WWE announced that Daniel Bryan will address the state of the Cruiserweight Championship in the opening of tonight’s episode of 205 Live. Here is what they wrote on their website regarding tonight’s show:

“With questions surrounding the status of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and rumors circulating about a potential General Manager for WWE 205 Live, SmackDown LIVE GM Daniel Bryan has been asked to address these issues on behalf of WWE to kick off tonight’s episode of WWE 205 Live.

Among the topics Bryan may address is the status of the WWE Cruiserweight Title. Will Cedric Alexander still have his long-awaited opportunity to claim it at Royal Rumble? Furthermore, what would the possible addition of a General Manager mean for the future of the Cruiserweight division? And is there someone lined up for the position?”

Taz is joined on today’s show by his co-host, Seth.

Taz opens today’s show by speaking about last night’s 25th Anniversary episode of RAW. He points out that The Manhattan Center crowd had to deal with long breaks between in-ring action, and this resulted in the live audience getting very agitated. Most fans paid hundreds of dollars to be live at The Manhattan Center, and he thinks WWE failed to book this event properly.

Seth says that the Undertaker promo was very open-ended and it didn’t really impress him. He would have preferred seeing Undertaker get physical with a full-time talent. Taz points out that WWE prostitutes their younger talent to the aging veterans enough as it is, so Undertaker cutting a promo was not a bad idea in his mind. He also adds that Undertaker may not have been physically able to have an in-ring confrontation.

Taz believes that Randy Orton definitely should have been on this show and Orton’s wife obviously agreed, since she sent out a social media post yesterday saying so. Taz informs that he wasn’t invited back for this show, and he adds that he’s too critical of WWE’s current product to be invited back for this type of show.

He informs that he was present backstage at a recent commemorative episode of Smackdown, and they didn’t even use him on camera then when he was live in the building. He adds that he’s almost happy that he wasn’t invited to this show because they would have had him walking backstage with a towel over his head or playing poker with the APA. He wouldn’t have been interested in anything like that, especially if they weren’t going to pay him.

Destiny Wrestling announced that WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne will face the newly crowned Impact Wrestling World Champion Austin Aries at an upcoming event.

The Canadian promotion wrote the following on Twitter regarding the match: “History will be made as the NEW @IMPACTWRESTLING champion @AustinAries takes on current Destiny & WWE Uk Champion @PeteDunneYxB for the first time EVER! 2 worlds will collide for the biggest indy match in the world already in 2018 LIVE in Toronto next Sun Jan 21 @BattleArtsMMA”

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane and Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno).

Russo and Gilbertti open today’s show by discussing WWE’s decision to run RAW live on Christmas Day. Russo is still angry over the fact that WWE made their employees leave their families at Christmas in order to work a wrestling show, but Gilbertti doesn’t have a problem with it at all. Russo points out that if Gilbertti had a wife and kids he might think differently.

Lane points out that the live attendance for the show was great and ratings for the show were roughly the same as the week prior, with around 2.7 Million people tuning in. This doesn’t surprise Russo because he mentions that those 2.7 million people are the marks who watch every single week, whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, or Halloween.

Gilbertti speaks about Hideo Itami kneeing Brin Kendrick in the face this past week, resulting in severe injuries. He doesn’t think it’s necessary to utilize moves like this in the business anymore, and he thinks the wrestling world is turning a bling eye to how reckless the in-ring action has become. He adds that a move like Itami’s ‘GTS’ has to be executed perfectly every single time or it can have disastrous results.

The Miz is being advertised for next week’s episode of RAW from the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI. The Miz has been off WWE television filming the next installment of The Marine alongside Becky Lynch and Shawn Michaels. Michaels mentioned back on December 2nd that there would be three weeks of filming, which would put his return at next week.

According to PWInsider, WWE has been contacting former Superstars and personalities to film video messages for the upcoming RAW 25th Anniversary show. The company expects to either use these during the live broadcast or use them for promotional material for the event.

As previously noted, WWE is considering this show a “all-hands-on-deck” show, and they are bringing in many names for the show. The Undertaker is one of the big names being advertised for the January 22nd event, which will be simulcasted from The Manhattan Center and The Barclays Center in New York City.

X-Pac opens today’s show by commenting on the news that Jack Swagger has signed a multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA. X-Pac says that Swagger is a legitimate bad ass, and he thinks this is a better signing for Bellator than Ryback would have been, just based on the fact that Swagger was a star in the collegiate wrestling scene.

X-Pac mentions that according to reports, Neville might not be finished with WWE after all. Apparently Neville was frustrated with WWE denying his requests to work on side projects so he walked out. X-Pac says that Neville has to make a tough call now because money isn’t everything, and your happiness and sanity is more important. The door might be open for Neville to return to WWE but he obviously hasn’t been happy there for a while, so this is a big decision for him.

X-Pac believes that Jinder Mahal dropping the WWE Title to A.J. Styles on Smackdown Live last week has made a big difference for the live events in India. X-Pac thought that Mahal would be chasing the WWE Title in India, battling A.J. Styles at the live events. That isn’t the case but WWE still has to have him in a high profile match, so competing against Triple H makes sense.
