PWInsider reports that the word going around the locker room was that Luke Harper flew back to the US after Thursday’s WWE Live Event in Lima, Peru. It’s unknown at this time exactly why he left.

Eric Rowan ended up teaming with Mojo Rawley at Saturday’s WWE Live Event in Mexico Saturday night. Here is footage from that match.

It was reported earlier in the week that WWE decided to shorten Luke Harper & “Erick Rowan’s names to simply “Harper” & “Rowan” moving forward.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon decided on this change because he believes that by going with just their last names, the team as heels comes across as being more “dominant.”

Meltzer wrote, “Harper & Rowan (who have had their first names taken away, Vince believes that just the last name alone makes them come across as more “dominant,” as heels.”

We reported a while back via Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer that Luke Harper and Erick Rowan haven’t been used on weekly WWE television because creative hasn’t came up with anything for them to do yet. It now appears that Harper may be repackaged completely.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet indicated on Twitter that he has heard talks about possibly repackaging Harper. He sent out the following tweet:

Dave Meltzer mentioned in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that it is very possible that Primo and Epico could be revealed as the individuals who have been attacking Breezango.

Primo, who has been out of action since June due to a knee injury is expected to be back imminently. WWE has kept Epico off television although he has been working WWE Live Events regularly.

Meltzer reported that the original plan was for Erick Rowan & Luke Harper to be revealed as the attackers as those two have not been used on television either.

As previously reported, Rowan hasn’t been used on WWE television because the company doesn’t have anything for him right now. While Rowan has been working some live events this summer, his last match on television was back on July 4th. Rowan & Luke Harper were originally set to return as the individuals behind the attacks on The Fashion Police, however those plans may have been nixed.

During the mailbag segment of today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about the whereabouts of Maria and Mike Kanellis and if there was any resentment from peers because they skipped going to NXT when they arrived to the company.

Meltzer indicated that the company has given up on the couple but doesn’t know exactly why. When Bryan Alvarez asked, “Where is the guy?”,  Meltzer responded, “I don’t know…. I don’t know, it appears that they have gave up on them.”

Meltzer would then point out there are a lot of guys on the SmackDown roster that they have given up on. “Luke Harper, Erick Rowan;  hopefully they’ll do something with those guys,” said Meltzer.

Daniel Bryan spoke to Fox Sports very recently. There he gave his two cents on the state of Luke Harper on SmackDown Live right now. Bryan admitted that the former Wyatt Family member is indeed being “wasted” on the blue brand.

Here are Bryan’s thoughts on Harper:

“I think that he is somebody that we can utilize better. When he left the Wyatt Family, I thought the fans were really starting to get behind him. And his match with Randy Orton, gosh, I loved his match with Randy Orton.”

The former 3-time World Champion didn’t stop singing Harper’s praise here, as he continued:

“Every time you see him, he’s dynamic. The crowd gets behind him, and then you just kind of lose him on TV, where we don’t really see him much. I think we’re really losing out on that.”

These last few weeks on Smackdown, there’s been a noticeable lack of superstars on the show. I’m not even referring to American Alpha.

“We used to be your tag team champions!”

You’d think that with the Money in the Bank ladder match coming up, the blue brand would want to use that match to help build up some of their lower players. There’s no reason that Tye Dillinger, Luke Harper, or even Aiden English shouldn’t be in the match. Even if management didn’t want them there, at least have qualifying matches and have those guys lose. As much as I hate to say it, Smackdown’s been recycling matches ever since Backlash. Some variation of the 6 men in the ladder match will fight, they’ll tag against each other, etc. Quite a few people have been missing action, and it’s a shame, because the roster is so talented right now.

The United States Championship Is on Lock Right Now

Did you know that Luke Harper and Tye Dillinger won their matches at Backlash? Crazy, right? What are they up to now? Nothing, that’s what. They could have very easily been put into a program for the United States Championship. You know, the title that’s meant for the midcard guys? Instead, Kevin Owens is in the ladder match, and the title will not be defended at all this Sunday.

After Money in the Bank, I’m sure Shinsuke Nakamura will go on to take the title from Mr. Kevin Owens. I don’t mind that. I’m cool with that. However, it is highly unlikely that Nakamura will spend his time defending the title against Erick Rowan or Aiden English. It’s not happening.

