It’s Wednesday, so that means it’s time for our WWE NXT preview. TakeOver WarGames is just around the corner, and NXT will continue the build to the big show on tonight’s show.

• Kairi Sane will take on Billie Kay.
• Adam Cole and Roderick Strong will face off.
• Andrade Almas and NXT Champion Drew McIntyre will continue their fight over the NXT Title.
• Ember Moon, Lars Sullivan, and The Street Profits in action.

Jim Ross On Jericho vs Omega

Everyone seems to have an opinion on Chris Jericho heading to NJPW to take on Kenny Omega at WrestleKingdom 12 in January. Today, Jim Ross chimed in with his thoughts on the big match.

“Just my take, but how any of us can complain about Jericho vs. Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January of 2018 is a head scratcher. It was excellent booking, creative, and the two Winnipeg natives will rock the Tokyo Dome and sell tickets. This is the best way for them to monetize this window of opportunity, without question. It’s been a long time since the Dome went clean on January 4 and this match should certainly help regarding that matter. I read where the NJPW goals was to sell 30,000 for Wrestle Kingdom 12, which is a tremendous number, but the Dome’s capacity for baseball is 55,000 and obviously a bit more for wrestling.”

Jim Ross Reflects On His WWE Release

As we all remember, Jim Ross was fired from WWE several years ago due to issues with Ric Flair during a panel back in 2013. During a recent interview promoting his new book, JR talked about his interactions with Vince McMahon during that time and after his release.

Even when Vince let me go on September 11th, 2013, I got let go and we did that about five minutes and then we spent half hour shooting the breeze. Not a raised voice, not a curse word, nothing. I knew that he had to do what he had to do, and I knew that I had made an error judgement, but I knew that my drinking scenario had been misreported. I put myself in that position and I am a big boy and took it like a man. I walked out with my head held high, he gave me a big hug. We were never separated; Vince and I would text each other off and on the entire time I wasn’t working there.

Becky Lynch On Survivor Series & Opportunities On SmackDown Live

During a recent interview promoting WWE’s current European Tour, Becky Lynch spoke about being the captain of the blue brand’s Women’s Team and the opportunities she’s gotten on SmackDown Live.

“When I was the first Women’s Champion for SmackDown Live, it was a great source of joy and pride for me. It was my mission to make sure it was the better brand and that it had very engaging storylines and that people would get invested in whatever was going on. I wanted them to really care about the women we have on SmackDown Live – and of course the men.

“At Survivor Series last year we got the opportunity to showcase that, we really did, and we had that feeling that the fans were behind us. Maybe sometimes it seems like we’re not getting as many opportunities as they get on Raw so the fans root behind that – they feel sympathetic towards that.”

Ruby Riot On Making It To WWE

In a recent interview, NXT star Ruby Riot talked about how her unique look helped her get signed by WWE.

“I would like to think so. There isn’t another female superstar on the roster who looks anything like me, that moves like me, and I think that definitely helps me in the long run. I would like to think that will help me with the NXT Universe as well, because of something new and fresh and exciting and not in the mold of the norm of what they’ve seen prior to this.”

She also explained the meaning behind her name.

“The name Ruby Riot was very much inspired by my punk rock background. There is a song by Rancid that is inspired by a Ruby name. Riot, obviously, when you think of punk rockers, mosh pits, riots, everything like that.”

Jim Ross On His Favorite Recent Matches

Jim Ross, whose autobiography Slobberknocker: My Life In Wrestling was released last week, has been doing the media rounds to promote the book’s release. In a recent interview, he was asked about his favorite matches that he’s seen recently.

“There’s so many things that go into matches that make me like them. Obviously, calling Undertaker and Roman Reigns on a grand stage like WrestleMania— there’s nothing even close to that. But I’ve also called three of the [Kazuchika] Okada-[Kenny] Omega matches. I called Omega in Long Beach when he won the U.S. title for New Japan. The live stuff will always trump going into a studio to do voice-overs.”

It’s no secret that Jim Ross has taken a lot of heat and criticism for his many issues calling the action during last weekend’s NJPW US G1 Special. There are many rumors floating around on what actually caused the issues, but during an appearance on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling (which will be released in its entirety tomorrow), Ross responded to the critics, basically blaming the issue on working live television.

“It is a real ambitious undertaking for the AXS TV folks who do do MMA 40 days a year (40 weeks a year on Friday night) or something like that but they had never done pro wrestling. So we had a brand new crew that had no and most essentially no experience whatsoever in pro wrestling. I thought that we rallied together and came through with an excellent effort, the desire and the will to be good was there. I had some flub ups and was asking which one is Jay (of The Briscoe Brothers) and which one is which and God almighty the guy we asked was one of the ringside guys and Josh Barnett and I said which one is which and one of the guys said: “Well, ( I can’t remember Mark or Jay) doesn’t have any front teeth.” I said (okay) that doesn’t help me unless you are going to be shooting their smile, give me something. I got hammered on social media because I made that mistake and people forget that we are human and we are doing a live television show.”

