always said I’d never go to WrestleMania unless I was part of WrestleMania, and I’ve stuck to that.”

Billy Corgan is fully in control of the NWA as of today, and he has some definite ideas on how things are going to go from here on out. In a recent interview, he talked about his past frustrations working with TNA.

“I was very, very frustrated by the obstacles I faced internally, both culturally and fiscally, at TNA. I dealt with a lot of backstabbing and lies. I was able to push through some things that ended up being successful at TNA, and I was very frustrated because you would think the success would have led to more leverage and further opportunities. But it was exactly the opposite. People were out to get me because I had power. At least now, in this situation, I am my own boss. You have to build your own infrastructure from the bottom up and work with people you really trust. The traditional ‘carny’ aspect of the wrestling business that plagues a lot of companies, and has plagued a company like TNA, are problems that hold the business back. You can’t run an effective business if it’s like Game of Thrones every week.”

He also talked about the possibilities of working with Anthem and Impact Wrestling in the future.

“We’ve made various overtures to Anthem along the way and they’ve made various overtures to me. We haven’t found anything that is ideal, and I’m a firm believer that if a deal doesn’t go both ways, then it’s not a good deal to make. If the NWA was going to be involved in some level with Anthem, we’d want it to be a good way all the way around. We made a very aggressive offer in the last month to go in and help reboot the company. We’d have helped Impact stay more in the lane of the traditional Impact brand, and then set up the NWA as a natural rival, a la Raw versus SmackDown. Unfortunately, we didn’t get where we wanted with that offer.”

And, it looks like he’s in it for the long haul with the NWA.

“We want to be part of a new revolution of how wrestling can be consumed by fans and matches can be presented. This NWA brand dates back to 1948. The past few years have not been as kind as we would have liked, but we plan on building this into a powerhouse over time. Our focus is on the NWA plan, and we have a 20-year plan. We’re not going to just come in and throw money around for two years. We’ve learned from the past mistakes of TNA, which we have intimate knowledge of. We’re armed with this knowledge, and we’re setting out to rebuild the brand so a fan that currently doesn’t know anything about the NWA will respect the tradition and also respect what we’re trying to accomplish, like a Ring of Honor or a New Japan. That’s where we are starting, and we’re building from there.”

NWA Ownership Updates

It looks like the transfer of ownership of the NWA is almost official. It’s being reported that Billy Corgan will officially take over the reigns of the organization on October 1st.

Going forward, all of the member promotions who have licenses to use the NWA branding will have those licenses expire on September 30th. Also, the NWA On Demand streaming service will be shutting down. Corgan purchased R. Bruce Tharpe’s interest in the Paul Boesch Houston library, and even though the ownership of the library will remain with the Boesch family, Corgan will have the power to control it going forward.

Daryl Takahashi Breaks His Silence

Currently on a sabbatical in the UK after his recent harrowing experiences in NJPW, Daryl Takahashi, the most beloved stuffed cat in all of pro wrestling history, recently sat down to give his thoughts on his near-death experience at the hands of Bad Luck Fale and much more.

On his feelings about Los Ingobernables de Japon:

I llike LIJ. We are all strange. NAITO Strange, but nice. HIROMU strange, but love me. BUSHI very, very strange, but is kind. SANADA strange, but secretly like me. EVIL is strange, but he stay away from me. I am scared of EVIL. They all feed me good food, except EVIL. I think he jealous of my soft kitty body and pretty face.

How he and Hiromu met:

Ahhhhh. I meet Hiromu in most special way. I was once homeless kitty who live on streets of Osaka. Hiromu find me eating old udon out of trash and pick me up. Nobody picked me up because I was so dirty and smelly. Hiromu rescue me and promise to make Puroresu superstar. He change my life forever and feed me fresh udon. Also watermelon.

His feelings on The Bullet Club:

YOU DARE ASK ABOUT BAD LUCK FALE AND BULLY CLUB?! I HATE CHUBBY FALE AND HIS STUPID HEAD TATTOO RACING STRIPE! ALL OF BULLY CLUB IS JOKE ME AND HIROMU LAUGH ALL NIGHT LONG AT THEM!! I hate Club and Fale and they will be dead soon.

Club is after me and LIJ because they know we better and make more money than them! They are no longer champion sales in New Japan Pro Wrestling!! Plus, we all have bigger private parts than all of stupid Club.

His feelings on Fale and The Young Bucks:

Who I hate more, Bucks or Fale?? Bucks are pretty, but they just hurt my neck and tell me to suck it. FALE RIP MY WHOLE BODY IN HALF THROW ME IN THE AIR AND STOMP ME INTO NAITO BACK!! I WANT TO DO PEE PEE IN FALE BEARD! I WIPE MY BOTTOM ON HIS GLASSES!!

Opening a can of whoop ass on Kenny Omega:

Kenny, Kenny, Kenny. Hmmmm. He challenge me to match? But I ask how his knee really is? I only want a match when he is ready… and when he is ready I WILL EMBARRASS HIM IN FRONT OF JAPAN AND ALL THE WORLD! MR. GLOBAL STAR WILL FALL TO THE DARYL CLUB!

What the future holds:

The rest of year for me and LIJ is bright and long. We will eat all the foods together and win all championships together. Hiromu will bring home belt-San again so I have nice shiny pillow. Also at WRESTLE KINGDOM, NAITO BECOME CHAMPION OF THE WORLD. Hopefully EVIL will be nicer too.

Billy Corgan is the proud new owner of a wrestling “organization”. As we reported earlier this month, Corgan and the National Wrestling Alliance were close to finalizing a deal for Corgan to purchase the organization. It’s being reported now that Corgan has completed the deal to obtain the NWA from R. Bruce Tharpe.

In the deal, Corgan will get ownership of the following NWA assets:

• NWA name
• NWA rights & trademarks
• Possession of the NWA Championship belt

The deal has also been configured for Corgan to take Tharpe’s position in the NWA’s VOD service, as well as the Paul Boesch wrestling library. The ownership of the library will remain with with Boesch family, but Corgan will now have the same rights that Tharpe previously held.

Tharpe’s five-year ownership of the organization will come to an end with Corgan’s purchase, and there is no real clear answer to what role, if any, Tharpe will have going forward. It’s expected that Corgan and his team will look into all aspects of the organization, but no major changes will be made immediately. The deal is being looked at as something with a long-term goal, so no one should expect any overnight overhauls.

It’s also being reported that the NWA and promoters who are licensing the name will continue on with doing things how they have been until any changes are handed down by the new owner.