They don’t have to win the title. I get that. Not everyone can be a champion. But give the guys some exposure. Rusev defended the title against Kalisto, Zack Ryder, and Titus O’Neil. John Cena fought the likes of Stardust and Neville for the US title. The point is, these guys who aren’t being used need a purpose.

Create Engaging Feuds For Them

Tye Dillinger had something interesting going on with Aiden English. Dillinger would beat him, and English would cry. English would also sing a lot and Dillinger would interrupt and kick him in the face. That was something.

Erick Rowan was angry at Luke Harper for leaving the family. He had a whole bunch of masks, and it was sort of cool. That was something.

After Backlash, what happened to Luke Harper and Erick Rowan? Absolutely nothing. What happened to Tye Dillinger and Aiden English? Absolutely nothing. Apparently they’re trying to start a program between Luke Harper and Aiden English. But how is someone supposed to know that if it isn’t even televised?

One of the best parts of Smackdown last year was the fact that almost everyone had something to do. Heath Slater got a job. The Usos became thugs. Kalisto wanted to fight Baron Corbin. When Raw was struggling to use more than 5 people per show, Smackdown had something for everyone. Sure, the roster was thinner, but even with the current roster  you should still be able to create engaging stories for everyone. Heck, that’s what Raw is doing right now. Who attacked Enzo? Who will join the Titus Brand? Even Goldust and R-Truth are battling each other via film quotes and vignettes.

Please, Smackdown. Make better use of your roster. It’s too talented to waste.

#1 Contenders Match: AJ Styles defeated Luke Harper

This was a controversial match where Luke Harper got pinned twice by AJ Styles. The first time after AJ hit Harper with a phenomenal forearm but Harper’s foot was on the rope & the ref didn’t see it. The match was restarted by Shane Mcmahon. The second time, Luke hits Shane with a kick accidentally & AJ takes advantage of it, pushes Harper into the ring pole outside & hits a 450 splash for a three count.

2 of 3 Falls Match: Becky Lynch defeated Mickie James

Dasha Fuentes is backstage with Alexa Bliss to ask about interfering in the last match. Bliss ends up dissing Dasha before Natalya walks up. The segment ends with Natalya threatening to take the title.

Editor’s View:

This show again proved why Smackdown Live is the A show on WWE television. The controversial ending to AJ Styles & Luke Harper match keeps the windows open for another opportunity for Harper to main event Wrestlemania as the rumors of AJ Styles vs Shane Mcmahon are coming into reality. WWE Women’s championship seems to be having an altogether new rivalry with the inclusion of Natalya into the frame. Mickie James & Becky Lynch seems to be doing just fine. Miz & Maryse are the most awesome couple of the current generation. The only guy who needs a total makeover & is a downside on SD Live is Dolph Ziggler. His rivalry with Apollo Crews is leading us to nowhere. Really wish something great could have happened with him after he superkicked Jerry “The King” lawler. Also, Dean Ambrose & Corbin is building up the future of WWE. All in all a GLORIOUS show of SD Live which is directly opposite to what we see on Monday Nights. & YES I have no problems with the tag teams being missing from the show. give them a rest if you have nothing to do with them.

WWE took a little time to decide the next obvious thing, & it was announced on Talking Smack that there is going to be a #1 contender’s match on Smackdown Live next week between Luke Harper & AJ Styles. This could come as another way by Smackdown’s creative team to one-up against RAW by keeping their audience engaged for every upcoming week.

Also on #SDLive the seeds were sown for John Cena & Nikki Bella vs The Miz & Maryse at Wrestlemania 33 when Natalya forced Nikki into Maryse accidentally & Maryse afterwards attacked Nikki with a pipe and hit Nikki with it several times before being dragged off by The Miz—allowing Natalya to record the pinfall.

The Miz also after being eliminated by John Cena came back from the crowd to eliminate the 16 time world champ providing fuel to fire & NEXT WEEK on SDLive we have the return of Miz TV & the special guest is none other than John Cena.

Alexa bliss defeated Becky Lynch to regain the gold.

Also the feud between Dean Ambrose (IC Champion) & Baron Corbin was heated up when Dean Ambrose eliminated Baron Corbin & Corbin just like Elimination Chamber got the better of Dean after being eliminated & destroyed him.