“I wish we did not have those errors but I can tell you this. When I saw the Briscoes on Sunday I apologized to both of them for screwing that up and I took complete responsibility for it even though I got bad information (you know) I own it. It is my deal and so I apologized to those guys because I have great respect for their work and I always have so I wish we had not done that. I don’t live this product. Kevin Kelly and Don Callus are there, they live it all the time and they were there in the building doing some stuff but I think that people will see that our second show was much more cleaner and much smoother than was our first show. Of course the second show also was highlighted by the United States title tournament but I thought that the final match with Omega and Ishii was absolutely tremendous. The Young Bucks had a real good match on that second night with Roppongi Vice and it ended up being Roppongi Vice’s apparent last match as a team. I was very and really happy that I had the chance to do two live shows and not in voice overs but actually sitting in the arena, sitting at ringside and being able to do what I enjoy doing more than anything or any other phase of the wrestling business and that is do live commentary.”

Whether Ross’ response appeases the masses or not doesn’t matter to me. I was so turned off by the English commentary that I switched to NJPW World during intermission. He and Barnett were ruining the show for me. Just one person’s opinion…

Jim Ross has taken to Twitter to respond to the criticisms he and Josh Barnett attracted over their commentary for New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s (NJPW) G1 Special in USA last weekend.

During the two-night NJPW special from Long Beach, California, Ross and Barnett led the English-language commentary on AXS TV and NJPW World, but mistakes such as calling numerous wrestlers by the wrong name (such as Zack Sabre Jr being called Will Ospreay) and not knowing wrestlers’ finishing moves led to viewers asking how a legend like Ross, who has been working with NJPW for a good while now, could fumble so badly.

Viewers took to Twitter to acknowledge the mistakes, and Ross responded to the errors.

But for every critique, there was also praise for Ross and Barnett for leading nearly 10 hours of NJPW programming.

NJPW’s G1 Special in USA was still considered a success, despite some of the issues with commentary. We saw Kenny Omega crowned the first IWGP United States Champion and Kazuchika Okada retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Cody.

Ross is scheduled to return to the WWE commentary table with fellow Hall of Famer Lita for the first-ever Mae Young Classic Women’s Tournament. The tournament will air on the WWE Network starting August 28.

Good Ol’ JR listed out a number of dream matches that he’d like to see today. While talking about it, he revealed who he thinks is going to be the best opponent for Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar is scheduled to face the winner of the Fatal 5-way match between Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns and Finn Balor. However, J.R didn’t have any of the aforementioned superstars in his mind as the ideal opponent for the Beast Incarnate.

Ross said the following (quoted by Inquistr.com):

“I’m a different cat though, man. I’d like to see Braun Strowman – in a big build-up – against [Brock] Lesnar. I think that’d be a nice car crash.”

The good news is that rumours of Strowman vs Lesnar going down at SummerSlam have surfaced recently. This means that Ross and the fans are in for a treat.

First Match For WWE Extreme Rules Announced

WWE has announced the first match for the upcoming RAW exclusive Extreme Rules PPV. It looks like Matt and Jeff Hardy will be defending their RAW Tag Team Titles against #1 Contenders Sheamus and Cesaro at the event on June 4th at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

Also announced in this video is Jeff’s match with Sheamus on tonight’s RAW…and that will be a No Disqualification match. No stipulations have been announced for the title match at Extreme Rules, but with The Hardys involved, I fully expect this to turn into some sort of Ladder Match.

Jim Ross Calling A Match At NXT TakeOver: Chicago

Jim Ross’ duties with WWE since returning at WrestleMania just seem to grow every week. As we reported last week, Ross and Nigel McGuinness were announced as the commentators for the upcoming UK Live Specials that will air on WWE Network later this week, and today, Ross announced on Twitter that he and McGuinness will be calling the action for the UK Championship match between Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne at Saturday’s NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

I am going to make an educated guess here and say that when and if the company every gets the rumored weekly UK series off the ground, Ross and McGuinness will be the voices of the show.

It was announced by Triple H on Twitter that Kurt Angle is going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year:

WWE Hall of Famer ”JR” Jim Ross was asked on Twitter about the possibility of inducting Kurt Angle into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2017. JR mentioned that he will be open to do it if asked, but also noted that it is a long shot.

It will be who @WWE prefers and with who @RealKurtAngle is pleased.

The 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist is a TNA Hall of Famer, now he’ll be rightfully enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame this year.

Rusev has portrayed the anti-American persona on WWE TV since his debut, with rivalries against the likes of John Cena, Roman Reigns and Jack Swagger.

Kurt Angle is an Olympic Gold Medalist, former WWE Champion, former World Heavyweight Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and King of the Ring.

Kurt Angle will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the night before WrestleMania, and Rusev is not locked up in a fued against anyone at the moment, so, this banter could set up a possible match between the two superstars at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania 33.

Former TNA Star Jesse Neal has announced his retirement on In Your Face Wrestling Show on 29 August. He’s married to a Indie star Brittany Savage, Jesse started to cut back at his indie bookings when his daughter was born last year.

Fox have reportedly started working on a Pro Wrestling drama series, the Project seems to under development on Script revisions right now.
